For transportation I would go with a kicktail (like the cruiser). It helbs a lot with curbstones and manouvring around obstacles.

I am looking for my first longboard. It will be used mainly for transportation but on a daily basis. I'm about 6'1" and 220 so i need a sturdy board. I was looking at the Landyachtz Big Gun and the Arbor Pin. They both seem to have about the same stuff as a complete. I can't really decide which I like better so if anyone has any help at all that'd be great.

Don't know how tall you are, but I would recomend a board between 39 and 44 inches long with a kicktail and 70mm soft wheels under 85 A. For long distance cruising I use a longer board, for city cruising a shorter one. The shorter one is lighter and verry manoeuvrable. The kicktai is great for sharp turns and some surf style skating. You can even ollie up and down curbstones.
Trucks could be wedged trackers, if you like a more conventional setup, or Randals or Holeys, if you like to carve more, Carvers if you would like to do some lond distance pumping. Here are tree boards of different companies, that I personally like:

What are your guys feelings about the arbor boards? More specifically about the pintail? I have one and I am looking for another board shorter than the pin 46" and with a different feel to the ride, maybe with some flex... I love bombing those hills and just cruising so let me know aight :)

get a lush Samba complete from lushlongboards. absolutely awesome for carving. i dont snowboard but i guess it's prob pretty similar. it's like 38inches i think. if you can look for the 2005 model. they released a new Samba with a kicktail couple months ago. i guess you prob wouldn't want that so u could get a Lush Samba 2005 way cheaper perhaps. the hardware Lush do with it now is pretty much perfect

Hey guys, I'm a long time snowboarder, but I live in the Oakland hills. I'm planning on going down to Socal for college next year and want a board cruise/carve with here in town (sick hills) and down there to and from class. I really know nothing about longboards, but common sense tells me I don't want to big of a board for riding to class and what not. I'm thinking 38" tops, but would probably prefer something less...unless longer boards are more beneficial for carving.
In town I'll mostly be taking hills, but I'm much more concentrated on relaxing carving and transportation.
I need advice on all parts, and shops (internet or in the bay area).

I recently purchased a Sector 9 Hydra deck, complete with gullwing sidewinder 2 trucks and ‘Ghost / 75a’ 69mm x 53mm Nineball Slalom Wheels.
I have been thoroughly impressed by the board and have had stacks of fun on it. The wheels stick like nothing else, the trucks let me carve like an absolute bitch, and the board is so lite it almost makes up for the ridiculously heavy trucks, and is flexible as all hell.
I must state that this is my first long board or carve board purchase, so whilst I have ridden one or two of my friends boards, I really have no idea what it is like in the broad scheme of things. Everyone seems to love those Exkate trucks, are they actually better? Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on the board?

I wouldn't use a hammerhead for cruising, but it is a cool hill carver. And it's definitely different.
Speaking of different, besides that homebrew jobbie, is there anything new on the electric/battery board front?

I am looking around for a second board. I have a loaded vanguard with randal's and gumballs. I want a board that i am going to get a very different feel from. I can get a hammerhead for 150 so i'mn thinking about doing it. Does anyone have any expierence with them. The local shop doesn't have any hammerhead demos so i havn't been able to test it out. Is it a steeps specific board or could you cruse around on it too. I am also looking into getting a landyhatz evo or dh race. With randalls would either of those boards make a fun cruising board other than just ripping hills. Anyway I'm just looking for a fun board thats going to have a very different feel from the vanguard, not that i don't love the vanguard.

Has anyone heard of a Krown pintail board? I am new to longboarding and have no knowledge base. I found a deal on a 46" complete setup, but I am afraid i might be too big for it, or it is a piece. Any input is vastly apreciated
