DownHill Billy SST Down But Not Out
On 7/19/2005 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Everyone in the DownHill Billies Crew and our friends please keep SST, one of the most awesome rippers in the DHB crew in your thoughts and prayers on Friday as he undergoes some surgery to install some new hardware (read: Two screws) in his elbow that he wiped out skating this past week. Turns out his Swellbow has turned into a major Fractured Bow! He is off the board for two months. For those of you who have not seen SST skate, this guy is poetry in motion and rips everything he rides, bowls, street, slalom, downhill, what have you with kick ass style! SST is Core to the DHB crew....get well soon bro and get back on that board. Night Patrol has lost one of its main rippers for a little while but he will come back with a vengence!

I've heard from several skaters in the Chi-town area (on NCDSA). Are you near there or over towards Ft.Wayne?

I'm in south-central IN (Bloomington). I've seen a few longboarders in town, but haven't hooked up with any yet.

Good luck!

Awesome!!
On 7/5/2005 Lenny- DHB wrote in from United States  (68.75.nnn.nnn)

Sounds like you had a blast, John!

You are full-on right about sharing the stoke. There are way too many divisions about silly stuff: skaterboarders v. roller bladers v. BMXers. And to a lesser degree, I've seen it within skateboarding; mainly younger ignorant skateboarders (ignorant as in unknowing, not as the insult) who are blinded by the popular media's definition of skateboarding not knowing how to take longboarding, slalom, etc. We all have the same addiction, just use different tools to get our kick!

That said, it's even more of a stoke that the BMXers gave you room! With as much understanding as I try to have, NOBODY likes near misses (and collisions) with those things!!

LBing in Canada
On 7/5/2005 John Dillon, Team Fun wrote in from United States  (151.200.nnn.nnn)

The slalom courses in Ottawa were too tight for the Bozi so I rode the Comet DonO'on both courses. I did, however, get to ride my longboards at the concrete skate parks-Legacy and Kanata and at the indoor Ottawa Skate Park. I traded boards for awhile with oldschoolers who were riding new school decks at Legacy and to newschoolers who'd never been on such a big board. Folks loved cruising on the Jam 70-incher, the Gravity Ed Economy, Powell NoKaOi, & BDS LB. Just spreading the fun, that's all! Hey, the BMXers at Katana even gave me food from the grill and ice water...and room to skate! That's the way it should always be...sharing the stoke no matter what vehicle you choose to use!

Thanks for the heads up about the slalom forum! It's sad news indeed!

You were missed at the demo, but we understand that you have "just a few" things going on this time of year! LOL Have fun on the river, bro, and I'll talk to you soon. I just happened to think: This weekend marks the second anniversary of the first time I ran cones with you in that parking lot!

During yesterday's parade, we almost had a replay of the Harms v. Man with an O2 tank episode from MSSS '03. This woman with a walker decided to cross the parade route right in front of me! Like the t-shirt at Mile High Skates says, "loose trucks save lives!"

I'm just trying to figure out what that older gentleman is pointing to in the the background of the pic Marc took of me!

Marc F at the Demo
On 7/2/2005 Lenny- DHB wrote in from United States  (68.252.nnn.nnn)

Here's a shot of Marc I got yesterday. Like Marc said, that course was one heck of a happy accident! We got done setting what we thought was a TS straight line and were like "oh man! That's not straight, but it looks fun!" People were stoked on it. Many kids tried slalom, but no one seemed to "get the bug" yet.

We had the parade today! Tons of kids showed up and supported the cause. It was a blast cruising through the town on my longboard, passing out stickers and "working the crowd." LOL My mom even showed up and was in the parade with us (not skating, though)! I think she got a shot or two.

All in all, it was a great and successful weekend. HUGE props go to Marc for coming out, and supporting the local scene here!

After this weekend, I'm stoked on many naps and rest tomorrow! LOL

Lennys demo in Ohio
On 7/2/2005 Marc F. wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

Lenny's Demo was great. We set up a slalom course right in the middle of a big extravaganza. We also had our longboards out cruising the area. There were plenty of spectators and lots of room to skate. I helped Lenny set up the slalom course and I was talking to a spectator and wasn't paying attention and we thought I messed it up until we rode it and it turned out great. I just want to thank Lenny for inviting me to his demo, and thumbs up to Lenny for promoting the great sport of skateboarding.
