Thanks for the info Dave. Timeship seems to have some ideas for helmets. They have some Motocross helmets and some custom face sheilds that seem like they will work. Thanks again.

Hey Olin...Thanks for stopping by! I saw the little video John put together from Maryhill....good stuff! I think he gave a copy to someone who is going to host it on the web...that guy has been "working on it" for a while. I'll try to get a link here when it is up. See you on a hill!

The 19th sounds O.K. I will look and see this week whats up in my life but looks like a winner. I will also get at least 5 to 10 more young riders out there and talk to sector 9 about coming with stuff.Have been working hard on sponsors for the young bucks racen our western races.I will gave you the location of the next race at the Badlands Outlaw on the 19th.I took off 5 years of paint on my Doc. should help to keep up. Looking forward to the race and the other race with the young guns racen each other.

Erek...how are things going in Utah? Sounds like a sweet old board. I think our friend Waldo rode one of those down Signal Hill back in the day! Post a picture if you can!

Rick...I think RJ is trying to rally for a session on the 19th at the Badlands. What do you think? Let's keep the momentum going!! You say you have another hill? I want to hear about it.

Snell Rated Lids

The best Snell rated (motorsports rated) helmets for downhill skateboarding seem to be the Moto-X helmets. Remove the "sun visor" and put on a face shield for best results. Check with Timeship racing for helmets and custom shields.

If that Bozi is stiff enough for your liking, you might be able to run it. I'd switch it over to Randal DH's and some soft Gumballs and give it a try. 1 or 2 piece leathers work...make sure the 2 piece leathers zip together at the waist. Moto-X helmets or DH Mtn bike helmets work well for starters. Not really hard to cross over...if you can run a fast GS course and know how to footbrake with your rear foot, you are ready to go!! East of the Mississippi? GSI's race in New York...Montreal's Top Challenge...and keep an eye on the DHB's for possible DH races. That ICK sounds really tempting!!!

You might need a little riser with that board. You want to stay away from wheelbite!! I would try flat risers first..start with 1/4 flat risers and check for wheelbite. If you are going to be riding on the streets, I would stay with the soft wheels. Hard wheels will typically slide easier than soft ones while sacrificing speed and a smooth ride. You can slide the soft wheels with a bit of practice.

today i was offered a unique board. it almost looked like a buttboard but he assured my that it was used for a world record stand up attempt in the mid 70's. he was unsure of the history of the board other than that. He called it the red banjo. it had a standing platform in the middle of the board, then it cut in to planks just wide enough for the trucks. It looked to have 3 layers of fiberglass over a wood deck. any history on this board would help me swallow the bill for a piece of history. I will have a pict of it tommorow. thanks, EREK

Hey, I was wondering if anyone new of a good Snell rated helmet for racing. I've seen a lot of helmets like the Dr.GoFast and the Icaros but I don't think either are Snell or DOT approved. Please let me know if anyone has any bright ideas.
Thanks!

slalom to downhill

All these downhill guys trying slalom lately, i figured i'll go the other way. If i wanted to get into downhill this year and hit a couple events, what would i need? Teh only longboards i've got are a Bozi wedge nose with a Tracker 184 up front and a metal Seismic 180 out back (K-Lees recomendation) and Fly's. And i've got a Supaflex Dragon with Randals. I'd have to assume neither of these would do So what?....Landyachts or some other speed deck?. Drop deck like the DH or drop thru hangers?.....I guess it's opinion bases there. I'm assuming Randal DH's are pretty much standard, as are Flywheels or Gumballs. I'm also assuming i'd need full leathers (1 piece or 2?) and a full face helmet... How tough would this be to cross over to? Any races worth attending east of the Mississippi?
Anybody want to trade a bitchin downhill set up for a custom Ick Stick 36" GS complete with a Geezer tracker, Customer Turner XTC and Avilas?

I guess some guys are heading out to the Badlands this Sunday, like Dan, McIntyre, and others. Just wondering if you or John was gonna be out there or out at GMR. If I don't here that anyones going to GMR on Sunday, I'll probably go to the Dump. Otherwise, I'll be heading out to GMR.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I have a 42" board with a 27" WB and some gravity 72mm 78a wheels. I haven't put everything together yet, but I think I'll need a riser of some sort b/c the board is not a pintail or cutaway and has been prone to nasty wheelbite. As for applications, I'll be mostly using this board on flat land for now but hope to someday use it on some hills at moderate speeds. I want to be able to slide it if I need to shake some speed. I know the wheels may be a little soft for sliding. Any suggestions?

Thanks Kludy! It was great racing with you and the “southern” crew. I’m seeing some nice pictures from Chaput! Thanks Chris..keep ‘em coming!
Racing on Saturday was a blast and it sounds like I missed out on a great Sunday GMR ride...I’ll be there next time! Did DT ever find his board? It’s good to hear that Nick and Kurt are OK after rolling a truck on the 210!! Thanks to GFH longboards for the cash!!! Thanks to Jeff, Danny and Justin from Sector9 for the schwag!! Thanks to the IGSA guys for the event and passing our boards through tech!
A big congratulation to the women speedboarders!!! Judith and Carly fearlessly charged down that hill!
I think if we did the skateboard final 5 times we would have 5 different “photo” finishes. John, Brent and Jimmy were flying all day. Good stuff guys! Next time John and I may have to put on our fast lids!! Speaking of fast lids, it was good to see Jarret"DocGoFast"Ewanek again.
Congrats to John, Rob Ruhman, and Tyler Wentland on the streetluge podium. Tyler was the #1 streetluge qualifier and took the classic luge win…..Tyler also had impressive runs on his speedboard. The Redlands crew was well represented with Daniel Rogers on the podium in G-Bike as well. Good times!

John and Laurie had their daughter Carly Ryan there. Dave and Judith had Sarah Maude. I brought Kendall Nicole (aka Nicki). Erik and Chrystal brought Joseph and their dog Grommet. A good day for good clean fast family fun.
