I'm in hard.

I'd love to be able to actually participate in a banked slalom event. One question though - is is gonna be a wigglefest???? That seems to be essential to anything that has the word "slalom" attached to it.

Keep it open, keep it fast. Just making the course should take precedence over our urge for survival.... guts=glory

GBMII, you should know better than that. You pulled it off at Indian School, imagine how much easier it would be at Rio Bravo. Guess I'LL have to do it. Is anyone opposed to the stopwatch method? Hey Joe, can I borrow your timer? I have about 40 cones to play with, anyone got some to add to the mix? I'll start setting a course this week.

just to the north of the large body of water is another pool, shaped like a truncated triangle. to the west (in the missing point of the triangle) is a large, steeply banked reservoir which you can see as light coloured concrete.
access is difficult, you have to come down the railway lines from the east and approach from the south. many spiky railings await you. i havnt skated this place for at least 10 years. it may well be a bust, especially if BNFL still leave their atomic waste flasks lying around the railway sidings. i remember skating there and looking at the brats from the estate hammering on the flasks valves with bricks, but in the current climate they will probably have security (i hope).
dont know if its still there, but there was some truly ancient skate graffiti one one of the banks too.

A ridable ditch in Portsmouth. Cool. I live in Norfolk so if you ever need anyone else to ride with I know me and two other locals that would ride. Drop me an email and let me know more.

Ditch in Portsmouth, Virginia...
On 8/10/2004 Ryan 'VA' wrote in from United States  (66.239.nnn.nnn)

I found a ditch in Portsmouth, behind a job site I was working at. 3-5ft tall mellow walls that roll into a smooth, flush 3ft or so transistion, surface looks smooth, i didn't get a good luck but the transistions probably need to be sweeped and the weeds on the outside growing in need to be clipped... This ditch should stay fairly dry year 'round, after these past two weeks of bad weather, and that little bit of that rain we got from the hurricane that hit Carolina...she was bone dry. I am going to go ride her soon, as soon as one of my friends can feel my stoke and make that trip to skate it. If you want to ride it, or want directions...drop me an email. Rio Bravo
On 8/10/2004 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (129.24.nnn.nnn)

Rio Bravo ditch is one of my new favorites. It isn't all that tall or deep, but it's smooth and the transitions are pretty nice. The best thing I like about it is that it's on a pitch and is very pumpable for speed. In my opinion, Rio Bravo ditch would be the ideal place for a tight banked slalom race, the opposite of what we run at the Bear. Small and tight, but not slow and boring. Anyone got pics?

Thanks to the NM crew
On 7/30/2004 snoball wrote in from United States  (65.35.nnn.nnn)

Apologies to the webmasters but I didn't really know where else to put this and since it's mainly to the NM crew...you know, where all the great ditches are...and most excellent people too..:

Kaylee & Nyah, JC & Sherry, Rob & Michelle, Lowrie, Sharon...I just recieved the sympathy card sent and signed by you all and I appreciate your gesture and well wishes so much. The recent
loss of my father has been very difficult and I miss him terribly, but I am so happy we were able to come out there. He was/is the light of my life, my hero, and I'm very proud to be able to say he is my father. Your thoughts are particulary meaningful since you met him and he, you. He was very impressed by each of you and if I mentioned some event coming up he would ask me to convey the message,"I already know they'll have fun so tell them watch their damned headbones!" ;-)

Thanks so much again NM crew, I appreciate it greatly.
