It's been years since I've skated it, but when I was in college, I used to hit a pretty fun mini-ditch behind Denny's in Berea, KY. Anyone know if it's still there? If it is, is it still cool or have age and weather taken its toll?

The WFSA is organizing a Longboard Freestyle contest as part of its events program at the ASR show in San Diego this Sept. Please pass this on to any interested parties. I will need assistance to run this event, like judges, sponsors and an MC,..a good way to get into the ASR show for free!
The next No Cal flatland jam will be August 16th at Rengsdorff Park in Mt.View, starts around noon, a pot luck item is encouraged. See you all there for another day of fun!

Hey HC,
I saw your website the other day when I was looking around for info, sounds like a cool org, saw a couple of other spots listed, the wave, the hook and berryessa, do you know where these are and what they are(I am really jonesing for ditches/banks that are not too small and not to death like uvas).I plan on heading out to uvas to sweep all the glass into avoidable areas so I can take that out of the mix, still if you fall there without pads you are hamburger(me and my buddys used to skate this place alot in the late '80s and I have left some of my skin there!as I need to work and function I will definetely be wearing pads there now). The pit and pit2 are ditches that are in the south county area that were really fun, the first one if memory serves correctly was about 50 yards long 3 to 6 feet walls with a hip, the second one was about the same length about 6 ft walls with an area near the bridge that went to near vert, back sometime in the late 80's-early ninties, the town that these are in poured concrete with rocks imbedded into it, wish they would have left our spots alone and let us do our thing like they appear to do in Tejas and New Mexico. I'll let you know when I am ready for uvas, hopefully we can find some mellower spots to get together and skate at, them old loading dock banks around SJ still in affect?
Talk to you soon, Dano

Howdy, Hey Andre', yes it's true; I'm a BIG fan of the Webb Shogo Kubo truck(now known as the 10" Pool Truck). They work really well for me and how I ride.(surf-style according to some folks...) They turn exceptionally well, which is what I needed in a truck; and they are super stable even when ridden loose, as Mr.Stubbs has advised you! However, for each rider, there is the "magic" set-up; the perfect combination of deck, trucks and wheels that gives you not only "the ride" but the confidence to try things you haven't before and pull them off. When I first put my Webb Shogo's on my Skaterbuilt Pig, with BDS Dub Cons, I KNEW it was the RIDE for me. It just "clicked". I have Webb Shogo's on 3 decks and the new Webb Mike Smith's on another, and I swear by Webbs. I love 'em. what can I say? Oh yeah, Vinnie Lopez is a hell of a nice guy and is super enthusiastic about his trucks and is very interested in hearing feedback from riders about his trucks and how they perform. I will offer my advice that you give the Shogo's a try, and I know you won't be disappointed. Good Luck to you with your set-up! Keep us posted. Chris Olden p.s.- I'm NOT a Webb Team Rider!! LOL

To each his own, Stubbs... hehehe. Actually, it would (will) be a blast to photograph skaters (much like yourself, hint hint) ripping at ditches, parking garages, downhill and what not. Photographing chicks is just a nescessary evil. (yeah, right!)
Here`s what we`ll do: let`s try to have a session somewhere, and I`ll bring my camera along. Can you see it, a picture of you in the cover of the next concrete wave?
It can`t hurt to dream, can it? And anyway, I`m not half bad with camera... Though I tend to be more of a documentary shooter, you know, trying to promote a greater understading of the world..
Let me know if you are in...

My Trackers turn great. The other trucks you listed turn great too. I think Mr. Olden is a fan of the Shogo WEBB. I just love the Trackers though. Randall is another great one. Whatever you choose, just make 'em surfy loose and you'll be fine.

Hello all,
I am a 35 year old gettting back on the board after not skating for several years.I found this site and I have been drooling over those new mex ditches, fully stoked again.I checked out the ditch directory and saw the nor cal classic Uvas, took a run out there today, lots of beer bottle glass, need to bring a broom next time, probably just as well because I do not think I am quite ready for it yet.I am looking for mellower(not wall angles, the downhill thing)ditches and banks to get my chops back before hitting uvas and other more intense spots.Anyone out there remember the pit and the pit2?Something along the lines of either of these would really be perfect(both of these had cement and rocks poured into the bottom of them making them unskateable back in the day, bastards!).

Stubbs, I can't go tonight. I wish I could though. The deal is, I'm a photography student (or a photographer, as far as that goes), and tonight I`m going to another photographers swimsuit shoot/pool party, to check out babes and do some networking...
I haven't gone to the funnel yet, but will try tomorrow. I`m just waiting for my bro`s day off, so he can come with me. Thanks for the input on the set ups. One more question (I`m hopeless, If you let me I`ll ask a thousand questions): How do the trackers turn? I`m considering getting something like a dart, or a webb 187 Shogo Kubbo(?) truck. You know, my bro has an R2, my friend has a seismic, I have indys, so I want to try something different...

Ditch set ups

It varys with me, just depends on how I feel. At the Chute I have ridden the Big Worm with Dart 219's and Flashbacks as well as 65mm No Skoolz. Also the el Diablo Loco works well at 42" for some quicker turns but my favorite set up is the Numbchuck with Six Tracks and 65mm No Skoolz, 88a. I can easily hit 20 or 25mph in that ditch with that set up. And that upper part, right above the curve? Finally ollied up there and wheelied across for a roll back into the ditch! I was stoked. My favorite part of the Chute is the bottom with all that back and forth action. Tuck knee carves all the way down.
Did you make it to the Funnel, Andre? I would suggest unconventional thinking for set ups there. I shredded some 75a Flashbacks there in one session. That duro is way too soft. Last time I rode there I took two set ups: Big Worm as listed above and that is always fun. The other was a Numbchuck set up with Dart 184's, 83mm/75a FLYWHEELS and about 2" of RISERS!!!!!! Man, I was flying around the Funnel at top speed. Even got figure 8 carves for the first time going around the funneled part and carving back over to the banked burm side up top. I suggest some kind of set that you can get some form of slalom type action at the Funnel. Wiggly loose trucks help a lot. Call me again if you head out there sometime. Planning a downtown Dallas parking garage assault for around 8:30 or 9:00 pm tonight if you are interested. Just call that number I gave you, Andre.

K-Lee, that does help.
I was thinking of a pig deck too, just wanted to make sure. The chute is the only ditch I`ve ridden so far (and I already want a ditch deck... it`s contagious, man) And I think R2`s are the way to go...
Soon I`ll try my friends gravity miny carve, set up with seismics. Whatever trucks I go with in the end, 180 is the way to go, right? I would want 70-76mm wheels in those decks, for sure.
Yeah, I`ll be building a deck soon... By the way, is birch solid enough for a pig deck ?(I`ll ask in the homemade section)
Andre
Hey Stubbs, what do you ride in ditches like the chute?

Ditch board for Andre

Hey Andre, A good ditch setup depends on the size, shape, and speed of the ditch you are riding. For smaller trick style ditches, I'd get something like the new Afroman Hustler setup with Indy 215's and some Bones Bombers 68mm 85a. For ditches any bigger and faster than that, and you might want to move to RIIs and Flashbacks on a Gravity-type board. I find that concave and kicktails help a lot in the ditches, but I do ride boards like my Bozi Mad Bomber II and the Wedgenose Pintail in the bigger faster ditches like Indian School and the Bear. If your ditch is smooth and long, slalom boards even work good, depending on the transition. But, for a general all around ditch board, I'd suggest something like the Hustler or a Comet Pro-Flex, something like that. Hope that helps.
