Greetings from Latvia. I would like inform you that skateboard SLALOM has not stopped in Latvia. At least one competition goes on every year - last year, too. Where can I find info about World Skateboard Slalom Championship 2001 in USA? (How many participants, from which countries, who was the champion?) Gints G.

Thanks Chris for the response, conspiracy at St. Albans has the bones blues, Jon is a great bloke and will send them to you (for contact info type in conspiracyclothing). Also you may have tried but Simon Loveless at the skate shop in Poole Dorset might still have Lazer pivot cups.
Cheers.

I used to use Laser Slalom but I ran out of pivet cups so I switched to Indy 101s. I use Tracker blue rubbers, where can I get these now? I never liked Tracker and others all seemed too slow compaired to the Lasers. I also use a Rad pad and a .25 or .5 inck riser on the front, to allow extra turning before rubbing out, and the same at the back. I prefered a lower riser at the back where possible.

Hey Chris for tight slalom, I mean under 5ft what trucks are you using/find best, I find the newer gear doesn't seem to be as good (for me) as some of the older stuff. Lazers? ASC 650'S?...

No Jean Michel, I didn't forget did I? A single person can matter, this is why I write. Let's not forget to mention one very important person.
Dan Gesmer supported the ISSA with his sponsorship. I didn't forget that he gave me a set of 110's back then to help me with my cause.
Seismic and D.Gesmer continues to make waves around the world in regards to skateboardings direction. Both in the metaphoric and historic aspects as well as the "here and now." You know, I have ridden those 110's very long and hard on a longboard and on many slalom skateboards and they continue to crank without failure. Unreal. I cherish the moments on those trucks Dan G. gave to me and I will never forget his support, ever.
Jean Michel, I know you didn't forget Dan, neither did I.
Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. If we are going to make it happen again, then the aspect of hard work will in fact justify the means and in the end, all will benefit.
I will be so happy to meet you at ID4, a big slalom skateboarding Independance Day Event! I look forward to shaking your hand and sharing in this historic international celebration. My family will not be able to attend, so you will have to be my skateboarding family, oK?
Phew! Now let's get back to work. Getting those "Slalom" magazines online will take some doing.

Yes, Don and Jack, past is the past but everydody must knows the real history to don't make the same mistakes. And when i read the last discuss on this forum, i undertand one important thing: NOBODY KNOWS IN THE USA THE REAL ISSA'S WORK BETWEEN 90 AND 95 (with two BIG exceptions:John and Adam T). I've already write two long NCDSA posts about that...but it's visibly not sufficient. Ok, it's time for a new step, with: - a Jani SODERHALL interview (for the first week of february)...Yes, Adam, only Jani can declare the death of ISSA, so wait for his own point of view ! - the entire SALOM ! Mag collection on line (from 87 to 95 ) - the new edition of the VIDEO from LES JEUX PYRENNENS 1993, featuring all the euro top racers (and also John GILMOUR, Paul DUNN and Beau BROWN)
I'm also actually working on the évaluation (wtih the John's help) of the REAL euro slalom scene, on the modern slalom gear availability, on the GRS french chapter and the 2002 EUROTOUR RACES...and on some others "little" things, like my participation (with at least 4 euro racers) to the Gilmour's ID4 race.
In fact, i really think we're in front of 2 hypothesis: - the "best": 2002 will be for Euro slalom that the 2001 was for US slalom, THE REBUILDING YEAR. - the "worst": 2002 (and the following years...) will be for Euro slalom the year of silence, like the US slalom years during the ISSA highlights.
But 2002 is essentialy an hardworking year for all of us.
So, have fun with the great TLP series and, PLEASE, let's work together, Jack, Don and John O, Henry, John G, Adam T, Chris C, Claude, AttiLa, Chris (sounds of silence) L, Jani, Gareth, Deb "Fib", Howard, Gary and all the others TO PREPARE 2003, the year of race between Dylan GORDON and Alex ATTIA, the year of race between Curt KIMBEL and Gianmarco LUCA during the TROCADERO' WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, the year of the UNITED WORLD OF SLALOM SKATEBOARDING !

If anyone wants to email me I have some contact info fopr MR. Sweeny.

