Hey Jake,
Blow me.
Whats the point of being sponsored? So you can put a little patch on your leathers? That'd be cool. Real cool. Ride for fun, not for a eXkate sticker on your sled. You're only 15. It's not like you need street luging to pay the bills next month. Why don't you concentrate more on school so you when you get older you will have a job that will let you skate and luge instead of working a 10hour shift at the loading docks. Oh well, thats just my opinion.
Oh yea, by the way-
I'm 15 too and anyone who wants to sponsor me drop me an e-mail actually, don't.

To Whom It May Concern:

Subject: Street Luge & Downhill Skateboarding Sponsoring Proposal

I will take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jake
Kaplan. I am 15 years old and partake in the sports called Street Luge
& Downhill Skateboarding. I am also one of the youngest competitors
competing on the West Coast.

Street Luge is a sport where a pilot steers his sled, (based on Ice
Luge), down a paved road with no engine, only gravity and momentum.
These pilots have reached speeds in excess of 70mph. The sport of
Street Luge started in the mid-seventies and emerged from its
underground roots in the mid-nineties.

I have been Street luging for about 4 years now and been Downhill
Skateboarding for about a year & have competed in one organized race as
a professional. I am a member of Extreme Downhill International, (858
272-3095) and I am going to compete in all of E.D.I.’s organized races
this season. I will also compete in the Qualifier for the Year 2000
ESPN Extreme Games, and the Qualifier for the NBC Gravity Games . All
the Events I will Compete in will be televised by major networks.

With the broadcasting of these events on major networks, companies have
a chance to be represented and reach a broad array of potential
customers of all ages. Street Luge is most appealing to males from the
ages of 12 to 35. ESPN airs a event called the X-Treme Games, and NBC
airs an event called the Gravity Games every once a year. Fox aired a
show called Real TV where they ran a clip of a Street Luge race. Major
sponsors that take part in the world of Street Luge get thanks from the
racers during speeches, including booths to advertise at the races. As
a sponsored rider I would be more then happy to work with your company
in new advertising techniques as well as individually promoting your
company in the Street Luge & Downhill Skateboarding sport. Your logo
would be worn on my leathers and be printed on my posters that are
handed out to the public at races and sent to fans of the sport. If you
would be interested in sponsoring me this race season or have any
questions please contact Jake Kaplan at
(858) 576-2154

Thank you,

Jake (SuperBoy) Kaplan

The new International Longboarder Magazine is now available online in its entirety here on NCDSA! We will be creating a special space for all their issues, but in the mean time you can download issue #2 for viewing in your Adobe Acrobat Reader from this forum. It comes in two parts since they are both 3+MB to download:

International Longboarer Magazine #2, Part 1 (3.9MB)
International Longboarer Magazine #2, Part 2 (3.3MB)

If you need the Acrobat Reader you can get it for free from Adobe:

Hey fellow racers & enthiasts! My computer took a big crap & the only thing that I couldn't salvage was my address book! Those of you who have been in contact with me, I have lost your e-mail address'. Please send me a quick note so I can rebuild my address book. We will have a flyer going out soon for the November 21st race.
Thanks!

Hi everyone.

I've updated my trick tips site, which includes a longboarding section.

In the next few weeks, more tricks will appear on the site, many of them demonstrated on a longboard.

The new site includes Quicktime clips for most of the tricks -- soon all of them. There will be a new entry every week.

The new url is: www.bobstricktips.com

Thanks,

Bob Loftin

Goto Lycos search page.Put in skateboard, fastest.Scroll down
to 77mph and see if file will load. The Dreamcast would'nt
load the article.Even went to the newspaper archives. No luck.
I know that downhill is still semi-under ground. But from
where I'm standing there's mass riders.My point,get that MPH
posted. It's not that tough to get some people together to
pace the runs, especially when they think your hamburger by
before the end of the hill.

unoffically i believe its Darren Kessing at 72 (he was drafting cars) he got a speeding ticket in which the cop was using radar- i've heard this from several people, is anyone else familiar with that story?

c502: are you sure that the 78 was standup and not luge?

Does anyone out there know the CURRENT standup downhill
speed record?
I've searched everywhere.The fastest I found was 78MPH.
Persons last name was Minor. Can't remember the first name.
It was done sometime 1998.
Does the record still stand?

Post your findings!

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is now a full length documentary video out on the Ocean Bowl skatepark. It's the oldest city-run skatepark in the country.
I ordered it from a guy named Dave who actually works at the Ocean Bowl. The name of the video is The Ocean Bowl Story.Old school footage rules the video, but the new footage kicks ass! The cover on the video is a vintage photo of the original asphalt skatepark. It spans three generations of skaters, and three different incarnations of
the park. Call Dave at(410)213-8236, or call him at the park at(410)289-BOWL. He'll be glad ya' did. This video gets the double chaka!
