SS of S!!!!!!!
I may have to dust off the ole house tracks and play a few gigs to pay for a trip to my motherland (I am a Hornby and need my Coat of Arms). That or figure out a way to sell my 40 year old body to some of these rich old women that live here in sunny Southern Calif.! That would take alot of time and I wouldn't make it til around the year 2010. SOunds like you have the UK scene BLOWING UP!
I have met the Gravity folks and they are a cool bunch. Great they can make it there for the event!
Keep On!

Anyone wondering about this venue in Shefield, their URL is www.thehouseskatepark.co.uk but I dont think they have a 'full length' shot so it's hard to get an idea of how it really is. Feel free to email owner Rob Bannister too and express your enthusiasm and support for the event!
Basically Michael Stride is coming up in the next week or two to help me out. When he's cast his expert eye over things, were gonna set a date and all systems will be go. Long boarding will be catered for too, with Lush on board. The event will almost certainly be at night, after 9 when the opark closes to the public. There is a real ale pub mere yards from the venue, too.
This will RRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!Rich

Mike, Remember the skating at Sevenoaks. That car park that dried quickly. Well the building next door with the underground car park opens soon. As soon as there is a manager I can approach, with bottles of whiskey etc, I will try to gain access at night and Sundays.
Call me about cold calling venues when you have time.

Too me it looks like a downhill with some banks on the sides that make it like a giant snake run with a flat bottom.
In the video you'll see that the guy who is in the lead got his lead by pumping.

Hi Tod what is the cross style that the swiss are promoting?? is it like a longboard slalom with bigger cone spacing or something??? I quite dig those airflow boards, I think they are swiss and look like a slalom type board.

hi I have just added a review of the gravity slides video to my UK longboard page. My page is now listed in the links section. I also have a forum on there which is in dire need of input. Also looking to hook up with skaters in the Torbay area for any type of longboarding, carving, slalom, hills, or just cruising around the area. All this talk of slalom kicking off big in 2002 is real exciting even though neither of my boards are proper slalom boards it is great to see a lot of interest in stuff other than short board flipping and the interest it will bring about in longboard skating.

Comps. Entry costs will be kept down. As low as poss. Always was that way, always should be. As for practice sessions, generally they were always informal. Whoever turned up would have a blast. The more the merrier. Some of the proposed events will not be comps. More like a show. So no entry fee for those. And don't worry if your just practicing, we all start somewhere. The sessions are specifically planned to be in places where a lot of other things are happening, to be family friendly. So if you get family to give you a ride, there is stuff for them to do, apart from watching the skating. As for age groups, Well Chris Linford proposed it should be restricted to 35's and over. Just because he realises he's gonna be beaten by younger skaters one day. Seriously, age bands are a good idea. And the idea of comps is to give people of all abilities a crack at winning something if they try. Best rookie etc. But I'll tell you what, to improve you've got to race 'above weight'. Good Luck

IMHO the Europeans would blow away the Americans. The best I ever managed in a European slalom event was a 3rd in GS in 1995 at the Trocadero in Paris. Typically I was beaten by over a full second (about 5 cone lengths sometimes more) by Gianmarco Luca in the tight slalom events. I rode softer wheels then though- but still I expect that Luca would dominate. Paul Dunn, Beau Brown, And I all raced The Europeans in a very tight offset course on a flat with a ramp in Europe. None of us made the top 16- I have video of the racing.
Respectfully the Top Europeans are more skilled and have much more advanced body angulation that the Top American racers in tight slalom.
The top Europeans were younger than the Americans. Luca is probably about 30. Gints Zommers from Latvia is around 28 or so. Luca was the top Italian Free climber and a coach. His pull out of the gates is so strong that he often reaches the bottom of the ramp before all 4 wheels of your deck have started down.
Jose Dematos can run some of the most offset and tight courses at speed- I can not make his courses. Martin Sweeney runs super tight courses that not many others could even consider making 4 footers with offsets. He does controlled slides while pumping at a good rate throught these courses- even at his new larger size. Jani Soderhall the king of the technical offset courses that require braking and accelleration- not only that he has this skill for being able to produce exactly the time he needs for placing himself in the proper place in the bracket so he does not meet the number one racer until the finals- he has an extremely powerful and fast pump. Simon Levene has his tasmanian devil sicko acceleration from about 5-20 in about 4 turns- able to run english tight as well as European and American tight distances. Santi Diaz is a talented swiss riders who almost never hits a cone- I can't recall him ever hitting one. Daniel Ridoli likes technical courses adn is also difficult to beat. In standard courses like the ones we set- Andres Sidler (about 6'4" and also former Swiss Kickboxing champion)is always consistently fast using very economical body movement. Joesph Stevka (Czech)- cuts cones within a 1/4 inch of each cone- very fast. So that is what you could expect to see should you watch them race. They are all much faster than Maurus Stroble- who was fast enough to get 2nd at Morro Bay.
I would hope to see the French, Italian, Swiss, and other countries using NCDSA to organize in this forum like we see the UK slalomers. So don't be afraid to post in your native language (Italian, German,French, Russian etc.) . Just look at the South America Forum- looks okay there. Se Habla Espanol? Fala Portuguese?

Contests that are in the process of being organised and permission being sought are: Crystal Palace, Easter, combined with Brixton. Brands Hatch...whenever. Sheffield...indoors, maybe an outside one too, to be confirmed. Thorpe Water Ski (AKA John Battleday Centre) near Thorpe Park, event to be scheduled subject to insurance. Practice sessions as well. Milton Keynes x-Scape, event to be held if council give permission....Bude downhill, etc etc etc, the Lush tour... What I'm saying is there is lots in the pipeline, most WILL come off but look back here for details. Clingfilm and others are all working to make it happen. Its chicken and egg...get invoved. Your Welcome. And as for sponsorship. If your talking personal sponsorship, then the trick is to win races. Simple as that.

John I can't help ask this as I'am of the inquisitive type BUT in yours and any other world class slalomer who has ACTUALLY raced with the euro's opinion how would the European's now fare with the top Americans (soon I'am sure we will see), on say TS and hybrid type courses.

Great Jean-Michel! I was wondering where I would find Santi. I'm sure I can find Andres Sidler through Guido Silder his dad who has a large painting company. Please forward the Emails. Jose is one of the best slalomers I have seen for very offset courses. I'm sure Jani has contact info for the Swedes. We aren't very far off now as Erik Raitviir (Est), Jose (France), Jani (Sweden), Gianluca Ferrero (Italy), Alex Lutz(D), Daniel Ridoli (CH), Gints Gailitus (Lat) are some of the "key " slalomers in their respective countries. Now for the Russians......
If We were to have Red Bull organize a race series I think we have it.

re Lanzarote they are always laying new roads so lots of smooth tarmac you can downhill at fire mountain in the evening when the tourist buses are gone but watch out for stray bits of lava rock. Over at La Santa where the killer surf & killer locals are they have a small concrete mini ramp about 5'ft high. Furteventura has more of a longboard scene with swiss s camber boards for sale in the 'Green room' and lots of Euro surf/snow types either visiting or in summer residence. there are a couple of bowls/halfpipes scattered about the island but nothing too exciting
