FLA

Most of the ditches I've seen in Florida are small but if they're a good size they're wet. The two most skateable ditches in FLA are Kona in J-ville and the Bro Bowl down in Tampa and are both made for skating. If you find some ditches please at least send pics to the Ditch Directory.

Orlandooo...
On 5/1/2003 Jerry wrote in from (63.139.nnn.nnn)

I'll be in Orlando FLA for a few days next week. I'd love to bust out my new F13 board in a Florida ditch. The odds are slim, but does anybody know of a decent place to rip in Orlando? Thanks!

I live in northern VA, which is an exceptionally fast-growing subburb of Washington DC and isn’t particularly dry. Two of the best ditches in the area are amongst subdivisions of pre-fab “row-houses”.

Finding ditches
On 4/30/2003 Ben wrote in from (12.224.nnn.nnn)

I live in portland oregon which unluckily isn't a very dry place.
I was looking at some aerial photos and noticed some resivoirs in the mt. tabor area so I'm gonna go and check those out. If I don't find anything I can bomb down the mountan at least.
Also I don't have a car and can't easilly look outside of the city limits, how big of a problem is this gonna be? or is it likely that there will be something closer.

Ditch hunting
On 4/30/2003 K-LEE wrote in from (129.24.nnn.nnn)

Ben,
I think every area is different, but in general ditches are built where creeks, streams, and rivers used to be. Most pass under roads at one time or another, so you might drive over one from time to time. If you have a cool local or city library, you might be able to find drainage maps. They have to drain into somewhere, be it a river, lake, or ocean. Think water, where would water want to flow in your local region, and where would that flowing water need to be reinforced to keep from eroding land around it? It's not like pool hunting. It has more to do with urban development than the American dream. They're more prevelant in dry areas prone to flash flooding, hence New Mexico, Arizona, So Cal, and Texas. Where do you live?

does anyone have some tips on where/how to find ditches and banks. I keep seeing pictures online of people carving
ditches and I think I'm gonna go crazy if I can't find something.

The bear is in great condition, sk8ed it yesterday. Props to Mike for shoveling out the rocks and dirt at the top, and in the bottom. The roll in will be SICK! All the ditches are pretty clean here, we went on a tour yesterday and will be following up today. For those planning on coming down for the contest, bring your pads or feel the wrath of the ditch witch! There fun, if you haven't been down here to albucrazy sign up, and come down they'll blow your mind. K-Lee call me out if you see this today 363 0005

On 4/26/2003 ERIC 31 wrote in from (204.31.nnn.nnn)

I'm not trying to turn it into a bust. It's so high profile being next to the freeway and all. Tons of graffiti and parking blocks show that plenty of people have skated there.

I love ditches and am always looking for more.

Good News - Bad News : The Bear
On 4/25/2003 GBMII wrote in from (143.183.nnn.nnn)

Good news/bad news about the Bear.

I rode there last nite;

The BAD NEWS is that they are grading the area adjacent to the upper sections and it has thrown a bunch of rocks and gravel and s#@! into the ditch, at the steep section.

The GOOD NEWS is that it will be cleaned out by the time all the guys racing for second place get here.

And the REALLY GOOD NEWS is that if they end up paving the new grading, we'll have a huge push/take off/starting area at the top. AWOOOOO. (as if pushing along the top isn't fast enough)

I will be racing and have a couple of couches available for one or two dirtbags. e-mail me if you're interested.

GBMII

I-5 Ditch
On 4/21/2003 Mario wrote in from (148.87.nnn.nnn)

That ditch will never become a bust. Giving up its location isn't going to get it closed down or anything. I drove by it yesterday (exit 253 I think, right before the Stockdale exit), they put a 1/4 pipe in the ditch to make things more interesting. I skated it once, it's small and not that interesting. But it's the only thing on I-5 worth skating (don't even bother with Los Banos!).

San Luis Obispo Ditch
On 4/20/2003 steve wrote in from (65.169.nnn.nnn)

Meadow Park is built for long skateboards, it seems. If you start at the big playground part where the transients chill, you head downhill on some nice paths all the way to some drainage ditches with mellow banks at the end. They haven't dried out yet, though. Maybe in May.

Uvas Dam
On 4/20/2003 steve wrote in from (65.169.nnn.nnn)

The dam is still there. I haven't been there, so I don't know the condition. If it's anything like Guadalupe or Almaden dams, you should bring a broom! Uvas Reservoir is south of San Jose on... um... it's the road that goes from the Almaden Valley past Calero Reservoir to 152 near Gilroy. It's called McKean on the north end. It is conveniently located within a short drive of Santa Teresa Park! (if anyone still downhills there)
