eddie,
equipment matters less than in slalom. you just need something that feels
good under your feet and has the holes drilled straight, the wheels are
not flatspotted, the bearings are seated decently, the board is not warped
too badly, the truck axles are more or less straight.
all that is more important than the brand of equipment.
sometimes getting that is harder than you might hope. it requires a little luck.
you might have to buy a couple decks and sets of trucks to get this.
But pool setups are cheap, you can buy 3 or 4 for what most other sports
cost. then just ride the one you like the most.
keep your wheels around 60mm, the duro 95 and above, the risers around 3/8th,
the width of the board around 9", the wheelbase from 15.5 to 17 and then
just go skate. wheel wells are nice to have.
I like the new-school-ish shapes, maybe with a square tail. comet makes great decks, check the 'ice' model. alva makes nice decks. black label makes nice decks. powel makes nice decks. you can't go too wrong with any of these.
as a big guy and a slalom dude, you want to stay away from wheelbases under
15.5 tho. will be too squirrelly, you'll feel cramped and not able to carve
at full speed.
indy 169s, tracker six tracks, grind king jay adams, they all work, powell bones bushings are a nice upgrade. you should use medium maybe even one
medium and a hard in each truck at 210lbs.
wheels, people love these powell SPFs, I prefer 95-97 duro wheels and seem to go just as fast.
bearings, it doesn't matter much, bones reds, rockin rons ceramics, powell sixballs, pleasure tools ceramics, they are all good as long as they are clean and lubed.

been doing allot of carving, sliding and hill bombing. started doing kick turns and stuff. i want to get a good board for parks, pools, ditches, and learning some bowls and vert. i want to get air and grind. im about 6'1'' 210lbs. dont know how to ollie yet. cant decide on a "old school" or "new school" style deck. i like boards to be very manuvurable. i need to know about risers, decks, trucks. as for wheels, i think i will want some abec 11 no skoolz, right? or do i want some small hard white wheels? i dont know. help, thanks.

to be 100% truthful, my 34x9 Red Kross Lucero with INDY 169s(yellow bottom bushing and no washer, red top bushing), 3 Lucky risers and orange Conspiracy Alien Shots 99a...that there's the ULTIMATE bowl carving machine.
here's a picture of that setup in a smoothe frontside carve at BRICKTOPIA.
a kicktail actually gives "some" control...
the pointy nosed board is a custom shape from Energy Skates outta JohnnyB's WOOD factory, up in PA. I designed it for the Kona Banked Salmon...basic pig shape in the middle, cutaway rounded square tail, cutaway pointy pointy nose. I remember Olson was showing me his pointy HerrVaughnster at K.O.K.2002. he even scraped the nose on the ground, sharpening it like a spear. "makes me faster..." I think that's what he said.
so I mostly needed a pointy nose on my shape.
deck; 34x8.7362 at the fattest part up front. it's 9 ply birch. riding it at at 24"wb in the picture(GS). it has a nice stiff flex. also rear drilled for 21"wb (TS).
wheels; 76mm krypto downhill wheels(Gilligan hooked me up with a birthday set!)
bearings; FKD abec5. purple seals.
hardware; OG Vision Knuckleheads
risers; front, wedged black rubber, back flat OG Tracker 1/2".
trucks; INDY 126, with 10mm lathed off each side of the polished hangers. as pictured, using a 10mm spacer to keep the 126 witdh...oh, and waaaaay lighter weight. for TS, I'll put on smaller wheels, put the spacer to the outside of the wheel and have some 106's, that easy. like them Bennett Ad-Tracks or something.
It's really more of a board I bring with me to the skatepark, so I have a smooth ride skating the 1/4 mile from the skatepark to the bathroom/water.
I rode it down from hippihill after my session was over and decided to get all snowboardey and roll around some...Q-Lander had his camera out and I said I'd grind it, so I had to. kinda got outta hand.
when the wedge risers decided to pull back into the bowl, it was like a kamikaze dive.
it was a fun play time, but(I feel) a real pool deserves a real pool ride.
you had to go and ask, didn't you...heh heh heh

Painting a Pool

At the local park, some kids came and spray painted all over the brand new concrete pool. Nothing cool, just badly misspelled words. You've got to love the 11yr old "gangsters" in little hick towns of NC.
Anyway, to fix the problem, I would like to paint the bowl a solid color (and maybe simulate tile near the coping). My question is: What kind of paint do you all suggest? It needs to hold up to the weather and not make the bowl too slippery or sticky.
