GBMII & Low...and all health care professionals;
I said when I could, I would "come out on my own"...which only means that it will NOT be just for the race, and runnin' it cold. I would NEVER run any NM ditch alone...might as well snorkel with sharks alone. No, when I do it again, I'll pull whatever locals I can off of their couches and show me the way. Before I leave this planet, I will have a complete run on El Oso (hopefully on video), and then leave it alone and go skate IS or other NM ditches for fun and not just survival.
I also said I'm not afraid to go it again...I did NOT say that it wasn't scary to ride. I also ride motorcycles, and to not "be scared" or to lose respect for the risk is utter folly. Macho gets you hurt or killed. I was fortunate not to have been hurt worse than what I was. My tailbone still aches after too long sitting.
hehe...you guys must have thought my brain was still affected by last time. Only on Full Moon Tuesdays.
The really cool thing is that you guys really care. ==SNIFF==

Having been a "racer" for most of my life (skateboards, motorcycles, bicycles, big wheels or whatever) I understand what BooB is saying, but I don't agree. I view the race as the excuse to have a killer weekend. I've only entered one event ever, but I've been around a few of them and I think the ditch play and just groovin' with the crew is the best part!
Hey, Whether it's the Bear or any other ditch-i don't even care. I'll be there this year.

Boo Boo; I'm not really sure what you are suggesting....
Should we change the course or change our approach? Or should we change the venue?
That's it! Let's move the Bear!!!
Tell you what - Let's move the race to Mama Bear and see who really has balls.

"Try approaching the thing as a racer, not a skater out to have some fun at a race."
Wow, I've been doing it wrong all along! I have lots of fun at all the races I attend, and I'm not about to let my placing (usually in the high 'teens) dampen my spirits. Maybe I should take it super seriously and get angry at the world when I don't win. Then I won't have anything to complain about!
Honestly though, I didn't feel like I was whining. I was just curious if the course was going to change at all, to take away the home advantage of the locals that run that course all year long. Most slalom events that are held on an annual basis not only change the course, but sometimes even the hill it's held on! I wasn't looking for an advantage for myself, I was just wondering if Joe was going to change it up to avoid the monotony of running the EXACT same course year after year.
Screw the Bear, let's go have a tight banked slalom race out at the Rio Bravo ditch! No one's done that before.

So, I guess all you guys who want the bear course changed are tired of winning the race, eh? if you are not, then I suggest you stop trying to change the course to be more fun, and concentrate on WINNING. If you are not winning the race, then you have very little to cry about. Winning is what keeps the event fresh. Not moving the cones. Try approaching the thing as a racer, not a skater out to have some fun at a race.
You guys in Albuquerque have all year to run the ditches and do whatever you want for fun. This is a RACE. If you are not winning, then figure out what you have to do to win. That is what racing is all about. Try it. It will make it more fun for you and everyone else involved.
I just had another thought. If you are one of the guys who comes in 18th, 25th or whatever, I don’t think you are going to be helped by having a tougher course anyway. Slower guys like us actually benefit from an easier course.
Well, I guess I’ll just leave this post anonymous so you won’t all throw rocks at me later.
Peace

Running the trannies from the opposite side is much harsher, especially the one leading up to what would be cones #2 and #4. Lowrie, CW, have you tried it before? I've got my ideas about how to switch it up. I've been jumping to switch at cone #3. I guess that would be asking alot though, so I'll try and keep it closer to gnarly than crazy.

Dont know if I'm coming to the bear this year or not, but, how about 4 runs, 2 on one side , then 2 on the other, best 1 run from each side combined to crown the winner? No Favorites, no complaining?

Don't ever hit the bear on your own, if you would've been there solo that day you wouldn't be talking today! Don't say you weren't scared, or aren't now, I talked to you before you dropped in and the last thing I said was "don't be scared, stiffin up them knees" Your knees were shaking profusely and that's why they gave out. anyway have fun, next time you come down I'll sk8 that f#@%k*r with ya

Steve - You better be scared if you're gonna run the Bear. If you ain't scared (like everyone else) we're gonna be scraping your brains off the transition again. Nobody takes that drop without a tinge of fear.

Joe your right no matter what I'll bitch just for the fun of it... Like Arab! I was just sayin what Hackett called you out on last year, you remember? He said you can't run the same course, you have to change it up. We'll go out there and make a runway from the other side to change it up. let me know

Hey Lowrie, the Team event was last week, and you since weren't a Player, I don't see why you're complaining about it now. Next up Race the Bear and beat Hackett and his Bear Slayer. If I decide to change the course at the Bear it's unlikely to be the one you want. Announcing what that change would be is even more likely to generate whining and whimpering over the next month leading up to it. So just take your chances on whether it will be enough fun for you to join us, and just for kicks go try and run it from the other side. Switch or Sober, it's a RUSH!

I was curious if we were gonna start from the otherside too. No telling with G.I. Joe, he set up the same old course for everyone to practice at the indian school race. If your not gonna change it Joe, Count me OUT. The same thing over and over again got old last year, No, George, the only locals that will be sober will be YOU, Palmer, K-Lee, Mark, and Maybe Chris. Joe is not a local so he does not count... Have Fun, I didn't start skateboarding to be on a TEAM! If that were the case I would've played football!

Will I take one of the first runs?
Unfortunately, not this year. Life and schedule got in the way this time around. I'm still gonna get 'back on the bear', but without the memory of the crash, I really don't have any fear of runnin' it again. I'll be back on my own time when I can get the lines & trannies better. Until then, give my best to the paramedics.
Will Cowboy Cody?
No. Banned from NM racing for a year according to GI Joe...and rightfully so, from what I've read. Gotta keep the NM venues open and free to ride, and any threat to that freedom must be met with all due diligence.

HELLLZ YEAH!!!! That day ROCKED! Even all road rashed up, when we got out at the top, I saw Palmer jump for his helmet, I started to wish I had mine. Luckily the rains had it clean, and that wind was straight GNARLY! Scared as hell, no pads, barely able to stop ourselves(except Tim, he jumped off into the grass, didn't know what to do) It was GREAT! The best time ever!
