Skated Bezerkeley for the first time yesterday and had a great little sesh till I got overrun by bikers and headed down to Vans.
Does anyone from the East Bay know of any deep bowls to skate? I usually avoid it due to traffic, smog, heat in the summer etc. As it is, it took us almost three hours to get home from Vans yesterday, but am hoping for some good suggestions. Thanx... p.s.-Already been to Alameda, Dublin, Antioch, Fairfield

Lights, ladders and the like MAKE a pool a pool. We usually leave them in unless it's a permission pool and we don't want to damgage anything more than we have to. If you take all that pool stuff out you still have a pool, just without some of it's original character.

well, the pool that i've been skating has this light with a lip that sticks up high enough that if you hit it, it's SLAM TIME. i would like to pull it and tape a small street sign over the hole, but my partner in crime says that it's an obstacle to go over and adds to the character of the pool. so.................what say ye? would YOU leave it there?
peace, richard

Lansdowne Grand Re-Opening Sept 18th

Hey folks...this will be held on sept 18th now, which is a saturday. Come on out and join Taz & I and many others as the County Executive snips the ribbon and officially opens the skate park. Then we will charge onto the skate park and skate!! Rumours have it the ribbon-cutting will take place between 11:30am and noon....I will confirm as the date approaches. There's just a few rules at this once lawless historic skateboard park: 1. All skaters must wear a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. 2. Admission is free but you must fill out a card w/the Baltimore County Rec Dept(no ifs, ands,or buts) If you are 17 or under, your folks must fill out the card for you(ie, they must permit you to skate)3. Skating is only allowed during open skate park hours, currently 3-8pm Mon-fri, and 12noon-8pm on weekends. Of Course, this is subject to change. I don't make the rules. I have openly declared these rules to be dumb and unproductive, but this is the deal for right now. Hopefully, we can get this changed au futur. But, for the time being, come on out and join us for a fun time(TEAM FUN is in the house) let's show 'em how a skate park is supposed to be skated. Also looking for donations for prizes from skate shops and local businesses. All those who donate prizes(and no prize is too small)will be named in the Grand re-Opening Brochure and publicly thanked. No porn videos please! Contact me at the above e-mail address.

Thanks for the post So Cal Skater. I am no stranger to the fine S CA skateparks. I have been to all that you mentioned, except for Encinitas. I was in San Diego during the Grand Opening last month, but blew off going there. Would be too crowded. Went to Memorial instead. You can bet on this trip I will skate Encinitas.

The other day I tried my '77 or so G&S FibreFlex Bowlrider with original Tracker Fulls and Kryptonic 70mm blues in a small local bowl I 'discovered' just the day before. Yes, I was riding as a teen back then. I was *so* excited to at 41 finally get to ride a bowl and I'm quite sure it was not just the old setup that was the problem! But yeah, nothing beats the feel of that board cruising on hills, banks and small ramps (which is all we could do in CT back then) - perfect board for an old fart to have in his trunk.

Theres a ton of stuff to skate in So Cal, Fontana is fun, Upland of course, Etnies just fixed their bowl, Skatelab, Laguna Niguel. I think that Glendale might be shut down around the time you are here, it seems there has been some shoddy work on the place and its been falling apart, so they have to do more repairs AGAIN! Bummer, San Diego has some good stuff, Clairmont, Washington, Encinitas, PB and a few others.
Socalskateparks has a good list of whats happening round these parts.

has anyone ever heard of (or better yet, skated their parks) m3dskate?
bids for our (athens, georgia) public park just came back and they are the only one who submitted a proposal that we're not familiar with (the other proposals came from dreamland, grindline, team pain, site design group and california skateparks)
we're excited, don't have much dough ($150,000 and still raising money), but looking forward to getting this thing in the ground
btw....september 10/11, 2004 we're having a HUGE benefit in downtown athens - slalom race, freestyle demo, street skating, bands, viewings of northwest and fotv - if you're located in the southeast, get in touch with me and make the trip to athens, i'm providing lodging (courtyard by marriot) for out of towners
thanks, 66

On this day Green Skate Lab volunteers will be needed to bring discarded tires found lying around the yard or in the alley and to bring fill dirt, rocks, or gravel...then to fill the tires with this fill material. A demo will be held to show you how to do it..no experience is necessary....directions from the Beltway...take rt 50W, take the S.Dakota Av exit, then go left on Vista, then Right on 20th st ne...go behind the Langdon Rec Ctr. Spread the good word...make this free skate bowl a reality!

I finished restored Hobie Rocker, outfitted with Gullwing Split axles and the cambria/RR4 replicas. All i can say is these old things are a blast. the wheels are a little too slow for super serious bowl work, but cruising and carving is a joy. a change to some of the 90-94a wheels would fix that. n the street and ditches they are a real joy. I have also been skating my Jay Adams Z, and an 8x30 retro deck. All I can say, is these things feel so cool.
Next on the agenda locally is a snake run. lets hope that comes to fruition.
Does anyone else like skating these old 77 vintage set-ups (or others)? I am having a total blast. yes, I skated them then, too!

from what i understand, the builtins are at best an abec 1 pawned of by chris as an abec 7, the fraudulent claims only go so far until the consumer realizes it, after i got mine i kept waiting and waiting for them to go fast, i was thinking they still need to break in, instead they just got worse and worse.
i to switched to rockets, they be the sheeeeot.

Rockets vs. Built-ins

I used both. I bought a set of Built-in's from Chris last year. I have been using Powell Swiss 6 and at first the Built-in's were fast, but the speed wore off after several used. I went back to the Powells and gave the Built-in's to a friend in a wheel sale. Then I bought some of Rons bearings. I swear they get faster with evey use! As of now I will not use anything but Rockets!

Yes, that's what they called me this past wknd...it's the only way I can keep the sweat out of my eyes especially when wearing the helmet. Hey, I'm just one of a bunch of truly worthy roundwallers who are pushing for concrete skate parks in the mid-atlantic area....all the ECRW folks, Green Skate Lab volunteers, DC Outlaws(they don't only slalom), Anthony and DCDC, the old Lansdowne Sunday Mass crew, all the young'uns from STM and Chaco, and now Fredn'ek, The Downer Boys, Riverdal Ditchsters,DC Chapter Surfrider Foundation, and fellow Team Funsters. We're trying to educate the local pks & rec sters to not make the fatal modular mistake....sorry I won't b at Lacosta, though I will b there in spirit got to keep on top of the bills....hey my BGE bill was $33 last month so I'm trying to save up.....Thanks for all the support all of you...have fun in Lacosta everybody....Curt Kimbel and LBK get 2 thumbs up in my book. Peace! Now only is Osama skated there would be world peace!
