brady, i grew up in a household that did not use any South African produce.so did tens of thousands of others here in the uk, the home of the exile anti apartheid movement. after the reforms in in S.A. many of us now make a special effort to deliberately source south african produce. does this make us anti south african? take for example CAPE brand grapes. am i anti fruit??

Well jonny, that`s just poppycock. But do tell me about the portfolios of all these skateboard companies and how lost sales will affect change in US government policies.
The only thing I can see with your thinking is lost revenue and in effect less of payback to the skateboard community.
All I`m hearing is anti skateboard and anti American rhetoric.
Maybe you ought to start at home and address issues at hand rather than throw rocks at the US Skateboarders across the pond.
Regards, Brady Mitchell proud American Skateboarder and more proud with each of your posts that I spend my hard earned dollars on skateboard equipment (whether US made or not)
Again I say... ride a skateboard and end terrorism!

brady, i would like to quote nobel laureate archbishop desmond tutu in an article written by him concerning the boycott of Israel explaining how there is a precedent for this type of action.
"Divestment from apartheid South Africa was fought by ordinary people at the grassroots. Faith - based leaders informed their followers, union members pressured their companies' stockholders and CONSUMERS QUESTIONED THEIR STORE OWNERS. (my caps) Students played an especially important role by compelling universities to change their investment portfolios. Eventually, institutions pulled the financial plug and the South African Government was forced to reconsider its policies"
it works. it may yake twenty years but it will work. I have not knowingly bought any US made products in the last year. I have not visited the US for over a year, besides the so-called patriot act makes it dangerous to do so. it was not until i witnessed the level of apathy and disinterest of many of those who post here that i thought i should offer other skaters worldwide the chance to do the same. Skateboarding turned over $6 bn in 2001 and that is money the US economy can ill afford to lose even a part of.

By using Yahoo email you are supporting a US business. Yahoo sells ad space within their mail service. They are able to charge high rates for these ads due to the large number of users of Yahoo mail.

I would also like to rettterate the I am neither against or for a war with Iraq. I do not have enough evidence to make a call and probably will not get all the facts.
Right wingers state one set of facts and left wingers state another.
But more importantly, why would you insist that a retailer or manufacturer of skateboard products make a political stance? That almost seems like a fascist tactic in itself?

jonny, I don`t understand the need for a botcott against skateboard products since they in themselves have nothing to do with terrorism or fascism. The only thing I can conclude then is a boycott against American made skateboard products which in escence supports the US economy.
Please explain how buying anything skate related supports facsism?

brady, i was made a moderator of that site without being asked and i have never acted as such. i dont even know how, i have never tried. i am not even sure what i would be expected to do as a moderator. it is not my site, but rather an open forum. i did not attach the disclaimer, gunning put it there as a joke which clearly went right over your head.
using yahoo is not incompatible with a boycott as it is free and therefore gives us a chance to use US resources up without contributing in any way to the economy.
i will repeat that i am not anti american but anti fascist. i was jailed for hospitalising nazis, not germans.

jonnyx, I find it combelling that as a moderator of an engish website (or UK?) that the first thing that pops up is hold harmless statement that incurs right as set forth by Pres Clinton. And you are also using a yahoo based email that is also froma US country.
Perhaps it would be wise and pactice what you preach? But wait a minute, then you wouldn`t have a way to state your idiotic boycott. For you see, just that act of riding a skateboard is anti-terrorism. No oil consumption, no tyrants and no martyrs.
Just anti american rants from a UK`er on a skateboard forum.
Gimme a break....

In light of the forthcoming atrocities to be carried out by the USA in the middle east I am compiling a register of skateboard manufacturers whose products enlightened riders can buy in to without supporting the economy of the USA. This tactic of individual boycotts has already proved highly effective in South Africa and is now also beginning to hit the Israeli economy hard. The register will be available soon on www.badasskate.co.uk If you have a product which qualifies then please email me at ethicalskater@yahoo.co.uk cheers

Hey Leo, you do have a point, you are the only person on this whole board that is really experiencing a real threat to your safety and way of life. Perhaps your post will put things into perspective for some of the folks on here.....I for one, am one of them.

Peace on the forum, guys!
All that matters is the stoke, let's keep it real.

Arab, I, like Dave G., have received threatening letters from you in the past. Maybe you meant (within the last year) rather than (in over a year)?
You`ve also claimed that I`m one of those "Arab Haters" when in fact I just recently sent you an email expressing that I do not dislike you, I don`t even know you, and that everyone that I met that met you say you`re the nicest guy.
I just don`t agree with some of your posts. I have no ill thoughts towards you at all.
So please stop trying to pull me into this...

Jonnyx,
I understand that you are passionately anti-racist and I applaud you for that. I am not "belittling" the sentiments being expressed on this board, I am belittling the methods of expression and, particularly, the choice of location. Trust me, based purely on what I have read of your postings here, I'm pretty sure we're on the same side. That said, I don't think a skateboarding forum is the place for "bitching" about politics and who said what about whom. Sincere apologies for any offence caused.

A few days ago I went to a couple of Skate shops to get interest and involvement in a race I plan this summer. I directed them to this site where I claimed was information from great skaters from all over the US and elsewhere.
The degeneration of this site is apalling. There are harsh words and bad feelings at every turn. There are a couple of common denominators and I'll let yall figure who they may be. I feel there's a difference between "Free" speech and "Costly" speech. Right now "Free" speech is costing this site its class and dignity.
When I have to look back 25 posts to find at least one slalom related post here. Or when I go to the Bulletin Board and find it has completely degenerated to namecalling I no longer wish to visit.
It's damn cold here up in the northeast. I can't really skate due to it being 15 degrees, so I come here to think warm thoughts and talk with those of you who share my love of all types of skating. I know most will agree when I say the skate talk needs a return.
I am imploring Adam to act in some manner and get this site back on track. I can only wonder what those I sent here are thinking.....................

This is embarrassing. It's like stumbling across some kind of "U2 are better than Limp Bizkit" bitchfest. I used to think there was some sense of unity amongst skateboarders that transcended politics. Obviously, I was seriously wrong.
