Hey Cliff, my old mags are still kind of fresh in my head, since I looked through them a couple of weeks ago, there was one article about the Hobie guys going to Switzerland and meeting some ancient guy that skated a longboard with and anchor(a small one)and a brake between the trucks that scrapped the ground, the old guy would apply the brake with his cane ,by pushing it through a hole in the deck ,I think they said he was 72 but he looked not a day over 95.

Hi, Adam:
I too think It's nice to see other downhillers close to my age. There have to be some that are older. Any other old guys out there rolling? By the way Adam, Dave will be fifty in April and I will be fifty November 22 this year. Skating has helped keep me in shape and feeling young no matter what the age. If I can make it I would love to go to the GRA slalom race 11-21 at West LA City College. Does anyone have an extra pair of elbow pads I can borrow if I make to the race?

Core Sports Magazine, on newstands now, has a fairly good write up on longboarding, a female speedboarder, etc. It is an expensive, high quality "extreme" sports mag. They even mention this site as well as Nosewheelie as further information sources. Watch for it, it has a snow board girl in a silver bikini on the cover. They have a website:www.coresportsmagazine.com check it out...

Lono,
Last time there was a $20 entry fee, and full pads/helmet required. I assume that it will be about the same this time.
Skategeezer,
Great idea. Maybe we could get a nonprofit domain name, something like www.downhillsk8.org and put that in small letters at the bottom of the stickers, so that when people see them they have somewhere to go. I would also include a small graphic of a skater, so that if anyone didn't know what "bomb hills" meant, they'd still get it.
Let me know,
Chris

So, I was riding down the street when it hit me...
We need a funny, appropriate and powerful call to action that would unite longboarders worldwide. So, here's what I've come up with. Imagine the possiblities if 100,000 longboarders went to their computers and ran this off...Imagine stickers plastered on walls and bumpers of cars worldwide. Sure, it's a nod to the Herbalife folks, but somehow I think it's appropriate. Hopefully, you won't think I've lost my marbles.
Here's my slogan:
BOMB HILLS NOW ASK ME HOW!
If you like, run with it, if not, post another idea!
cheers

Grade Measuring- 1' for every 100' feet travled is 1%.So a 25% grade would mean for the 100' you've travled you're going down 25'... I think.
Keep on bombin'

I think grade measurement is about double the degree measurement 12 deg.=24 %grade, could be wrong. They sell these blue angle finders ,they have one at the bikeshop where I rent my skateshop space from, the tool is kind of short for measuring landscape but surveying equipment is a little extreme just put the angle finder on your deck and make sure none of your wheels is in a pothole.

Is there any standard for measuring the grade of a hill. I know the state puts up grade % signs, but this is for highways.
They measure roofs by how many inches drop in a foot. I just measured a hill that was 12:2. It would be nice to find out what people are skating on.
(you take a 4' level and a tape measure then divide by four)
Any suggestions?
