Chris am in the process of moving to Wareham (near to Poole) will just miss you, won't be down there until Sunday and will be very busy. But in the future would love to meet up and see how its done! Missed the sheff. meet (probably no great loss to slalomkind!!). So if your down again anytime give us a shout. Great place to be in the summer, have already started seeking out some local slalom spots, haven't ventured out to Christchurch though.

What a Great Northern education! Having only ever skated on the very flat Parks of Bishop and Hyde, I turned up to The House and was immediately impressed by the flippy kids' complete lack of any fear of height. I took a look at one perilously steep ramp at the end of the building and thought to myself "that's why you do slalom, lad." 'Finesse over bravado' I told myself.
Then Michael set up the timing equipment at it's base and the testing began with fluid demos from Clingfilm, Levene and Parry-Jones, closely followed by the Airflow boys. That monstrosity was not an extreme part of street kit, but the start ramp. I had travelled all the way up to Sheffield from London only to realize that I couldn't actually take part. Excuse the phrase, but "bugger, bitch, bollux" went through my head a couple of times more than once. I'd bitten off more than I could chew.
If I'd been alone then I'd have withdrawn to the pub then and there, but with support from my girlfriend went off to try the two foot ramp in the 'minis' section. A six year old and I spent minutes in a "you go first; no, you go first" dispute that compelled me to do the adult thing and have a go. I was, after all, six times his age, so I boldly pushed off, shot over backwards and landed on my backside. Easy sport. It was, not to take too much credit, partially that demonstation that persuaded the Brixton Boys to get their entry forms in promptly. Paul K's demos were clearly another deciding factor. Both he and I spent many hours at the top of the start ramp staring at the floor like Shaggy and Scooby armed with handkerchief parachutes at the top of Beachy Head. We. magnanimously, let quite a few people before us.
In short, because of the excellent energy and 'have a go' vibe initiated by SSofS and supported by 'MC' Michael, Lush Longboards, Urbanboards, Turner, Roe et al, I took part AND made it to the pub over the other side of Sheffield for both last orders and to 'talk the talk...' so thanks guys; top event!

PK, the Turners are made in California, so have withstood earthquakes for 30 years! Now...what is the name of those trucks I do as well, could they be designed to be earthquake proof? I will call you Tsunami for a week. I wondered why I was shot up in the air during the comp.

Fortunately, didn't get any bruises from the prizes slam,
got tasty hip bruise from sliding out while trying "pro" course
Anyway, it was my board that nearly wiped out the prizes not me!!, unless you mean by virtue of the shockwave and following aftershocks that followed, how resilient to earthquakes are turners anyway!!

PK, was that the slam into the prizes that gave you the bruises, or did you slam again? Either way, if your gonna slam its always best to do it at high speed, in front of everyone, past the soundsystem and into the prizes, preferably on video! You are indeed a master. I was proud to award you my own personal prize for 'slam of the day'!

BADASS... I have no problem at all, but I dont get much time on the PC these days, with NCDSA I can be in and out in no time! Hows about making it a bit more straightforward, Im sure thats the only reason there's not so much posting there as there is here! LIke now, Im in a rush so Im just doin a quick one here, no time to surf around! We'll be sure to make better all round use of all the various sites and support BADASS and others next time. Cheers for your note, point taken, its good to keep it 'UK' too.
Thanks to all for your kind words about Board Fest, we must do it again soon!

where were the camera/urbanboards guys for the longboarding?? we had plenty of boards spare ;) the guys from Adrenaline mag got some great stills, but it would have made some sweet video.
badass forum is good, but is there any way of making it less complicated? takes ages just to read different threads and there's loads of excessive graphic stuff. very fancy, but I dunno if it's really necessary for simple effective communication...

It is a shame that you are not all posting on the BADASS forum, have you got a problem posting there ?
There has still been no one to take on the slalom section as a board mod.
I hope to see you all there soon....

Hi all,
what a great weekend for Urbanboards. We placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the main event proving Airflow skateboards to be one of the best brands in the UK.
Thanks to all who helped and raced to make it a great day.
We got some wicked footage and will be making a video for sale but not to make money just to make progress so i will charge what im charge for it.
If there are any shops or distributors who want a copy or several copies please let me know.

What can I add. A good time by all. All I can add is some notes on why it went well for anyone else considering a boardfest. 1. You can not over organise these events, and they need constant work untill it is over. 2. Make sure that you have the proper approval to run the event at specified locations. 3. Make plans incase it rains or there are other problem, Always have a plan B. 4. Welcome people and make sure that everyone has fun. 5. Be mad enough to do it.
Well done guys. 10 out of 10 alround.
Rock on Chris

Weell, first time Ive managed to get near a computer to put my thoughts down 'on paper'... A few thankyous...
IN no particular order:
Chris and all at Lush, inc. your DJ friend who stood playing for ages in the freezing cold, cheers geezer (and for the PA too) Michael 'Seiko' Stride for the timing, the press work and all round encouragement. Great MC, too! The House for letting us do it The nutters who actually made the trip esp. Brixton Cycles and Urban Boards, all skatesmen to the core. The pro's: Smokestack, Linford, Parry Jones and Chris Hart and your mate all the way from SwITZERLAND, for God's sake! (That blew me away, I have to say)It was great that you all endorsed the event and came all that way to show us something of what slalom's all about... Come the summer, we'll have a bigger event, outdoors this time... All the local kids who gave it a go. Hopefully it's something they'll remember and we might get a new generation of slalom fiends growing up in Sheffield. Well, if they never see it, they'll never do it!
That's all for now, pix to follow anyone in attendance who had a digicam (Paul K?) matbe could try and post some!
Sheffield Board Fest 2002? It RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Macho grasy arse to all involved in setting it all off-next time come to London... Aviemore sounds like a go-er too. Remember: the early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese! ps thanks for the pleasure of camping in your garden. I'm off to New Compton Street now....

Thanks to all who came along to Boardfest 2002 and to those who made it happen!
Clingfilm, Smokestack, Michael and others, thanks for the impropmtu carpark slalom-jam (I'm convinced that was the best slalom session!), the feeling of getting the cones right, pumping and getting faster each run is addictive!...shame you guys had to leave, everyone was stoked. Thanks for the introduction to slalom.
Brixton Boys, what can I say, you came, you saw, you Colemaned your asses off (literally for some of you....hope you guys feel better soon!) Great riding the all-night session with you all...got to do it again in better weather.
Gimpsuitboy, awesome sound your board made under that car, hope the new decks come out ok, I'll email you soon with those drawings for the drop-through sizes. Keep your eyes on the Lushlongboards site for pics of the new concave Spooky if it gets into production. Looking forwards to racing with you at Aviemore.
Ross and Rich, the last to leave, riding in the rain...you guys are nuts! Great riding with you. Hope to see you both again sometime this summer.
Thanks again to all the people who helped out, to the sponsors and to The House for providing the venue.
