Motorized skates

For lack of a better place to post this...

A buddy just gave me a call at work. He said he was watching FOX Sports this morning and saw a fella with a motorized skateboard riding at 70+mph. He went on to say the guy was at a racetrack running 1/4 mile times.

Aint really my bag, but thats pretty cool anyway.

nose guards

And, DaveG uses those car door edge protectors on his Turner (and maybe his Roe, too). They're cheap, available anywhere you can get fuzzy dice, are flexible, etc.

nose guards for roe
On 9/18/2002 C-Money wrote in from (207.152.nnn.nnn)

These work pretty well, and I've been able to find them at surf shops:

http://www.surfcohawaii.com/NG_DT.htm

The hard part is, they recommend that you sand the deck lightly so you get a good bond. It's just hard to sand a new turner or roe, but they do fall off eventually if you don't.

The Roe's are a little harder because of the grip tape. ]
An excellent job Gareth does, but these nose guards don't stick to well on the top. Nevertheless, just sticking to the bottom works fine for me, it does'nt pull away too much from the top.

Nose/tail guards
On 9/18/2002 Mad Hack wrote in from (202.95.nnn.nnn)

I know it's been covered before, but has anyone uncovered a new source of nose/tail guards for, say, a Roe bottle rocket or similar board? I am a bit nervous about this thing screaming into something. I've found a few (expensive) surfboard nose tip guards, and they're too pointy anyway. The other day I was looking at some skis in the shop and it looks like the tip guards on the composite skis these days are the perfect shape and size. Does anybody know if you can buy those things separately? I haven't seen them anywhere and wouldn't know what to call them to search for them.

Angled risers
On 9/17/2002 Chuck wrote in from (63.25.nnn.nnn)

Someone needs to start producing a line of angles risers, different angles, reliable materials like rubber, urethane, and plastic. Give us new, modern, multiple choices...instead of scourinf eBay and yard sales for Rad Pads and buying new pads of unknown shape and pedigree. The last element of old-school gear that needs to be re-produced.

Tracker wedges//Other solid wedges
On 9/17/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

Buddur,I'd Definately put something like a Dooks or PIG rubber-sheet kinda pad under the Tracker/Gravity wedges. They tend to buckle at the corners(or crack just around the corner area)if they aren't insulated from shock with a thin, elastic pad.Trackers are 5 degrees, and most Graity wedges are 7 degrees. TahoeLongboards has thinner wedges, the old Cell Blocks from the mid-eighties,which are more durable, and stackable. They're five degrees of wedge, but in a thinner (1/4") riser. The solid wedges out there vary greatly, some made from soft PVC,I think, that have no means of staying true, just kinda mush out.Hard Rubber, like what was used on Rad Pads, was the stuff to make wedges out of.Urethane is nice, too, but not as 'cush' as good ol' rubber.I think the ones sold at Solidskate are 'thane, and are around nine degrees or so.

Thanks Dave,
The tape I've been using was purchased online thru a large, reputable source, but I think I now need to be more selective when I get some more.

The washers you guys speak of are easily acquired at any hardware type store! I've used them since the 70's and always refered to them as "seal washers"

Hey Alan,
With the new mounting system, will the rails stay on as well as a set of Rib Bones with Sex Bolts (T-bolts)? I like the Crooks rails, but can't stand the fact that they attach with wood screws. Ever ride a set of rails with wood screws? They fall off after a few ollies/slides. Sizes? I need a set of rails around 30"-35". I won't be doing slides on them, but they are for grabbing the rail. Whadda ya got?

Plastic
On 9/16/2002 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (24.148.nnn.nnn)

Buddur: The hard plastic risers angled or otherwise are great especially if you are looking to save weight. Just add a low profile rubber or polyurethane riser underneath for shock absorption.

For the maximum comfort ride though, you might just want to go with polyurethane angled risers.

I've been thinking of making something that could be something people just might want. Called up cnova and together we came up with a new design where the mounting H/W doesn't weaken the rail or take away surface material, yet still be comfortable to the hand. Who’s looking for longboard rails? What lengths would you want them in?

Plastic VS Hard Rubber Angled Risers
On 9/16/2002 Buddur wrote in from (65.149.nnn.nnn)

Anybody have opinionated comments on which works better as angled risers, plastic of hard rubber ones.

