Matt: do the Brixton thing. I cant make it, but good luck in Switzerland. Clingfilm will be there. They are going to love your boards. Did you pack brown socks?
Everyone else: Crystal Palace Sunday? I'll be bringing returning hero Martin Drayton, and he wants to skate. We'll set up some courses, and in honour of Clingfilm being in Switzerland we will set courses that everyone can make...not just him!

I have check two hotels in Tonbridge. There is a good Premier Lodge at £49 per room with a good tudor pub next to it. For more info go to: www.premierlodge.com There is also a tudor Inn at £78 for a single room and Twimns for £49 per person. These I can easily take you to the circuit. There are cheaper in Tunbridge Wells if needed. There is also a camp site in Tonbridge if you want to camp.
Saturday Night
If there are enough people who want to come to Tonbridge I will arrange a good Pub, although the Premier Lodge on is very good, and does food. If not I will check out pubs in Eynsford and around Brands. Let me know what you want to do.

Are there any keen hill carvers / bombers in Kent in the Sevenoaks - Maidstone areas? I've been riding hills & searching for good deserted roads with my 10yr old son for ages and we've never yet seen anyone else out on a longboard??

chris its all true and i wish we could have had you up here when it was all going down....alas poor mikey was all by himself one dark night when tired of chasing hoolies around town decided to aggravate yours truly...the next round of the battle is to try and get a skatepark nearer to the town center as "warped" is currently nestled amongst industrial units and an area even a shaolin master like me would think twice about skating through yet alone a six stone grom....the council have worked a well tricky move here and to all intents and purposes feel vilified...i'm going to see how much support i can get and go trouble the council again.

All public servants love an easy life and not having to question their policies. If you kick up enough stink they will bend over. Watch out what they do as they are sneeky. Petitions, regular phone calls, e-terrorism and publicity drive them mad. However you may not have the public on your side, but if they do not complain they are considered to agree. Shoping centres and the like are private property and are not subject to by-laws, on civil ons. Here the owner has to take you to court and the police have to have permission of the owner to enter. They can only really arrest you for damage or disterbing the peace, note it only has to be the peace of the police. If anyone is arrested make constant calls from concerned friends about the welfare of their friend, jam the lines, their'll soon let them out, also go to the person in charge of the police station at that moment, not the arresting officer.
You always have the right to protest and this could be over night. Use travellers laws to protect you. Have a camp out overnight, get the press along. Invite everyone you know, we are always up to close aroad for a free skate.
If you have legal insurance take the council to court over civil liberties and a clarification in the law about what exactly a skateboard is. On private land it is considered thhe same as a pram or a buggy, hence it is difficult to stop you except for another offence.
Good luck and kick arse
Chris

here they are generally really good (cos they've got far more important things to get on with in Sheffield). We all ride with lights and helmets, and usually late at night, on the road. During the day it's not so good, understandably. We get more hassle from crazy car driver vigilantes and taxi drivers. It's a funny mix, some people give lifts and some swear and swerve at you. All drunk people jump in front of you.

i agree chris and it was done about 4-5 years ago when the subject of a new bye law came into the public realm....blah blah blah we got a skatepark out of it with government, police, private cash building warped skatepark...all power to them and us the letter writing does work as does phoning councillors every day (and late at night) etc.....then they sneakily approved the byelaw in closed session about 10.30 at night just weeks after the park had opened, then da police started getting really heavy on anybody skating around the town center.just up the road in telford shropshire the police are the friendliest dudes as are most other areas (big up to the cumbrian penrith police who gave longy and co several lifts back up a gnarly hill in summer 2000)but around here eeeeek.

Hey,
I was wondering if there are any skate shops in Galway Ireland or close to it. Also if there are any good spots to skate in there. O and one final question what is the pigs (Garda as know in Ireland) view on skateboarding - do they take you board away if your skating give you a ticket or something.- thanks, I am going to ireland for 4 weeks this summer and i wanted to figure out if it was worth bringing my longboard.
Thanks ,
-Mick

It is easy to things about prohibitation, but let me give you some ideas to add to your fun. First write a letter, one for all should do, like the statistics below and send it to all of the following, but make sure everyone knows that others have been CC: All councilors, with prority to leasure ones. Your MP The head of the police and hospitals Local radio and TV
Place a copy of the letter under every sign.
Then the fun starts. When the letter has been sent, whenever you and your friends have a spare five minutes, phone a few of them up, at random and see what they are doing about it. Eventially you will get a few quotes of support. Then you send another letter to all parties again quoting them. This embarass the ones you have quotes from and force them to defend their statements. If you want intense fun then go to a council meeting or MP meetings and raise a question. Then organise a demonstration and block off all of the roads with your friends for the day. This may not get you anywhere, but it will make them think about trying it twice.
The only thing authorities dislike is bad publicity. If you do that then they soon change. Keep it high profile and have a demonstration everytime you want to skate a road.
Good luck
Chris

hey and another thing about dis subject last year 14 people were injured in our town center by motorised shopping scooters, 2 by wheelchairs, 8 were injured by delivery trucks in pedestrian only areas, 21 by slipping on discarded food from takeaways and fast food outlets,34 injured by wet floors and unsafe pathways, there were 3,182 serious assaults involving drunkeness,6 people were viciously pecked by pigeons,9 people had to have hospital treatment following incidents where they fell over or into something while talking on a mobile phone, 11 cyclists including one fatality using cycle lanes.....guess what? nobody was injured by fly away skateboards and no skaters required treatment by west midlands ambulance services because of skating related injuries and yet we are the only users of the city center that have a bye law all to ourselves.
