I love Albuquerque Ditches. Saturday was a great session with some mighty tall walls and long carves. I'm so spoiled to live where I do and truly appreciate the land of ditches.

I'm not aware of this ditch and I would like to see the photo. Repost the photo please. All the ditches in my area have a layer of snow/ice on the south walls. Ditch season is in remission. Can't wait for the spring. Burque Baby, Burque

Thanks to all who have forwarded threads for spots to be included in a new compendium of Arizona skate spots. Please, continue to do so. I intend to make the first edition as complete as possible so it will take some time, but we are hard at work.

Sorry about not leaving an email addy but you got it. As for the site I got it from was Sn'B and I did give emails at the bottom of the page who are doing the giving and taking. They will provide you with all the info you need and think you will find these individuals very credible. You seem to be a cool cat Hugh and hope you partake in some of that old yultide(however you spell it?)spirit for this drive. Besides, skateboarding is from the heart! Merry Christmas Hugh.
Eric
P.S.-I'm far from rich(but was blessed to pay the rent and very thankful for it)and still bought a deck.

Eric,
With all the different types of scams going on the net these days, it would be helpful if:
*You posted who you are, including an email address
*You posted the name and location of the other site where you got this info from
*You provided some info where we could check into the people who are doing the collecting a little bit
There are quite a few generous people on this site, but the generally like to have points of contact that they can verify... HR

I'm about to embark on a full tilt exploration/ documentation of Valley of the Sun aquaducts. GPS, photography, the works. I have everything I need for almost any contingency including underground exploration for buried pipes. Please, submit threads for locations you would like to have explored here in the Phoenix area. I intend to make this report public when finished but will be discrete with information regarding spots that are genuinely deserving. Especially desired are access points to the pipes that are buried under Phoenix and Tempe. I know where the pipes are buried but can't find access points.

Decks For Needy Kids Fund

I got this from another forum and thought this a very worthy cause...
---DECKS FOR NEEDY KIDS---
Alright members!!! Here's the latest update we can give you on our little, big-hearted project...
We are getting 50 complete skateboards to giveaway to needy kids for the holidays.
We are arranging for 5 distributors in 5 cities to each have 10 skateboards that will be given away to needy kids. I can't tell you exactly how it will work out at every location but here is my plan...
I am getting together with an organization like the big brother/sisters of America, a foster kids organization or even an orphanage. The idea is that I will find 10 kids in the DC, MD, VA area that love skateboarding but can't afford it. I will try to get them all together at a local skatepark and give them their gifts. I am trying to make arrangements for a free session from the park. Then I'll take pictures of the event & post them here so that you can all see the happiness that your gift delivered.
I have suggested this approach to the other distributors. It is the easiest & safest way to handle this event. By going through an organization we reduce any liability to us directly. The organization becomes liable for accepting the gifts. All we have to do is see the event through to make sure that the kids actually do get the decks. I will not just give the decks to an organization & let them give them out at their discretion.
To keep this on the level, I contracted Rich Fosmire about securing the decks. With his help we have located 50 new school decks that we can purchase at cost, a name brand truck company has stepped up to the plate (again thanks to Rich) and have provided the trucks. We have the hardware, bearings and grip tape and we are finalizing the deal with the wheels by the end of this week. I think we have also secured a graphic by Wes Humpston for the decks.
To break this down to its' simplest form:
1-We are buying 50 complete skateboards to give away to needy kids. 2-As a member, you can pay for one or more of these decks or you can join with another member & between the 2 or 3 of you pay for one of the decks. 3-The catch is that you will not get the deck; what you get is the satisfaction of knowing that your gift will make it into the hands of a needy kid. 4-We, as distributors, will photo document the events and post pictures so that members can see what we did with their money. 5-THIS TRANSACTION IS A SALE NOT A DONATION. There is no tax write off. You are buying a skateboard and we are giving it away for you. 6-None of us involved are making any money whatsoever on this transaction. In fact, most of us have already or will shortly be spending our own time, energy & money to make this happen.
Here's the current list of distributors and we still would like one more volunteer to make it an even five. We are hoping to spread this around the continent so if we could get someone in TX that would be great. Rich Fosmire will handle the distribution on the West Coast (southern CA). Frank Molina (albertstrange) will handle the DC, MD, VA area. Jeff Snavely (alvacollector) will handle the Chicago, IL area. Rob Levene (desert-s) will handle the Florida area.
There are $2.00 S&B buttons being sold by x1124x and the funds are all going to help cover any extra costs on this. Many thanks to Scott for the effort and assistance on this project.
I can also keep a public or private list of all members that buy a deck. Members choice.
Right now it looks like we need to raise approx. $2000.00. That's about $40.00 per complete. Please do not send any funds yet. I should have the final totals by the end of the week. I'm posting this now to get a feel for how many members would be interested in participating in this project.
You can email Jeff or myself directly with any other questions or suggestions at jeff@6100designs.com or albertstrange@yahoo.com
Thanks and best regards, Frank
...give the gift of skateboarding for the holidays!

