and whilst you wigglers were tucked up in ya cosy Holiday Inn dreaming of how many brekfasts you were gonna guzzle there was some hardcore midnight to 4am downhilling going on! About 14 of us on black ice roads going stupidly fast in totally unsafe conditions - I hav'nt had so much fun since the cat died! Full respect to the gimpsuit crew - you left us bruised and in awe. We are looking forward to summer picnics at Crystal Palace- cucumber sandwiches , pipe and slippers, and some balletic carving through the trees...

My advise to Sam is to enter the next race!!!! But first we will make the ramp twice as high as he enjoys it so much. Soon we all be leaping from high buildings in a single bound! Hopefully at the next race I'll actually compete, and by then the timing will be sorted. Delegation. Chris'll tell you it was working fine the week before. Typical.

The times I have are as follows
O'connor 9.35 12.78 8.56 Gordan 8.72 9.44 9.41 Neil 8.88 9.03 no third run
I would say overall Neils was better. He also hit no cones, as indeed did sam.

Just to state that the results are so close in time it was difficult to award on the night due to the timing equipment. We are talking 0.028 between three people. However Neil won the prize on merit of improvement. A bit subjective, but we did not have three Roes to give away. It should be noted that Grass roots events are not about awarding the best equipment to the fastest but to encourage slalom, hence sponsored skaters could not take the top prizes. Hope this helps as it was a difficult problem on the night.

Michael, is this the moment where I say that if all three results for each rider were averaged out (or added up in a skiing style) then Neil would probably have thrashed me?
Besides, he's bigger...

Thanks to all of the sponsors (Turner, Roe, Vans, Lush longboards) and the organisers at Lush and the House for making this event not only happen, but for making it the success it was. Roll on the next one. Announcements on the day may have been a little different to these results in places. With these small time differences it was easy to make a mistake under pressure. Apologies if this applies to you.

Lee, what's the news of Brands Hatch on April 1? ...and is the date significant? In other words, will I find myself clinging to the spoiler of Eddie Irvine (a la Marty McFly) yelling that he should have 0.2 seconds added to his lap time 'cos he hit the curb? ...and shouldn't he be on a Turner?

I have mailed the timesheets to Clingfilm today in his guise as UKSSA administrator. I'd expect a full listing to be posted at the weekend. Sorry for the delay. This is an ideal oppurtiunity to tell everyone you are in the top 30!...until the next comp, and things get even bigger

Paul, every time I stood at the top of the start ramp my vision went blurry, my BODY stiffened and if my behaviour would have been more primal I'd have marked my territory. By the time I'd made it down to cross the start wire the adrenaline rush was such that the cones seemed incidental and more often than not I treated them as such. Just for the record, in the real world I don't usually walk around with headlight eyes.
Now please conceal this record by adding quite a few posts on other, more complex matters, thereby sending this missive into the 'older' sections.
Michael, as a matter of general interest and personal vanity, have the results to Sheffield been posted anywhere as yet?

Sam, that drop in was scary! Rich SSofs will tell you how scarred I was when I looked at it the a few weeks before the comp. The House extended the platform back by a couple of feet, before the roll in was a massive 6". I'm glad you plucked up the courage and I see from the time sheets your first run was under 9 secs with no cones down. Well done!
Yes it is a fast start, but with newbies, 8 year olds 40 year olds and the women competitors I think most overcame the fear. Its posts like yours that remind me of learning and it does us all good to be reminded of how difficult different terrain can be. To qoute my favourite movie..Top Gun..."Gutsiest move I ever saw".....

Sheffield -- wish I could've been there. But it's great fun reading everyone's posts. The excitement, and the sense of having been there at the Start of Something Big, are contagious, just as they were last spring when Morro Bay happened.
BADASS -- a great idea with flawed architecture. What makes NCDSA work (in a crude technical sense), is the simplicity and directness of the interface. It's like walking into the local pub on a lively evening. You stroll over to, say, the "Slalom" crowd, and all these conversations are going on, and immediately you're right there in the middle of it. Whenever you're ready, you can pop over to see what's up with the Euro crowd.
The BADASS interface is complex, and it seems to put a lot of unneeded partitions between one mate and the next. You walk over to where the "Slalom" crowd is gathered, but you find that a strange system has been imposed by the management, whereby if you want to talk about Turner decks, you have to sit at THIS booth. If you want to talk about trucks, go over to THAT booth. Now, before you say anything, decide what color shirt you'd like to wear. Necktie or pocket hankie? Will you be ornamenting your remarks with elaborate gestures? And for heaven's sake, don't change the subject!
To further complexify: Before you enter the booth, you can't tell who is in there. You can only see who arrived first, how long ago the last comment was made, and how many individual remarks the conversation has contained -- but it takes a bit of time to absorb all this, and you still haven't actually laid eyes on any of your mates yet. And by the way, should you drop back in tomorrow, there's a possibility the whole booth will have been moved to, say, the "Street skating" corner of the establishment.
This is not to minimize or disparage the noble efforts of the BADASS crew. I'm talking about software, not people.
