Drove by the old home ditch last spring after the JPL race was rained out. Had to snap a couple of pics. Please excuse the dark photo, it was come'n down pretty hard. There weren't any skate barriers when we rode it! There was alot of blood spilt due to these tranny's.

GlenD, please do post those pics if you find them. I was fascinated by the gnarly shots in Skateboarder Magazine in the seventies, and would love to see that place again.

That place is awesome. Bigger than the original toilet bowl and not as steep banks.
The original T-bowl was a favorite spot back when. I shot some photos of it a couple of years ago. It was very sad to see how bad it's gotten. All overgrown, and those speedbumps they put in back in '75. If I can dig up my photos I'll scan them and post them for history sake.

Mike, Did you say map?
http://www.amafca.org/images/maint.jpg
If you want I can give you a better map with directions and parking instructions, plus what to look out for and what to avoid. All the best ones are highlighted on the better map. What day do you get into town? Drop me an e-mail or give me a ring 505-242-1049. I'll hook you up.
As for a good local skate shop, NONE. I mean, there's a lot of skate shops in ABQ (like 6 or 7?), but they all suck in my opinion and they overcharge a lot. What parts do you need? Or are you just looking to maximize the skate adventure? Wanna run some banked slalom on Sunday?

A friend and I are heading to Albuquerque this weekend to skate and for the record show on sunday. We were wondering if anybody could provide a map or directions to the some of the ditches. I'm looking to leave some skin in New Mexico.
A good local skate shop to go to would be cool too.

didn't I say Sheriffs...I meant Sheriffs. They are way cooler than APD cops, and yes it's the Bernalillo County South Valley Command. Jurisdiction is one thing I know forward and backwards. AMAFCA's jurisdiction covers all ditches except the ones in Rio Rancho.

George, I haven't been to the beesh bowl in a while, but Joser said the tweekers ripped down all the shrubbery around the pool on both sides and threw it in there, along with broken glass, probably light bulbs, trash, puke, crap, whatever else there tweekers minds could think up to get back at the evil land lord that hooked them up with a place to stay. anyway I'm sure will be talkin

Isn't Rio Bravo just outside of APD's jurisdition? I was under the impression that it was "in" Bernalillo county, not Albuquerque. I could be wrong. Otherwise, wouldn't have APD been at the Rio Bravo Time Trial instead of the BernCo Sheriff's Department? Hmmmmm........

I'm interested in catching up with the Florida crew while they are here in the Desert. Thanks for the schedule George, now just TRY to stick to it, LOL!
Rio Bravo? It remains illegal to skate in or even touch a ditch in ABQ, yet 100 ft away we can go 50 mph plus legally and the Sheriff will even escort us lights flashing just for fun. ABQ logic says it's more fun to break the law and dodge the cops than to have them cheering you on. Have a great time out there whatever you're racing, I'll see you all at the Sandia All Around Sept. 25th and 26th. And Goerge, expect a REAL Slalom this year.

All Albuq heads, be on the lookout for Old Men Going Fast down Indian School, Four Hills (street) Los Altos and PALMERs on Friday. Sat AM will be Calvary and the Bear (maybe) foloowed by a trip to Trinadad. Sunday is a travel day (maybe La Cueva/Carmel/Mama Bear???? when we get back) and Monday are pool days, is the Beech still open? I heard it was boarded up but dry.

No "real" ditches in Connecticut but they did build a "bowl" in New Britain that's more like a ditch. It can be fun on a longboard - use the hillside pitch of the surrounding park to get speed for the drop-in, then surf around. There is no fun to had in this bowl with hard wheels - you'll never keep any speed through the lumpiness.

I am planning for sure to be out at the Rio Bravo ditch on this Sunday (the 5th) around noonish with some cones, a broom, some tape, and a slalom board. Anyone that wants to come out and help me set a course or discuss the potential of this race is welcome to come out. E-mail me if you want to talk about it before then.

I'd like to know as well, and would extend the swath around central CT, where I'm located. I hear that Nashua park is really nice and that's close to Boston. Not exactly what you're looking for, I guess.

GBMII, It won't be the Bear or Indian School, that's for sure. But you'll actually be skating a ditch, not wiggling, I promise. I want to set a course that encourages the pumping of the transitions (which was NOT the case at Indian School). I hope to be setting a course in the next week or two. Your input (and any ditch-skater's input for that matter) is welcomed in the setting of the course. Call me out, and I'll do the same....

I'll be in Cincinnati Sep. 8th, and would love to skate some ditches. Anyone in the area? Im also down for some pools, but I don't know how much time I'll have to get away from family. I'll also be in the Columbus and Dayton areas that weekend too. I'd love to see what Cincy has to offer. Thanks!
