While's we're talking about TVS, does any one know what the wheelbase measure on their website is exactly?
Is the measurement listed on the web the distance from axle to axle of the stock Independent trucks, or is it the distance between the inner truck mounting holes?

Pete,
T.V.S. stands for Terminal Velocity Streetboards. They are based out of Carlsbad, CA and put out high quality boards that look cool and are functional. One of the owners and team rider is Gary Hardwick, he holds the fastest downhill speed record in the guiness book of world records at 62.559mph. They also take pride in having a solid team, both park and speedboard, in which they take good care of (unlike some companies). For aggresive carving and downhill, I would reccomend their 42" Mid with Randal 2 carving trucks. For mellow carving you might find the 48" Powder board with Randal 2 carving trucks more to your liking. If you e-mail me, i will send you some pictures and could tell you where to get a good deal on them, as well as the trucks. please e-mail to skate2night@hotmail.com

TVS is short for Terminal Velocity Streetboards.
I'm thinking of buying one of their boards. They have a 38", 42", 44", and 48". Features wheel cutouts (designed for independent trucks I believe), camber, and concave, in an all wood construction. The boards are symmetrical (there is no "front" or "back" 'cuz both sides look the same). Completes come with independent trucks and TVS wheels (usually 70 mm Hyper Super Mundos). All the boards are pretty much the same shape, which doesn't seem very pretty but looks really functional. Those who have ridden them (I haven't) say good things about them.

OK, so I'm new at longboards. Who is TVS? Cause I'm Looking for that snowboard feel and what about "Freeboard's FB112"? The board looks like a sweet slide, check the page and it's streaming vids. www.freebord.com Does anyone have this board, and if; how fast do you go through wheels, is the caster seperate from the truck (can different trucks be used),how does it ride in longboard mode?
Thanks in advance Primitive.

Yep, it's the one with the cut outs. It rides very cool, but i think my ball barings our out of order. Can anyone make a sugestion of good cruising ones, that run smooth as silk? And does anyone have any suggestions for any good wheels? by the way, the concave works very well, and makes the board nice and solid.

I have ridden all the TVS boards with Randal 2s, comp1s and comp 2s, and i highly recommend them, along with Freeride. The wheel cutouts are well designed, as well as just the right amount of concave and camber. Although i wasn't too fond of their shape at first, but they ride so good, and they're very functional and good quality

Is that the TVS board? The TVS boards look like a very functional shape, but what if someone wanted a different set of trucks on the board (say, randal II's)? How would those side cuts work out?

Hey, I can do tail skids, used to do hundreds of them. Send tracings, rails;just tell me how long, and hoe wide. Price depends on how custom,I,ve done wrap arounds that go back to up to the truck, quarter inch thick is the way to go,I drill the mounting hole in a little for maximum wear average price 5 bucks for skids or skids + shipping.I have tons of colors, remember World Industries plastics back in their early days? I made those and most of the colors are still in my basement in a four foot thick stack of plastic sheets.

Ryan, in regards to tail guards and rails, you can get 'em almost anywhere. The Black Label streetboards cmpany makes rails still, so that you don't scratch your graphics. You can get them on CCS. And for tail guards, just take a piece of aluminum, cut it into the shape of your tail, and drill it on

sector pintail vs plush

Well I got tired of looking at my disassembled fave board so I took my r2's off my Plush spring board ,kind of fun, but marginal workmanship puts a negative spin on things, yes they volentered to fix it, but sending it back is such a hassle and its ok, I just have to get some free time and give it a once over with my sanding drum; and cut that useless assymetrical(unintended) tail off.I put a set of hybred Randles (45degree bases with black bushings ,r2 hangers)on the plush, and the r2/cherry bomb combo went back on the concave pintail, I've only ridden like twice since Thanksgiving;nasty cold/flu then a combination of bad weather and business has kept me off the hills ,but I'm starting to jones for that downhill carving rush and changing my set ups is a cool way to have yet one more reason to get out there. Well it worked ,just got back from 6 tasty runs three on each board and the differences are phenominal the Cherry Bombs have a steamroller effect,it takes a little more to getem going ,then watch out, they haul ass, they speak to you during slides ,not continuous nasty slides just u-turns on the flat to shorten the walk up, maybe I'm still more accustomed to the nature of Cherry slide but I trust them more. Another weird difference between the boards was that the pin felt lower than the plush ,it tracked steady and I know with the Cherrys still near 80mm and 70mm Alumators the Plush should be lower, even with its slight camber, sure enough I can only figure its the springyness of the glass, now this raises some interesting ideas, suspension done right(and flex in a board is suspension) has spring and dampening how do you put dampening in a board? If you don't put fiberglass on a vertical laminate you risk spliting, so whats left? plys.Sure glassed vert.laminations feel cool when cruising, but are they the way to go for highspeed skateboards? What do the pro's use ;Dregs, ply;Sector, ply Lee Dansie G&S ,oh well a little hole in that theory but it holds more water than it leaks. This isn't intended to put someone out of business by criticizing their product, just think and respond/comment, the Plush is a really nice riding board and I'm keeping it together and a few rides don't really mean all that much, maybe when I get some more rides on it and swapping wheels and bushings I'll like it more, right now its still second fiddle. Keep rippin up every last part of this millenium, and then on to the next.

