Hey, Rob, Thanks for the tip about the school and Loblaws. Hopefully the rain will let up ( and the temperature rise a bit) so I can check these sites out. Thanks. Jerry

Hey, I live in Oaland and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ditches around here in the Bay Area? Right now, the only place I have to practice my berts is at the sk8parks which can be dangerous and still the terrain's not as good as a real ditch. If only I lived in SoCal then all my problems would be solved.

Funny PSR posts up about his snowboarding instructor responsibilities vs. being able to attend the Surfrider Vintage/Longboard Day. Reason being, I was getting some boards together & my vintage display will include some of my old snowboards (Snurfer & old Burtons). Thank goodness the Vans Park is indoor.

And PSR, Since you also slalom, bring a slalom board with your bank board, and have one displayed while you ride the other. It's vintage AND longboard day (this also includes slalom boards vintage & current), so you should be covered.

Bring a separate vintage board to display. Display it near other people's stuff. Zip-tie it to the chain link fence. See the info page for the event, accessable from the Contest Calendar.

O.K.,but how am I supposed to display my vintage board if I'm racing on it? Seriously,if time and money allow,I'll try to be there. However, things up Stratton way are starting to kick in,and I may be on snow instead of on ramps.

I hope all you bank riders will come out & enjoy the fun at the VAns Sk8 Park, DC. I guarantee it will be fun. Vans will let you sk8 the whole park for $5/session if you ride a longboard or vintage board to this event and for free if you bring a display of vintage boards, wheels, trucks, equipment, etc. People can also sign up to be a member of the Surfrider Foundation too. Enjoy the whole Vans sk8 park, including ollie areas and roundwall sections. Educate the post-ollie-era skaters with your pre-ollie skateboard equipment and register with Surfider in advance and you sk8 for free!!Out of towners: we may even be able to find floor space for you. We will leave the light on for you.

Don't go the sector route. The Gravity team 39" is really nice as is the Afroman Numbchuck or El Diablo Loco. Any of these can be bought at Solidskate.com, he can give you advice too.

dont' know if you have chosen yet, but personally i think gravity makes better boards. i havn't rode the sector 9, but the gravity is sweet. everyone i know that has tried to up their aggressiveness with a sector 9 has broken it. just a little word from what i have experienced. good luck!

Just a few weeks ago realized I had been riding my bike past a nice little bank almost every single day, and completely missed it- you can't really see it from the road. It's at Pape ave. public school, which is on pape and (I think) Langley- it's right before pape dead ends at a foot bridge. There's an asphalt running track, and one side is banked up to a fence, maybe a metre and a bit high- not huge but enough to have some fun with. There's a bit of gravel around, since they are reno-ing the playground, so a broom and or a sharp eye can be handy. In the same neighbourhood the Loblaw's at Broadview and Danforth just paved their parking lot and put in some sweet looking President's Choice banks...again, not huge but smooth and fresh. Haven't skated those yet, but I'm pretty lame, so my opinion may not count for much. Don't know if security is a problem at the Loblaws, but a sunday morning should work..

I'm going to be getting a new longboard for aggressive riding pretty soon but I need help deciding. I've narrowed it down to 2 boards...Sector 9 40" The Nine Fist...or Gravity 39" Team? Please tell me what you think would be best...Thanks.