Army Banks Neglected Item

I'm sorry I forgot: The banks run all the way up to the bridges and the only bridge where I got a clean shot had a warning for maintenance vehicles indicating 11'0". I recall one of the plank owners of this ditch referencing 14' so it might be different sizes in different spots.

OK, Here's solid info not culled from my memory of days long past but from my eyeballs and a flashlight last night. I will present multiple options.
For the manly types: Head East from I17 to the Cave Creek Park (not CC Recreation Area) about about 1/2 mile. Parking aplenty at the recreation area. The canal is all rocks and dirt at this point. Walk south in the ditch bottom and this should get you to the Northern most point of the Army Banks. I did not verify this but I plan to do a full Iron Man on this premise soon, following the entire length of the ditch.
Number 2: Head East from I17 on Cactus about 1/4 mile to the Cave Creek Recreation area (not CC Park). This is the grand entrance with the dedication plaque and everything from whence the banks derived their name. This is directly across the street from Phoenix Fire Station #33. Parking aplenty at the park. Hop the fence and ride.
For those who prefer more discretion: East from I17 on Cactus to Sand Lilly. South on Sand Lilly. There will be a green belt between Sand Lilly and the banks. There are small slots for maybe 5 cars each along the green belt almost as if they were put there for the skaters. Park, hop, enjoy.
The Peoria approach: East on Peoria from I17. It's between Corporate Park on one side of the street and Corporate Center on the other. Park in one of the ample parking lots, hop, enjoy.
With all of these approaches you have gone too far if you make it to 19th Avenue.
There is an approach further to the South in the industrial area but I don't recommend it.
This should clear up any confusion due to crappy directions I recently gave anyone. I will be doing fence peeks in the next couple of days to verify the status of historic pools.

In my defense, I have not skated these ditches in several years. However, I need to apologize for blowing chunks all over the directions I gave Northrop. I had time last night so I went out in the truck with a flashlight and map and here's how it looks: The Cervix just isn't where I told you it would be. Don't bother, as the Army Banks have everything you want in a multiple mile stretch and the last I saw Cervix was a short section. I believe that it is a piece of the Cave Creek Canal or the Arizona Canal. If yo find a huge canal with vertical walls then you have found the Arizona Canal. It connects to The Cave Creek Canal at approx. 23rd Ave. and Mountain View. This is my apology and my expanded directions to the Army Banks will follow shortly.

Northrop: Verify that you got the directions to the Army Banks and the Cervix that I sent you via e-mail.
Palmer: Is there anyone else visiting AZ? I can hardly believe GMBII is visiting out here and doesn't want to hit any of the natural features. I will gladly forward directions to any of the historic pools or any ditches. I do not forward directions regarding new meat pools.

40th St. North of Bell Rd. Concrete Disciples has this in their web directory. If you're not a local make sure you realize that this is STREET and not AVENUE. 40th Ave. would put you in W. PHX or Glendale far from where you want to be.
