dude i agree with you the smaller 160 hangers jsut dont do it for me.. so what i did was put randal 180 hangers on my r1 baseplates.. (i also degweged them to 30 degrees instead of the stock 35) i have gone up to about 100km/h on this setup and its still stable as a rock.... mine arent drop through tho they are bottom mounted
yes you can flip the hangers, (i would suggest only flipping the rear hanger, you still need to be able to turn)
and im pretty sure the trucks and CC's website are the comp2's i used to ride the comp2 luge hangers on my speed board with pogo baseplates.. i really liked it for a while, but found that it added ALOT of weight and i could get the same results using my current setup... and its just my personal opinion that 200mm axles are just too big...

Well, i read it a couple of times and theres one thing i would like to question you about!
I´m making my own DH board, from a large flat piece of birch (hard to find maple in Portugal), similar to your homemade board, and i wanna make of it a DH board...
I´m gonna mount the trucks drop throuhg, and the question is wich trucks!!!
The problem is:i don´t have a lot of material to swap baseplates with hangers from dif models, so what i´m buying will be what the board will ride on...
I love large trucks ( Randal 180, Force C7 ), instead of the shorter Randal DH..but just esthetical stuff!
So, even after reading your website couple of times, the question remains:
Do Randal 180 wobble at bigger speeds? Do you really really recomend Randal DH or is the diference to Randal 180 as small as a sand grain?Can Randal 180 with the reverse hanger, like you have on your website, work as DH trucks?
Aren´t there riders in DH competitions who also use original RAndal 180?
Well, if you have patience to answer all this questions, i really will have to say a big thanks...

So, what design is best for which kind of hill? Drop deck, drop through, or top mount? I just rode my first drop deck, Landy EVO, and really liked it. But it would seam, that you would lose a bit of leverage when compared to the other two designs. I also just ran across a photo of Chaput on a top mount, and in the caption he mentioned why he chose that design for that course. But can't remember as to why, or where I saw it. GRRRR! As I'm buying a speedboard for myself for Xmas, any design wisdom and experience that you care to share would be much appriciated.

I too race with a motorcycle helmete and it is a pain in my ass. Luckily, I have an icaro coming from santa this Christmas. My recomendation on a new, affordable helmete would probably be the one that is sold by Timeship racing, decently arro, looks like there is better vision, and it is snell rated if you ever have had that problem.

yeah how about some aero helmets... i've got a motorcycle helmet but it sucks because whenever i tuck it WILL NOT... WILL NOT let me see farther than 25-30ft in front of my toes. is this a problem? should i be thankful it doesn't eat my head like a venus flytrap? yeah... i need a better helmet, any ideas? i already know about the icaro and fibertec or whatever stuff but i need something affordable.

ok. so with a big skate trip in the offing next year, my major concern is with wearing the hell out of my foot with both the pushing and the footbraking.

However, as not everyone will want to ride Biltins, for whatever reasons, there's still a need for good spacers. So, Wafflesole, for your Flywheels you want a spacer that's at least .400", which is what the nominal spacing is on those wheels. Problem is, it's hard to find good spacers nowadays. However, if you check the Vendor's Corner, you might be able to find some. :-)
Regarding Biltin shields: Here's the best way I know to salvage damaged shields--bent ones, at least. (If they've got big "dimples" or dents in them, they may be beyond help.)
Take off most or all of your shields. Stack them up, and gently but firmly press them together. The good ones will kind of serve as a template for "re-forming" the bad ones. With patience and persistence, you can often bend the bad ones back to a useable state. I've done this with both Biltins and Rockets and had very good success. (Obviously, don't mix brands when you do this, i.e. don't mix Biltin shields with Rockets or Bones seals, etc.)
If they're really bent, you can *sometimes* bend them back somewhere close to their original state with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and then use the "squish" method described above.
And here's one final tip--well, actually two--for not bending the damn things in the first place:
***Be careful with your skate tool and don't let it contact the shields when tightening your axle nuts! In my experience, shields don't bend from simply riding; they bend because people get careless with the wrench, usually when they're in a hurry. Which leads me to tip #2, which is...
***Use Grind King Rims instead of regular axle nuts. The "lip" around the nut makes it IMPOSSIBLE to bend, crush or otherwise damage your bearing shields or seals with the skate tool. Rims also have an inner "speed ring" built into the nut, so you don't need one between the bearing and the nut. I ride them on every board I own because they're so foolproof. And they last a long time. One $6.00 set of Rims has lasted me at least a year and a half, and that's on a slalom board that I'm CONSTANTLY changing wheels on. Seriously. Don't f#@! around with regular axle nuts. They're a bloody waste of time.
OK, end rant. Sorry for the hijack, but Chris is a busy guy. :-) Hope my advice helps somebody out there.

Hay Tyler. This is my first Downhill Racing season, and I have ridden stock Randal 150 trucks the whole season. The fastest I have been on them is about 58mph. Of course it is a little more skechy then other trucks, but I dont really get speed wobbles. Just make sure your trucks are tight. My Randal 150 have treated me very well, and helped me have a very successfull race season; however I am going to upgrade.

Practice Practice Practice. At 50 it is kind of hard to footbreak. Kinda really hard. If I am going 50 and I am going to stop/slowdown, I will stand up air break and carve a little tell I slow down to 40-45, then put a foot down.
Some people crouch down, grab both rails and then foot break from that position, but I dont. I get speed wobbles when I do it. Try it out going slow and see if you like it, then try to do it at a faster speed.

X- It's simple.. The distance between the "center point of the inner mounting hole, to the center of the axle @ a 90 degree angle!! In other words, when the truck is mounted... and the board is upside down, make a mark on the baseplate directly below the center of the axle...now, measure from that point to the center of the "inner" (inside mounting hole) That my good man is what you seek!

Do the Bearing cost so much that you want to deal with them ? I dont know is why I ask. I use cheap bearings for riding and $200 dollar bearings for racen when I feel like racen for real.The builtins are real good because you dont have to worry about washers and spacers, thats a good thing.
