After 25 years of skating on and off, differant times in my life, differant styles, old crews and bands die off and fade away, they get real jobs, fat on their sofa watching some stupid game. Soul is after all these years of skating I am having as much fun carving down the hill in front of my house with my 7 year old as I did during those old time punk rock agro sessions 20 years ago.

Soul is meeting new people and making friends during your freshman year of college and discovering the soulful art of longboarding from a fellow dorm mate. Soul is being handed a longboard for the very first time with a bit of advice from this welcoming friend of yours and spending endless hours learning the ways of the longboard, all the while, forgetting about your problems and difficulties of life. Soul is feeling like a giddy 6 year old boy during an early christmas morning as you clutch your very own longboard for the first time and run fanatically up the steepest hill in your sights, eager for 20 seconds of pure ecstacy.
Thanks for all your help Speedy

Soul is still being clean with the help of skating and ridding a mountain closed to trafic for 3 hours till dusk settles over the city. Just moving back to a town you love and meeting up with seven other longboard bros and getting the honer of turning them on to this site and PT bearings and ABEC 11's. Soul is slaming the pavement at 25 miles an hour and getting up to finish the run. Having the masses amazed at your deep deep carves touching the ground as you cruise with the setting sun at your back. Skateing saved my life. Skating is my life. Ride long. Ride clean. Ride forever.
Strenght and respect JOE from hear on posting as abandon (to many JOEs out there)

Summer is almost gone, fall is soon to be upon us. And I've been smitten with the greatest thrill in my recent memory. My 14-year old son and I skate our local park on Sun. mornings with some other great old schoolers. We ride, we talk and embellish, and skate some more.
The last two Sun.'s we've closed up shop early on the park and gone carving on longboards up in the mountains. You should see the sparkle in my son's eyes when we finish a 1 mile run carving on glassy asphalt. Makes me remember my longboarding days in the mid '70's. This past weekend we had amassed a posse of about 10 skaters. Our contingent is growing and we're going to be needing chase vans and radios soon (and more coolers).
The most important thing to me is to be sharing some magical moments with a son who is jazzed by his old man's downhill moves. In contrast to the skatepark, things slow down a bit with carving. We talk on the walk back up. Share stories about this and that, and connect the generations.
What connects us is the simple thrill of a magic rolling board and gravity pulling towards a sometimes unknown destiny. But, the real destiny is life. Life as a carver, seeker, and lover of life. From father to son to father to son....
To pass on the love of carving is one of my greatest unexpected thrills. I hope many of you experience this, too.
This is my "Aspect Of The Downhill Slide".
Keep carving and railing and sharing it....

Soul is... a 9:00 pm session with your little (10 yo) bro. Barefoot. In swim trunks. Trading a longboard and a 20" banana board back and forth. And meeting the little brother of a guy you used to hang out with in middle school. And he's skateboarding too. Then tandeming back home. Yeah. That's soul.

music: anything that has a little roll to it pipes and fiddles/violins mellow/medium voices. soul is going to play in a parking lot for 4 hours...and feeling like it's 15 minutes...it's going on your second date and learning that it is neither as hard or as easy as it looks...it's remembering the first time you stepped on every time you do...it's laying down something beutiful noone else will see.

I read somethin earlier bout sharing the soul, or something like that...almost everytime I skate my 40"....kids look at it like its some alien concept that would never work....then they get on it and cruise it around the park...then they watch me skate it and go just as hard as they do...doing the same tricks, grinds and air tricks their doing....they soon realize...skating is still skating....from 31 inch little rides....to huge super tanker longboards...theirs something for everyone....now thats soul

I was so tired of skating in traffic, so tired of looking over my shoulder and then , I found it the PERFECT SPOT. Right under my nose the whole time. Downhill slopes as wide as a 4 lane hwy only no cars. Warm wind in your face with cool shadowy trees and a view of the horizon. Not a soul around on a holiday weekend. Grassy hills and perfect pavment like memories of old school Marina park.It paid off to show random acts of kindness to total strangers. Good things still happen.
HINT: There is one or more of these in every decent sized town.

Soul is mikey's site. Good job der' bruddah. Soul is not breaking any bones while holding a video camera and bailing off your board. And... Soul is a local skate shop taking the time to properly fit you for a helmet (gary, florida ocean sports). Soul is people you've never met except through a common love of skating, being full of Aloha (jymi, stubbs, mikey, jeff, josh, isabelle, peggy, nightgrinders crew, and hombres trio ) Soul is vendor's who take the time to answer your endless and repetitive questions ( thanks Jeff ) Soul is having a website to come to and connect with the community worldwide ( thanks adam and crew ) Soul is you taking the time to read this long ass post ;-)
Roll with Soul...

sorry I am a little late on the music posts but I thought I would throw my two cents in. Out of the subway on 9th street pop in a mix disc start with dropkick murphies, bad brains, iggy pop always a good choice. Come on how can you beat raw power as you scream threw times square. Trnas am is good for skating. the list goes on and on.

Hey Scabs, don't want to bust your nut or anything, but I wouldn't be checkin' out the girls riding waves in the movie Blue Crush, because Noah Johnson, the pro surfer, wore a bikini and rode most of the waves in that flick. just a heads up.

Soulful is . . . being 26 years old and never having been on any type of skateboard, then trying a board at a friends house. Stress of things to come, bills, job, and life dissapear. Everything becomes a excellent ride with wind in the face. Just got a 47'' soulcarver, things are good.

I rate your post a 4, you'll have to do better next time. But if you look down the board, I have a 1, I'm clearly the more soulful one :P I think the rating system should be removed from this board at least, its messing with my feng shui..