freebord vs. longboard

This weekend I had a chance to test the transition from my freebord (41" deck, 16.5" trucks/swivel caster centers) against a similar, but narrower, concave deck (fluid red v, 42") with randall 2's.
After riding the freebord nearly everyday for the past couple months and feeling pretty confident on nearly any slope, I can say that the abrupt transition from a traditional board to the freebord is trecherous at best when going immediately from one to another or the same hill/grade/surface.
I love the freebord for the ride that it is, but I couldn't stick the same line at all until I re-adjusted to the freebord. First drop, I started a frontside slide to reduce speed and curbed it hard. I couldn't understand what the hell was wrong with me. After riding the fluid it was like I was set back halfway in the learning process on the freebord--until I had completed more than a dozen runs. Makes for a frustrating time; I think I'll only take one out at a time.

Thanks, I just checked them out. Being the impatient person that I am, I recently picked up a fluid red v (42") from longskate.com to fill the niche. It was what definitely what I was looking for but I'm always keeping my eyes open for others. Judging from the messages on here it looks like I need to be up the Tahoe 62 to replace that old wooden waterski (and put the XT's on the freeride bowlrider deck).
Regarding tail guards and rails, are they still around/still made? Ryan

Yo Ryan, the best board for all around that is a bit longer would be the Dregs Maddie. It comes set up with Invader 9 inch trucks, and those kick for downhill, and you can set it up wit some smaller wheels, and it works great for street and aggressive riding. It's got a nose and tail, and wheel cutouts. Recommendation:Put a tail guard and rails on the side, don't wanna scratch up the cool graphics.

Next all-around board

I'm searching for a more agressive board for all-around use. Right now, I'm checking out the freeride boards (Jake, Marvin, Bowl Rider), and the gravity's (pool, team, and snow).
My current rides: -freebord 112 (most ridden recently). For sensations, slides and pulling 360/720's w/ease, it kicks. For me, it doesn't ride a reliable line at high speeds (yet), however; -old beercity setup (36" symetrical deck); -50" deck (old wooden mono-waterski, no tail kick, obviously) with XT wheels for sketchy pavement downhills; -mbs mountain board (132cm)for kite traction, grassy slopes, and brick downhills.
Guess I'm looking for something a bit bigger (about 42") than the beercity board that will popup, play in tight places, and still be good for no-frills downhill cruising. I'd appreciate advice in narrowing it down.
Thanks, Ryan http://homestead.deja.com/user.riffyan/rec.html

I haven’t seen much posted on this deck, so I thought I’d add my opinion. I’m 165 lbs, and I’ve been riding this deck for about two months. It’s flat, 42 inches long, ten inches wide, with wheel cutouts from a very thin 11 ply. If you like some flex in a carving board, then this is one sweet ride. I bought it as a complete, with Indy 156mm trucks and Krypto Route 65 wheels. I wanted to use Randal2’s, but Matt at Tahoe Longboards said that the wheel cutouts were designed specifically for the Indy’s, and that using them would virtually eliminate wheel bite. Well, that sounded pretty good to me, so I went for it and I’m glad I did. The Route 65 wheels were useless, but after upgrading them (to real skateboard wheels) this board rocks. I’ve had zero wheel bite using any wheels, including the turbo 76mm. They use double plastic wedge risers in both front and back, and even with the Indy trucks this 31-inch wheelbase carves like a dream. I’ve got the trucks set with the top of the kingpin nut flush with the top of the kingpin, which is much stiffer than the way I run my Randal2s, but it still works great. I don’t bomb hills with this deck, and I would suspect that at higher speeds the Indy’s could develop some nasty wobbles, but I’ve had no problems with hard carving and slides in the 25mph range. Their web site says this board is for riders less than 145 lbs, but at my weight it has a great snappy flex. Not quite as much flex as my 47-inch Gravity HyperCarve, but a lot more snap. In fact, despite it’s all wood construction, you can really pump this board. It’s especially good for narrow streets. Oh yea, just in case it wasn’t already clear, I really like this deck!

I got a Gravity Team 39 about 3 weeks ago. It has kick in the nose and tail, and feels more 'lively' than my Sector 9 Boards. I won't be bombing hills with this, but for (attempting) tricks, it's great. Now if I could just learn to ollie.
I got mine from Solid Surf ( http://www.solid-surf.com/ ). I bought some Randal II trucks from the same place earlier, and found Glen a great person to deal with.

I purchased this board in september. i had never long boarded before. ithis one cought my eye because it looks like a snowboard with wheels. it is quite a bit wider than the sector 9s, and has holes in the deck to alow the wheels to go through them on really tight carves. i love this thing. i have not really done any runs on the old school type boards, but i have to say this one is a blast.
