GlenD, Hey bro, I'd head up there to skate one day before summer comes. Glen Smith's knee is healed and he's skating again. Let us know when.........

Until I can fix the links, just browse through these folders...

they're all there.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my website is 50% back online. You can view all the pics down to Florida, but I still have to fix a lot of the links, especially all the Indian School and other NM pics. Here's the new url:
http://www.unm.edu/~nrosen/k-lee/
That should be the url for a while, hopefully.
Be on the lookout for the rest of the old pics plus a few new ones by the end of the week.

Actually, its really long urls (like the one 20-some posts back) or large images that screw it up. Another post or two and this page'll look OK again...

why does it...

because people want to write long SUBJECTS instead of putting it in the REVIEW box. Keep the subject short so the page formats OK.

Hey Glen,
That looks a heck of alot like the V-Bowl that I grew up skating. I would say that it is but just in case it isn't I won't. It was our local ditch when I was very young (10 yrs old) My older brothers would skate it. I liked the section down a bit that whipped up steep so we could axle stall and such. Have you been checking it lately?

I just got hooked onto GPS treasure hunts (see geocaching.com for details) and was wondering if anyone thought about posting ditch and bank coordinances and starting a similar treasure hunt for skate-spots.

Stubbs just brought this to my attention. I guess the UNM computer people cleared out my drive space. They do that to all recent graduates. Isn't that considerate? Anyway, sometime this week, hopefully in the next day or two, I'll relaunch the Directory in the drive space belonging to the lovely Nyah. I'll let you all know when it's back up and running. I should have enough stuff for an update as well. Got some ideas to play around with...

And watch you head on those low bridges! a helmet wouldn't hurt. I saw a local almost knock himself out on one last year. Not to mention the metal grates. Rock spitting wheels are a must.

Boys - don't start flappin' yer jaws until you spend some time on the 'crete. It's gonna take more than high-end gear to win this event.
Get here early and put on some pads is all I can suggest.

Props to Palmer and his bros for stepping it up so that ABQ will be a sick event! Bummed that I can't make it because ditch riding and banked slalom are my forte. But, I am sending skatelegend Jay Smith in my place to represent Skaterbuilt along with Thomas and Wahl. Look out BLR, Jay is F!#king fast and hungry, Jeff Thomas is ballz-out berzerk, and SillyBilly definetly can take the event if he wants to-and he wants to. So, bring all ya' got boyz......

I've done it with Krypto 70's but since then I've moved up to ABEC 83mm flywheels. I've never had any trouble. The road is a little rough in places but compared to Tabor the slope is nothing. Post on this board if anyone wants to go sometime.

Ben, I sure dont know of any ditches. I just hit up Tabor and Zoo Bomb. I will be sure to let you know if I find any. I am trying to figure out a way for the city to let people ride the new west side tunnel project perhaps for just one day before it is sealed and filled with water.

Hey all, I've been asked by some of you to recommend hotels near the Indain School ditch. Here's a list I was able to come up with. Some of them (the ones on Hotel Circle) are near Los Altos Skate Park and have been used by racers in the past. The others are also nearby, on Central Avenue (Route 66) in case you're looking for a more historical/cheaper/crackhead friendly hotel to stay at:
Guesthouse Inn 10331 Hotel Ave. NE 505-271-8500
Ramada Inn 25 Hotel Circle NE 505-271-1000
Days Inn 10321 Hotel Ave. NE 505-275-3297
Howard Johnson 15 Hotel Circle NE 505-296-4589
Freeway Inn 75 Hotel Circle NE Albuquerque, NM 87123 - 1202 (505) 296-5465
Deluxe Inn & Suites 12901 Central N E ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87123 - 3027 (505) 294-7515
American Motor Inn 12999 Central Ave Ne Albuquerque, NM 87123 (505) 298-7426
Comfort Inn East 13031 Central NE ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87123 - 3029 (505) 294-1800
Travelodge 13139 Central Av N E ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87123 - 3031 (505) 292-4878
Econo Lodge 13211 Central Av N E ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87123 - 3033 (505) 292-7600
Motel 6 Albuquerque East (cheapest I think...) 13141 Central Albuquerque, NM (505) 294-4600
That should be more than enough to choose from.
Also, some of you have been asking about ideal board/wheelbase/wheel choices for the race. Fortunately, Indian School isn't nearly as demanding on your equipment as theBear tends to be. Most of the locals use Dregs pintails and supertankers to bomb this ditch. Anything from a GS-style slalom board with a wheelbase in the lower 20" range to a supertanker with a wheelbase in the upper 30" range would work nicely. Flexy, stiff, cambered, concave, flat, etc... They all work at the School. The fastest wheels in these ditches seems to be Flywheels, 83mm in particular. But Avilas have been known to win a ditch race as well (Hackett @ Harper '03). I think the most important part of the setup needs to be turny trucks. It is REALLY hard to pump this ditch on slow turning trucks like a Randal DH. RII's would be much better suited to get max speed. The details are up to you. Personally, I will be riding a BOZI Mad Bomber II (not the new M-Core, but the older, deeper concave model) with 180mm Seismics and Gumballs. A kicktail is not necessary, but some of you may find it helpful, especially if you usually ride with one. Feel free to drop me an e-mail with any other questions. Between myself, Palmer, GI Joe, and the rest of the crew, I'm sure we can answer any questions you may have and help make this the GNARLIEST race of the year.