I have a pair of original plastic Tracker Wedges (even have the small setup and turning pamphlet that came with them) but they're on another board, and I want to get another pair for the setup I'm currently assembling. I'd like to know if hard rubber angled risers are better in any way, or should I stick with the lighter-weight plastic ones?

Grip Tape
On 9/16/2002 kmg wrote in from (24.197.nnn.nnn)

I've been having trouble lately with grip tape. I have one deck that I have re-gripped twice, but I'm not happy with the results. The backing on this no-name grip-tape is thin, and the grit is scrubbing off quickly. Anyone have any recommendations? How does Jessup stack up?

Washers, etc
On 9/16/2002 "Julier" wrote in from (12.148.nnn.nnn)

Ok ok the washers are not overpriced. TK I will get myself some money and send it out next free period I have.

Yes I am busy studying here at Deerfield, so that I can get into Design school at CMU and make some serious flow doing what I love.
Lots of people have longboards and come to me for advice on what to get. I say- Don't get a Sector 9 and make sure whatever you get has Flashbacks. So, green wheels are a common sight here.

My dinking aroung skating has been revolutionized by my Heeler name of Sierre( si si for short). put lots of lotion on your dogs pads and do not push too hard. Treats help, but most dogs love to please their masters and will try as long as they feel that they are safe. Lots of water and other exesize helps. i take sierra running when I go. Try to learn to carry a medium dog while skating back downhill if she is too tired to go on. oh yeah, pet pet pet.

Mc Master-Carr

Henry, the EPDM rubber washers are listed at (for sizes between #10 and 1/4") 6.2 to 7 cents each IF bought in bulk of 100 per-package,add a few more cents per for polyelastomer.Bonded Sealing washers.like the ones TK was talking about are around 9 cents per, again,in bulk of 100.The Stainless Steel ones are around 14 cents per.Mc Master-Carr will break down bulk items for you,but charge up to 35% more, with some smaller items not available in small orders. You just have to ask, that's all. And,no,I didn't have those prices memorized, had to look them up.That'll be $12 Service and Librarian's Fee to you, young man!

Washers
On 9/15/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

Sorry,TK,my bad. I'm using what JG told me to use. They've worked quite well for nearly a decade on my ol' Turner(on it's third set, with me owning it-but you get what you pay for,eh?).Bolts stay tight, board dosen't fold, toes don't trip on 'em. Works for me! As for TK's washers, yup, they're nice, and darn near the extra pennies.I just happen to remember what it was like in school, and beer money was sacred. $10 would get you going on Friday Nite. So,TK,no offense here,I'm just a cheap ol' bastard, that's all.

And another thing
On 9/15/2002 TK wrote in from (165.247.nnn.nnn)

Important key points in Henrys Request PSR May have overlooked. 1) "permanent stash" This usually means volume.
2) "don't have time to go to hardware store" Young Henry is too busy studying at Deerfield academy so he could make major flow and buy all the Cool stuff he needs.
3)"TK, I saw on your ROE set up...." What HJ saw was indeed a clever washer type donut but not the kind the great PSR is fond of and knows the prices of by heart. MINE are BETTER and much more expensive thus making my board faster than PSR's. TK

TK's overpriced Washers

PSR, thankyou for saving Henry J from being brutally raked over the coals to the tune of 10.00. I feel so shamefull that I tried to take advantage of young Henry . Me driving to Home Depo, picking up the Neoprene Bonded to metal washers (work better than the lame donuts), Waiting in the checkout line, Driving to the post office, carefully counting out 8.00 worth of washers and handing the postman the 2 or 3 bucks for a priority envelope is really only worth a buck or two . Who was I kidding. This board needs more Atticus Finch's like you to keep the goons like me honest. I'm sorry to all the other skaters I have ripped off over the years. Thanks PSR, Sorry Henry. TK

I have a golden retriever named Tessa but prefer my right leg as a means of acceleration. I don't consider her "Miscellaneous equipment."

I'm looking for some rubber washers to put under mushroom-style hardware for my Ick. Joe Iacovelli is sending me some but I'd like to find a place online so I can have a permanent stash. I don't have time to go to a hardware store.

TK- I saw on your Roe setup what looked like small rubber donuts that acted like riser pads. Where did you get these?
