Mitch's and Mission Beach Club (Hamel's)
On 4/5/2001 Geoffrey wrote in from (128.164.nnn.nnn)

I was in San Diego for spring break and after craving a customized board for a while I went a-shopping. Like Cheshirepus said, Hamel's has an excellent selection including $40 R-IIs and Kryptos. Also, since I was not interested in buying a whole Sector 9 setup the dude said he'd just take the deck I want and build it right there for me.

As cool as that sounds, I went to Mitch's Surf Shop in La Jolla, where the atmosphere is less touristy. Mitch is the nicest dude, and so is Carter, the dude who setup my mail order. Buying it from Mitch's was definitely worth the wait, that's the kind of place where you go in and they know your name. The fat guy with the mustache at Hamel's probably doesn't know a whole lot of customer names, ya know?

2 thumbs up to rad customer support at Mitch's, kudos to good selection at Hamel's.

Hammels Action Sports, Mission Beach (San Diego), CA. Right next to the roller coaster
On 4/2/2001 cheshirepus wrote in from (160.227.nnn.nnn)

Yeah I know you all probably know about Hammels, but I'm sounding out anyway.
If anybody in the area knows how to do downhill/longboarding, it's Hammels. They're the only local place I've been able to find Randal Trucks and Kryptonics wheels. They also have a wide assortment of Sector 9 and Gravity boards, along with a few other creations that somewhat resemble a longboard of some sort.
Best thing is, is that right after you put a board together, you only have to take 5 steps (literally) out the door and BAM, there's the boardwalk right on the ocean where it's just asking to get carved up.

Leo,

This chain store has it's largest longboard inv. @ their Village location, 659 B'way.

Limited longboard wheel or truck selection.

They had never heard of bearing spacers.

Some of their longboard completes have exskate torsion trucks and they also have the mongoose atv board.

High in volume but limited brand choice for shorts. Nothing stands out.

Their store @ 160 E 86th St. had the most responsive staff and an ok selection of longboard wheels.

On 3/9/2001 mbhidel wrote in from (172.160.nnn.nnn)

Leo,

This shop has a large selection of longboard completes, including five different G&S set ups.

Good variety of longboard style wheels including the 76mm race core kryptos.

Randall R-IIs, Indys, Pivots. Lots of bearing choices.

Pig style re-issue decks w/ early 80's graphics.

They had clear grip tape in stock!

Multiple risers in stock, most completes had angled risers.

All shorty's needs, including one truck brand I had never seen before.

Lots of busted long, short and pig hanging overhead.

Post back if you can't find their #.
