Mike, I Got home from work and the wife said "Oh this came for you."
SWEET! 2 copies of the Jay Smith issue!
The guys were all joking that I should dig on you for the flipped 2 page Cherry Hill full park shot... but I just can't do it! The pic is great and brings back soo many great memories. I'm just sorry you never got to skate what was one of the best parks ever built.

A photo feature of long-time pros' decks. Say Cab or DP's decks (graphics) from their 1st pro model to their current. Might be interesting to see how shapes have changed or not...

Michael,
certainly you could do an article on people who have passed away. Plenty of TSJ articles are done on such people.
IE. Percy and Torger. Photos, friends, family, you must have the resorces to do a feature.
The younger ones need to see this and us older ones would love the trip.
BTW more slalom...

Kenny, I noticed the glitch also, but it was the snake-run and the right/left turn that clued me in first (plus the kidney/roll-in vs. drop-in option).
I went to the website, and if I'm not mistaken, the originals are bass-ackwards, too.

Not that I'm putting down 100 Dead shows or the effects of psychotropics... ;-)

Cherry hill pics, thanks for the cool mag
On 12/9/2003 Kenny Mollica wrote in from (67.26.nnn.nnn)

Hey Michael,
THe new mag looks great. Quality keeps going up and thats great.
I went to Cherry Hill once in 1978 (8th grade)and I must say the place rocked hard. I did notice something in the article though. Did you know that some of the slides were printed "reverse". It was fooking with my mind when I looked at the pics.
The black and white picture under the Stacy Peralta shot is printed correct. The right hand kidney is in the foreground and the lefthand kidney (coping in the shallow end)is next to it.
One page 62, the 3rd shot down on the left side shows a right hand kidney, that is actually the left hand kidney-the shot was printed backwards.
The shot of the keyhole and the two page spread also seem to be printed backwards, or in reverse.
At first I thought the 25 years and 100 Grateful Dead shows messed up my memory, but after looking at the video clips of Cherry Hill in Skateboard Madness, I am sure I am correct.
Did anyone else notice this?
Michael, there is no writing or graphics in these shots to indicate which way was the correct way to print it. By no means am I accusing you of any neglect. Putting out a quality mag has got to be one of the hardest things in the world to do and YOU ARE DOING GREAT. Your/our mag rules and has struck a major cord with thousands of skaters. You found us and we thank you for your hard work and dedication.
I would love to see the image of the whole Cherry Hill shot reprinted in your mag, or in the Calander you mentioned in our email. Can you do that? Or can we purchase the shot from the photographer.
Maybe the Dead shows screwed my memory, but has anyone else mentioned the pics to you?

Kenny

Letters to the editor
On 12/9/2003 Haim R. wrote in from (80.230.nnn.nnn)

It's my estimation that your letter has a chance of getting published. I recall a letter to the editor in CW not too long ago from an unhappy reader who threw his mag in the trash and canceled his subscription because of offensive content.

I also expect that the quality and content of CW, which has been improving with each issue, will continue to get better as Mr. Brooke is now able to devote his full-time efforts to the mag. As has been stated in this forum in the past, facilitating change is one of the goals here. But change is not always a quick process.

yes, steve of floridaskater.com is on deck for an interview

mike weed, I defintely want!

the rate of sell through on the newsstand in Europe is almost double when compared to North America. for every 10 copies in the US and Canada sitting in shelf, 7 can be shredded....sad. Barnes and Noble work hard trying to increase the sell through rate to 6...

In Europe, they love buying mags at the newsstand. All I can say is way to go MR. Now, let's see if we can get ollie carrying the mags : )

i may be well off the mark with this comment as i don't live in the US and have never been in a B&N store, but similar large chains in the UK (WH Smiths etc) have a magazine ordering/reservation service wherby if they can get it they'll get each issue in and hold it for you. certainly would be worth asking at your local to see if they offer the service.

I was stoked to see the interview with Mr. Logan! My only complaint is that the interview was too short! I'd love to pose a few questions to the man- what did your routines consist of on clay wheels, describe early clay-wheel bank riding, do any of the Logans still skate, etc. Uh, maybe if yer talkin' to him, Michael, you could pass along my email address??? And maybe you could track down Mike Weed for a Q&A?

Interview
On 12/9/2003 Carlos Galvis wrote in from (12.149.nnn.nnn)

How about a Steve Marinak Interview? This guy has managed to directly or indirectly motivate old friends and acquaintances to start skating again, founded the Florida Skater Hall of Fame, Organized the Florida Skater Old School Reunion, Founded the Old School Skatepark Series, and even helped to start a mass addiction to Clausen Kosher dill slices (Lucky Sk8 Pickles). All because of his creation of the Floridaskater.com website. Besides that he does really killer Berts!!!!!!!!

Barnes and Noble
On 12/9/2003 michael brooke wrote in from (209.29.nnn.nnn)

Here is the "shocking details" direct from my magazine distributor COAST TO COAST...

Barnes and Noble removed a few shops from their list because the magazine was not selling. I guess three copies were placed in Orlando and all were returned...stuff like that...

They don't give you many opportunities to screw up...They track things for several issues then pull...welcome to the world of magazine distribution.

As I said, we will fix this problem. We want local, core skate shops to be a part of the mag and to that end we offer a great program. Have shops contact me.

As for Barnes and Noble, they will continue to monitor the situation and put more copies out where they are selling and remove stores where they are not.

I wish I could print 40,000 and just hand em out!