Obviously both JG and PD only competed in a few events. However there were quite a few europeans quite capable of placing regularly high in any cpmpetition.
Don't foget as Slalom was put to out pasture by the Skate Industry in California they creating there own. Tey did a fine job obviously. The talent level was second to none and very North Americans would have cracked the Top spots. freestyle lasted a little longer but they seemed to be running or working in several key companies in the Industry. They are showing little respect for themselves by not helping to promote the return of the Freestyle re-surgence.
Don't expect a lot of help from anyone other then what we have now. They be back when they can make a buck and drop as quick as it is time. That's business, I guess. I think most of us are here for the sport. So let's work together we now have the Forums (Thanks Adam).
Although nothing has been said about the USSSF of late I'm sure Andy is working on it behind closed doors with some of the Western US couterparts. Let's hope the ISSA re-emerges and works closely with the G.R.S./G.R.A.S.S. Worldwide branches being formed.
By the time were all pretty much ready for the over 40 Divisions as well as the Masters divisions we will all enjoy the sport in our own way. Hopefully with a smile.
Just remember that this time around when the money goes try to stick with it and keep working on organizing events. Even if it is only a couple of local ones a year. By the way there is not much money yet. Just a hell of lot of time and PASSION obviously in all parts of the WOLRD.
A Canucklehead point of view.

ISSA had only No UK members as I recall with the single exception of Martin Sweeny who spoke for the UK.
Although the rules were approved by skaters representing the countries of The Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Russia, Sweden,Switzerland and the USA. I doubt if very many people who skated in contests organized by ISSA log onto NCDSA currently as English was not any of the skaters' first languages.
Jean Michel Attia does not show up on the ranking sheets. In fact, unless things have changed dramatically the only people I knew who spoke English well enough to be able to read this Europe NCDSA forum easily out of the 194 slalomers listed on the ranking sheet as of 1993 (about 180 in 1995) were Jani Soderhall (Sweden), and Max Bimler (Germany), Anders Auer (Sweden)(Former World Snowboard Moguls Champion), and Erik Raitvir (Estonia).
I am only absolutely certain that Jani and Max read English rapidly. Hopefully this has changed. The Swiss Juniors - now adults probably speak English well, and the Russian Juniors might speak English well. The fact that we see so little posting from skaters that skated in ISSA contests is no surprise to me. I'm sure they browse the web in their native tongue- (just check out the South America forum on NCDSA to test your Portuguese and Spanish skills)- how they found NCDSA was probably through a multi-lingual browser or they decided to search under an English browser to find skateboard sites. Once in a great while I'll end up on a German Audio site so I can understand why we see virtually no representation.
To be on the ranking sheet you had to be a member of The ISSA many people were not members of the ISSA and raced solely locally in their home countries such as Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Lithuania. So there were many more racers than those ranked. Slalom boards have regularly sold in the Former Eastern Block shops- they never experienced a slalom deck shortage like the USA.
Over 120 of the ranked ISSA racers were from these Eastern european countries. 100% of women ranked ISSA racers (22)were from there- until Jeanie Clarke raced for the USA in 1995. Man, those Russian women were fast skaters.
Many racers from these countries were not permitted to travel as they had to be selected from their respective countries sports federations. People were always worrying about defection and they always sent someone to watch the "Iron Curtain" skaters carefully.
The remainder of the skaters was split pretty evenly amongst the remaining countries with the USA having the fewest of the Western countries- in 1995 Jonathan Morgan was ranked 43rd, I was ranked 54th, followed by James Westfall (79th), Robert Palmer (86th), Paul Dunn (129th) and in the Juniors division Wea Watanabe (18th), Josh Spenser (20th), Blake Velilla (23rd), and Don Haidl (25th). There were about 30 kids in the Juniors division.

There is no reason for you to keep quiet about anything. Express yourself as you see fit.
However you said "I am continually amazed that some slalom skateboarding enthusiasts at the NCDSA proclaim this historical international organization dead. This perspective is offensive to my history, disrespectful of our ISSA slalom skateboarding enthuisiasts abroad and causes me every time to defend this great organization in a public/global forum. Please stop offending me."
My point is that you are entitled to express yourself as you see fit and so are those who see the ISSA as dead. To tell them to "stop offending" you is to curtail their right to express reality as they see it. To some an organization which hasn't been active for several years is "dormant" to others it is dead. In either case it has little relevance to the US slalom scene in 2002.
