Hey NCS:
What I have been told - the best adhesive is the sliding pads themselves. Get a blow torch, heat the surface of the sliding puck to the point it is liquid, then press it directly to your gloves.
Have not tried it - but the rumor says it works.

I have been using Fabreeze Anti-Bacterial. When I get back from a session I spray the stuff on the wet pads and let dry. Have been doing this for a couple weeks and my gear smells nice and fresh.

Ok dudes how does one get the stink out of safety gear, my pro-design pads have a stench that is pretty bad. Washing them did not help. Any tips? Eddy Texas Outlaws.

Sliders and Slide Masters: I am looking for suggestions on the best adhesive to connect slide pads to leather gloves. Any suggestions out there?
I have purchased a couple of different brands of slide gloves including Bozi's and the pads themselves are good but the fingertips are not holding up. I want to make my own using military leather gloves. Any other suggestions would be great. I wear my slide gloves for almost all types of road skating with the exception of the bowl/ramp riding. My biggest use for my gloves is for scrubbing off speed in hard switchback carves on some of the big hills we run, hard heal side and toe side turns, and for power sliding. I am big skater so the gloves will have to tolerate some heavy pressure.

& I'll testify, I sell 661 which makes butt pads, but Hillbilly's are SICK, especially for boardsports. & after hanging & talking to these guys, I'm confident anything they make is going to be a safe bet $-wise, on-site, so if you THINK it's going to work for you, get it, it probably will!

Anyone tried the SixSixOne (661) helmets?
They do run a little small, the Large Bravo 2 does just fit me, but they do go to XXL.
The Bravo is more egg-shaped, the Comp is rounder & a slightly lower grade, Ala Arai.
They also have the "Dirt Lid" skate-style helmet, which is 1-size (sizing provided by foam velcro-attached inserts, included) & probably wouldn't fit HUGE mellons, but @ about $20 it isn't a bad attempt....
Pro-tec may be your best option for sizing of skate-style helmets.

I have a board (mostly dirt board) shop in Telluride CO USA, so I get to play with all this stuff. For what it's worth.
Oh, & they (661) have a crash replacement policy, so if it gets a huge impact they'll replace it at cost which is about 50% US retail.

Thanks for the 'heads up' (no pun intended) on the Giro.
I'm not too concerned with looks, since all the kids at the parks think I'm nuts anyway (I'm 50 -- a bit old <or crazy> to be taking up skateboarding).
Sounds like a helmet to look into...
Also, thanks a bundle for your list of "others" from skateboardsonline.net.
I had already checked into S-One, TSG, and (IIRC) World Industries, and found the same thing (although I wasn't sure if the helmets I tried on were the largest they made).
Hopefully, we'll hear more about the Red.

I've thought about carving into my Pro-tec as well. I don't think it would take much to relieve the pressure on my forehead... Will save this as a last resort.

For what it's worth, I too am afflicted with bigheaditis and have had the same trouble y'all have. I took the innermost REALLY kooshy lining out of my Pro-Tec helmet. It's a little scratchy feeling, but it fit a lot better. Since then, my knoggin has taken some blows and the helmet still protected everything (except I'm now colorblind and can only count to 12 J/K).
As far as Prodesigned Pads go, have you emailed Pro-Designed? He mail be able to ship some out to you. Like the website says, they cost a little more, but it's WAY worth it!! (I compare the price of pads to the cost of a trip to the ER and the pads win every time!!)

Nino at www.skateboardsonline.net did us all a huge favor and checked through all the stock he has (and that's a lot) to see which one fits the biggest. He has to really squeeze into an XL Pro Tec himself.
He looked at:

Flyaway
S-One
TSG
World Industries
Pro Tec
Unfortunately, he said Pro Tec is the largest fitting.

The Giro S9 XXL is DEFINITELY bigger than a Pro Tec no problem...except...
It looks like ass!
The padding on this thing is built in to the shell and it just makes my head look like I ride the special little yellow bus or something. No offense.
Fit's great feels great no worries but just looks like my mom made me wear it.
Adam is the Red any better or is this 1.5" padding deal just common with all snowboard helmets? I could return this and get a Burton Red no problem but would love to know how close it looks to a regular skate helmet.
Man if Pro Tec only made an XXL! That would be perfect.
Does anyone have any connections with Pro Tec??

I'm glad your alright. I heard that you cracked your helmet. We have a new Carbonfiber Mad Max II with removable pads coming out. No Switchblades available yet. I'll let you know when they are around again. New skate helmet coming soon from Bell. We just signed Tony Hawk and Ryan Nyquest.

Well I just ordered a Giro S9 in XXL 13oz which on paper is supposed to be bigger than this protec. If this doesn't work, then I'm going to try the Burton Red model next. One good thing is that SnowShack on line won't keep charging me for shipping on each of the next ones I try. I can return what I get and try again but looks like I have to pay the return shipping. Better than a head injury though.

Yeah I checked out Bell and Giro and that doesn't look too hopeful except for the Giro snowboard helmet S4? Looks like it's some kind of custom fit but it's sure as hell heavier than a pro tec by like 250 grams...which is pretty much a drag. Yeah the bell bike helmets...no way...tooooo heavy...and yeah that s#@!e would be nasty when wet for sure.
I'm going to look at Red.

Tried the Gyro clam shell in the largest size, and it was smaller than my Protec!
Was told the Bell Bighead (or something like that) would fit, but I'm not crazy about wearing a heavy motorcycle helmet with padding and no vents in the park...
Was told that it wouldn't matter -- it would dry out, etc. -- but I don't really believe it would be suitable. Even my wrist guards come out dripping on a hot day, and still smell a bit even after dowsed with Lysol and fan dried. The Bell would end up weighing about 30 pounds after I'm done filling it...<g>

The GS race in Hood River, OR was epic. I don’t think there has ever been a slalom race on such a long and fast course. If you were there, you’ll probably agree that it’s the best hill/course you’ve ever skated.
Because it was so long with lost of twists, only a few people saw my crash – and I have no idea who they are. I’m thanking God that I’m ok because it was for sure, the worst fall I’ve ever taken – in any sport – and I walked away.
I was probably only going about 17mph after a set of stingers when I was reaching high and right for a tough offset cone and lost traction. I high-sided and hit the ground fast and hard. I have no road rash; I didn’t slide on the pavement. I fell flat and hard on the back of my shoulders and my head. I saw that flash of white light and was pretty dizzy for a few seconds immediately after. It’s all pretty surreal now. Thinking about it in hindsight, I can remember feeling my helmet do its job. I mean the whole thing sort of collapsed around my head. I tore the plastic webbing that fits around the back and the foam that the outer shell is mounted on broke off. This is the part that protects that soft spot where your skull meets your spine. I can’t help thinking that if this were not a quality, single impact helmet, the result would have been different and I probably wouldn’t have walked away.
I won’t sit here and say that I’ll have a helmet on every single time I step on a skateboard. That’d be a lie. But when I’m riding downhill or especially racing, I’ll sure as hell have a helmet on and whenever possible, it’ll be a “good one” like the ones made by Giro. You get what you pay for. It’s your head, use it.

Barry, you are so right. Bill at ProDesigned can make the best knee and elbow pads not to mentiont he best wrist guards. I also use the PD hip pads when I skate slalom or when riding vert. Your post was perfect... you hit the nail on the head...Bill at PD builds custom pads that work. period.
Skate safe today, skate again tomorrow!
