PADS
On 2/10/2006 JD wrote in from United States  (70.23.nnn.nnn)

For the guy looking for knee pads. Try, Triple Eight KP22 Knee pads. There super comfortable with buterfly closure in the back. The cap is super flat for more stability when you go down. With out a doubt the longest lasting cap I've ever had.

nope, its a serial port - I think thats the other reason the garmin 201's on the discount eBay list(under $100) I wonder if the software is the same on this one?

forerunner 201
On 1/25/2006 peters wrote in from United States  (64.236.nnn.nnn)

Hey Martin, just purchased the Garmin 201, I'm mostly interested in mapping out the altitudes, dist and speed of trails and rides using spreadsheets, so I'm hoping it'll do the job! It seems the main upgrade to the 301 is the heart rate monitor? Pretty shnazzy...

forerunner 301
On 1/25/2006 martin siegrist wrote in from Australia  (62.203.nnn.nnn)

this device comes with a heart rate meter and usb cable. you can transfer data to your pc and check your runs. it's nice to have. but the software on the computer sucks. i had miscalculations of like 160km/h instead of +-80km/h. most probably due to a lack of satellites at these positions. email me if you wanna know more.

speedometer/GPS
On 1/5/2006 peters wrote in from United States  (24.18.nnn.nnn)

I'm probably getting the Garmin Forerunner 201, they seem to be closing around $90 at the moment -- would be interested if any GPS owners here think of any features you think are worth upgrading to the far more expensive devices ($300-$400 range)?? Seems like the lower cost ones get the job done...

Don´t buy a speedometer..buy a GPS advice instead. If you are lucky you can get a NEW Garmin Forrunner 101 or 201 on ebay for like 40 bucks!

"Modern" High Tops-brands...
On 12/14/2005 Sugi wrote in from United States  (168.8.nnn.nnn)

I used to rock some Vans skate hi until I landed on my heel-HARD. I picked up some Dr. T HIghs from a tip on the ncdsa boards and love 'em. They are about dead so I looked around for who's making a "modern" (read tough and well padded)skate high top. It looks like high tops are making a comeback! There appeared to be true highs, not mids but pictures can lie...

Lakia Telford

Anyone know of anything else?

Boneless Pads

....Does anyone know what the status of Boneless Pads is? I recently placed an on-line order with them and paid with Paypal. 1 week later I receive a refund for my order and am told..."Boneless has not replenished their distributors for 6 months". I hope this isn't true, I really like their knee pads.

new slide gloves
On 12/4/2005 snaggle tooth wrote in from United States  (69.236.nnn.nnn)

I was out riding downhill with some freeborders today in San Jose. One of them had some really sweet gloves and he was sliding them hard at 40 mph. Then he said he is actually selling the gloves. I bought a pair on the spot, these pucks feel like stone - amazingly smooth and durable.

Here is the website if you want to see them:

Eddie,

I'll be up in Austin on the 10th, could you suggest any special sites to skate? There is only going to be four of us and we ride a mix of short and long boards and try to avoid the local police as much as possible. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks

for just doing little stuff, no super high speed crazy stuff, i use leather ranch hand gloves from walmart. $1.95. they hold up well for the price. they dont drag you down too much.

Slide Gloves
On 11/7/2005 jaybyrd wrote in from Mexico  (207.17.nnn.nnn)

I found out the hard way that the Gravity slide gloves are not as good as I had hoped they would be. I was tring out a new bike trail that runs thruogh a park. First lesson I learned was to know your run, it was alot steeper than it appeared and has some serious doglegs. I was tring for a hard turn, threw out my hand and had two of the velcroed pucks ripped right off, this left the fingers without pucks and this tore up the glove. I think I'll go back to tring to make my own.
