I'm looking for info on a ditch that is located near the Rt. 78 and Rt.22 junction near the PA and New Jersey border. Anyone know of this ditch and directions on how to get to it? THanks.

I made the trip from Vegas to ABQ to see the race and check out the ditches that I've heard so much about. I arrived late and woke up early ( before the sun ) to skate the ditch. What a blast - smoooth and fast. Then I hung around to watch the big boys skate it. I hung out at one cone and watched how the different styles carved and ripped around it - awesome stuff. Very impressive to see. Maybe next year I'll enter the race so I can go to Palmer's for some of that fresh brewed brew.

Deep down inside I felt bad that the locals were ripping so hard. I took my runs extra slow yesterday at Indian School so that most of the racers that didn't DQ were able to walk away and say "Wow, I beat a local!" Ain't I kind? 8^)

Ditch Session

GlenD,
The ditch was very rough on the bottom..It had boot prints in the concrete. After a few times we figured out a good fast line. But not nearly as fast or as smooth as the Indian School Ditch. The softest wheel I rode was an 84duro Gumball. Chicken had a softer wheel. We started with harder duros. It was definetly worth taking the time to skate. It was endlessly long. We never found out just where it ended. There were some fun sections near the bridges that you could roll into from the top. We were on some proto 44" boards. Really just dialing things in for ABQ. A shorter board setup with soft wheels would make for a very fun session if you perfer berts and boneless tricks instead of your standard long board carve session. There was a hole in the fence just as you said there would be. Great directions. Thanks again. I will be going back again.

Did a little fine tuning on Sunday in the ditch that Glenn D posted. Thanks Glenn. Chicken and I appreciate it. It was fun! The Indian School is butter compared that one!
Also want to say thanks to 'The Marshall' and the rest of the ABQ guys for putting together another ditch race. No doubt this will be a great weekend! Really looking forward to skating a variety of locations as well as the race itself.

I just wanted to let everyone know that, although the ditch directory isn't back 100% just yet, all the links down to and INCLUDING the Indian School links have been fixed. I'm changing the code to make a server change in the future not such a hassle. The directory will get a complete overhaul and a new look sometime in the next few weeks, after the race, but hopefully before the Bear.

I don't care how many times I skate the Wedge; I just can't get past the fact that it is now promoted by the city as a recreational feature. Every time I see a cop headed down towards the Wedge I have to stop myself from running down and warning everyone that's skating.

Lansdowne is not a ditch but it's a 70's bowled/snakerun/reservoir that pretty much meets the criteria. The cement has also been patched-up in certain areas and has new speed lines with the addition of some grindable cement curbs.(ala parking blocks)This place is a gathering point for oldschoolers and a place for oldschoolers to pass the torch to the new dogs. This day will be an all-out soul-skate expression session and kind of an east coast oldschool reunion of sorts. It's also Andrew Wahl's, AKA sk8librarian's, AKA Oldschool Andrews 40th Birthday Blowout! Come one, come all!
Eric
P.S.-You can find directions to Lansdowne by doing a search on most search engines by simply typing in Lansdowne Skatepark or checkout sk8parklist.com

I use a set of old 65mm/80a Kryptos for riding ditches. They are great...smooth and fast. The one drawback is not really being able to throw bert slides like I can with a harder duro...

Is anyone out there riding ditches that have the grated surface? If so, what wheels are you riding? My 99A Rock Blocks are not cutting it for sure. I've got some 67mm Vision Big Wheels in 97A but I think those are still too hard and I think no matter what I use they're going to get hosed on the first session. Are the grated ditches worth the hassle or should I just let it blow? It looks like someone dragged a rake on the surface before the crete cured. I'm almost thinking that if the same section were sessioned on a chronic basis that all of the little extrusions would break off and get swept away.

When you all get the valley tour dates set up, shoot Rooney or me and E... lets hook up. He's in that area and I'll drive down to see you all (we can even hit some of the local thrift shops if your so inclined, cause there are a few killer ones!) HR
