We had a demo today to raise support for the local park. It was SUPPOSED to be 2 demos one at 12:00 and one at 2:00, but it was basically a free-for-all of HARD skating from 11:00-4:30! Marc F came down and stole the show with his slides, hand-stands and nose wheelies- not to mention killing the slalom course he and I set up! It was a great time and people were stoked. Just as he was leaving, the Flipside Shop Team (Athens, OH) arrived and killed it for an hour or so! Needless to say, though, several hours of hard skating in 90+ heat takes it out of a guy! After several quarts of water, I'm still about half-dead!

Great shot, bro!! Man! I'll be there next time for sure. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who rocks the pirate dew-rag when skating! Sunburn and sweat in the eye are the curses of the bald headed skater. LOL

By the way, the Raffle one of kind DHB Jam board is being held by RJ on the left of the picture. Brent did the graphics and they looked killer! Everyone was buying raffle tickets to win that thing! It has the date of the Jam painted on it.

That thing is Sick! You can pull an infinite manual on it and still have 4 wheels on the ground...it's crazy. I road it down the street the first night I saw it and had a blast on it....
Thanks for the props there EBasil! Don't know where you are but if you ever get a chance to ride with a DHB it will be a blast!

Have fun John D.! It sounds like a blast.
I'll be logging in a LOT of longboard time this weekend. On Friday, we're having 2 demos to raise awareness/support for the local park. Of course I'll be cruising around on the longboards and we'll also be setting cones (to show the diversity of skateboarding). Then on Saturday, we're skating in the annual 4th of July parade for the same reasons.

Saturday’s DownHill Billies Summer Skate Jam at the Hobby Park Soap Box Derby Hill in Winston-Salem was filled with STOKE to the MAX! I want to thank everyone that participated, skated, helped with the fun raiser, drop us some swag, or just were there in spirit! It was an awesome day with and awesome group of people and those you in your crew now that missed it you were missed by us. For all of longboarders, slalom skaters, street stylers who like to bomb, sliders, and what have ya skaters, you will be blown up about skating after you attend a DHB event!
MEGA PROPS AND A DHB THANKS:
Food Crew: Darren and Kerri, Lil’E and Shanda, JayBird and Jil, Dex and Angie, and Darren Lil Shane Bandy (who donated all of the hotdogs and fixins!)
Raffle Swag: Brent Griffin- Donated/Painted 1st 1 of 1 DHB jam Commemorative Longboard (won by our new Charlotte soon to be Gainesville, Florida rider R.J.)
Dex Decker- Owner of DEX SKATEBOARDS for donation of two sweet streetstyle boards (one of which was won by Martha one of our new crew members)
Concrete Wave Magazine/ Michael Brooke (via contact made my another Charlotte rider new to the DHB Heckle)- assorted cool swag/tee shirts/books/mags.
Image Entertainment (Las Vegas, NV)/ Mark Jackson (one of very first Charter long distance member)- DVD’s of “Endless Summer” the surf classic!
Note: The raffle was a huge success! Thank you all for your efforts to support the cause!
FLIRTING WITH DISASTER AWARD: 3rd. Heckle for killing the hill time and time again until drawing first blood.
2nd. Greg from Greensboro….dude got sick speed wobbles drafting on Jaybird in the head to head race and pulls off one incredible great save by sliding on his knee pads and wrist guards for more than 30ft!
1st. Gnarly John- While we were standing at the parking lot about to leave for a the day a small scrawny kid that skated up the hill on roller blades all the way past the starting blocks and proceeded to try to bomb the hill. We all try to get him to walk down the grass instead which he did……until, as pointed out by Mac T. ….he drops in over the rail in front of the soap box starting blocks and parallels the hill almost to the run out before eating it big. We reached the bottom to him all he could say was “"It don't hurt, I just can't understand why I can't stop crying” and immediately proceeds to laughing. We hook him up with a DHB shirt, a video, and some stickers for being the GNARLIEST Dude on the hill that day! We got to get that kid on a skateboard and wearing pads! He could have been no more than 8 years old.
FASTEST MAN ON THE HILL: Mac T both on the speed checked via GPS and in the head to head racing Mac T smoked it up. On a day when every DHB was skating there fastest Mac T. had his Landyachtz Evo dialed in tight!
PODIUM FOR HEAD TO HEAD DOWNHILL RACE: 1st. Mac T 2nd. NCLB (Karr) 3rd. Jaybird
FASTEST SLALOM DUDE ON THE HILL: Ron Olson, drives all the way up from Georgia for the day and proceeds to kill the big fast as hell GS from top to bottom starting at the starting gates run after run after run after run for 3 hours and then drives back to Georgia straight away to go to work! That is FREAKIN DEDICATION!
KILLER HOME MADE CONTRAPTIONS:
SST broke the hill in big time (pun intended) on his Crutch Longboard (yes, seriously a longboard built from a real hospital crutch!)
Mac T: Broke out the Shaggy Mobile, a super fat, long, homemade longboard completed with deep, heavy red shag carpet, and a roman candle exhaust! Board was ridden barefoot only!
Brent: Road the hill on the awesome 6 wheeler (4 tandem in the back) two up front!
BEST SUPPORTERS:
All of the friends, families, children, and skate shop owners, stray people from the Short Wave radio club, RC flyers, and two dudes with cameras! It was awesome walking up that hill from a run seeing all those families with small children and other folks hanging out and sharing the stoke for the DHB’s. That in and of it self made all of the hard work that went into Saturday’s event worth it.
YOUNG SKATERS: Jake’s little sun riding tandem with him sitting down the hill!
Jbird with one his daughters riding tandem as well!
Nathan, a young street boarder nephew to Brent and his wife….He has the stoke for longboarding now for sure!
Look forward to seeing all of ya’ll and the next session or jam!

RIGHT ON!!! LENNY AND BEN, THE DITCH LOOKS GREAT!!! We missed you guys yesterday but everything went great. We raised some dough and left a trail of thane burned into huge super GS from the top of the hill. Then we bombed that hill kicking from the grass breaking the 40mph mark and then some. The raffle went really well. So we decided to do a five dollar entry fee , no kick , head to head race with single elimination and a wild card draw for the loser of each heat. Money pot got up to $50 with a $30 / $15 split to 1st and 2nd plce. EVAN won first & MARION took second. WE WERE ALL SCREAMING DOWN THAT HILL!! THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR EFFORTS AND SUPPORT.

The pics look great!! Thumbs up to Ben for cleaning out this ditch. Ben discovered this ditch 20 yrs ago when we were on a road trip to Virginia Beach Trashmore Contest. I have some old vintage photos I will try to post later this week if I can find them. The session looks like too much fun and I will be there for the next one. Marc F.

Wait til I tell my hockey friends about this.....they are gonna be pissed that those dudes did that w/hockey sticks...in fact, they'll be pissed that those dudes did that to begin with...same w/my skate friends. All the hockey people I know wouldn't do anything like that...in fact, they support skateboarders and their causes even if they don't skateboard. I hate to hear about any senseless violence at all...hey, the gate to heaven will be locked when they try to get in, then the trapdoor to hell will open and swallow them whole! Treat others as you would like to be treated....I've only met cool downhill skaters...this certainly didn't get any press when it happened last year....are downhill skaters not worthy? They are awesome folks in my book!
