i think regardless of whether or not there will be any space to run slalom we could run a friendly slalom comp using downhill boards and what not...that way more skating gets done and thus more fun for all...i'm not that familiar with bude tho' to pick a spot.

Bude
On 4/29/2002 Clingfilm wrote in from (195.195.nnn.nnn)

I'm not really up to go to Bude on the off chance. I know the guys there have been putting a lot of work into the event. It is a shame because I would have entered the speed if I could do some slalom, but it is too aukward to get to. I am sure that if there was slalom they would have had more entries for the downhill than they could cope with.
It is a shame as they were hoping that we could use the parking bay behind the start to the downhill. If there was slalom at Bude I would have put on a downhill at Brands.
Never mind.
I would not bank on another event in Bude this year although I have heard of a location in Bath although it needs someone local to organise it.

Hi Gavin,

we spoke to the guys at Airculture and Zumajays but they couldnt give any room for a slalom race.

They are thinking of doing one later in the year. If we all turn up at bude im sure we can find a spot some where in bude or newquay to have a slalom race. Maybe just some car park some where.

let me know what you think

As it has been wet and windy today, a bit like me when I have a hangover really, I decided to do some work on the calendar. It now has links to site I know, let me know if there are others.

Also I notice an event in Switzerland in Thun, organised by Airflow. Is this event on and what is involved?

I have no news from Aviemore, anyone knows the organisers and how to contact them, they want a slalom, or longboard slalom event, but I am busy then.

Racing In France
On 4/26/2002 Michael wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

Serre Chevalier...I'll be there FFF, i'll bring Martin Drayton too. Serre Chevalier is about an hour down the most amazing twisty mountain raod from Les Deux Alpes, Martin's summer home for his snowbaord camps. It also the home of Luc Alphond, the legendary french ski racer, and in the sunniest place in France.
If any brits want to go there, get in touch. Eurostar/TGV to Grenoble should be £129, from there its a bus to L2Alpes, from there i'm thinking Martins minibus to Serre Che. Both resorts have 'Le Camping'.

French comps
On 4/26/2002 Clingfilm wrote in from (195.195.nnn.nnn)

FFF
Can you let us know what are the closest airports and where in France (in general terms) they are.
One of the confusions I have had over the Swiz boardX comp is I did not know where it was, how to get there and what the comp was really about, I'm too old and have kids so I can not just up and go on a whim, you'll find this out.

I think that this is good advice for all.
If you run a comp list travel plans, location, event details. The BoardFest I was a good attempt at this and a model to follow. This will allow more to turn out and take part.

For my part at Brands, my local town has good hotels, many in old country Inns. I cvan hire a mini bus to transport everyone from there.
If you have other plans the way to Brands Hatch is by train to Swanley where we will either provide transport or you need a cab to the curcuit.
If you drive it is M25 to Swanley turn off where it is sign posted.

What every comp needs is a lock in like in Sheffield, however if in Tonbridge you may still get the Morris Dancers.

Hope this helps all

Chris

Summer Session #1
On 4/25/2002 chris @ lush wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

to clear things up : Boardfest was a collaboration between SSofS (GRS Slalom) and Lush Longboards for a general skate weekend.

The upcoming event, 11/12 may, is a Lush Longboards organised event intended for longboarding; big hills of the Peak District. I'm not going to organise any slalom (it will happen anyway cos a lot of people will have their boards and maybe cones), so if anybody wants to do that for me then SSofS says he's happy to help out this end.

11/12 May : Summer Session #1 : Sheffield

(NOT Boardfest 2)
There will be more Summer Sessions over the coming months, all over the country, longboarding mainly, hosted by various other people, under the Lush Longboards "Summer Sessions" name. More details are on the Lush Longboards website

Please make cheques payable to my favourite charity, The Michael Stride Yacht Appeal. Good to hear from you again matey.
