PLEASE don't mess up those lips of the Kings Ditch!!! or do so much to that ditch, that you turn it into a bust.
If you want to slide on steel, go to a plywood park. Otherwise pump harder & go faster and enjoy the feel/sound of 'crete on aluminum.

Deer Park Water Ditch (DPW Ditch) in Springfield, VA

Has anyone got the low down on this ditch in Springfield, VA? A picture of Perry and Kelly shooting the brush in the ditch can be found on Jay Wescott’s skate photo web page? The ditch is behind the Deer Park water building. From what I have been told it's long; however it needs possibly a chainsaw to clear out thorns and trees.

I actually skated the Loblaws banks last Sunday (10th) in the rain. Very smooth, steep at one end, mellower at the other. Very nice. I saw the school banks but didn't skate them. You kinda have to ride UP to hit them. Thanks for the pictures, robc. Jerry

Here's a couple pix of the banks I mentioned several posts ago: Pape ave public school is the one with the S9 deck, (it's actually Pape and Riverdale, not whatever street I said) The Loblaws bank is the far away one. I haven't actually skated that one, yet. Maybe they'll ask to see your President's Choice bank card....

When I DO make it to a park, I don't get snaked that much. I suggest being 6'2" and close to 300 lbs and looking "mean" would help. LOL

Arbutus & Riverdale

What's up with Arbutus? Back in the day, Arbutus was my ditch of choice because it was much steeper and faster than Riverdale. Frankly, the last time I skated Arbutus; it was harder to skate than Riverdale. But if I lived near Arbutus, I would fix that place up right.
Here is how:
1) Cut back the overgrowth foliage slightly down to the right if you are looking at the interstate highway. This would be similar to the original skating surface.
2) Cut back the overgrowth foliage about 150 feet up to the left. There is some cool drop offs that would be created doing that . 3) Get a bunch of chicken wire and sack-crete and fix up the transitions. I wouldn’t touch the drop offs because that is where the run off is going under the ditch.
4) Get metal edges such as an I-beam, angle iron, pipe, etc. along with some bricks and parking blocks. Next I would cement them into the top edge of the ditch. I would get creative and make some death box edges, rails for tail slides/nose blunts, and so forth.
Too bad I don’t live near Baltimore anymore. But if you got some real guts, I got big plans to make the Alexandria full pipes skateable.

that sucks, yeah see Maryland kids that have never had that type of park, know nothing on how to flow with others. see that nice line you had, happened to cross Johnny's path who has been sk8ing the same handrail for the whole session. I mean if thats what Johnny is into cool, but Johnny needs to learn. Time will change that and speaking of time, try to get there weekday early afternoon. Let me know your next MD session..are you hitting Vans next sat?

yes I did make the trip down to waldorf as well. The park was pretty cool but there were alot of stupid kids there, I went on a weekend so this didn't help the situation any. It just seemed like these kids had never been to a skatepark before. I got snaked more in one run than I did on the whole rest of the trip combined.
