Soul is downloading all prior messages from this board and reading all, just to satisfy my soul before my night ride.

NYC
I'd really like to hook up with you guys and carve around tribecca some Tuesday night. Where do you meet? I work downtown above Century 21. I currently ride a S9 cosmic. Sometimes I take it to work to go to and from the train/ferry, and when I have to go to the WorldCom building in Newark, NJ. In Newark the security guards always ask me where's the skateboard when I dont bring it. Ever ride through a server room?

yesterday I ended up ctaching a ride to the Cape Point nature reserve by luck with one of the teachers from my school, as we arrived the last guy surfing got out and left, now here we are two guys in an international heritage site, literally a small herd of buck on the beach and a huge clean 14- 16 second swell running. As the tide got lower the waves got hollower and the kelp got thicker, the drops got more intense with us both on perfectly sized semi guns, per square inch of land this place has more life than any other in the world, their I was, I got into a wave well behind the bowl I paddled and took off before barely having to crouch to get into the barrel, perfect stand with my hands by my side completely relaxed I sat looking out of what was to be the best barrel of my life, absoltely air brushed I am sure this wave was straight out of a magazine or an artwork book, with the six - seven semi gun below my feet I slipped my foot as I dropped down from the wave face into the shallow rocky bowl, all was still well apart from my slightly misplaced back foot, it cost me the barrel of my life as I fell like a kook straight into the face of the wave of my life to get sucked over the falls, That day I cought many better quality waves but I was never in the same position with that absolute comfort in the barrel stance, when I fell the first thought in my mind was "DAMN" I guess this just means that I have to start searching again for the same wave, that was just a small tickle to the soul, like a relapse for a junkie this has only made my search for "that" wave even stronger, it sure left my soul laughing.

here's my nyc skate soul moment du jour: every other tuesday, the NYC longboarders meet to skate some streets and drink some beers in tribeca. tonight was my first night riding in manhattan (normally i ride in brooklyn). after some fun cruising broadway down to the bull statue on wallstreet (the end of the upcoming Broadway Bomb race/run on saturday) and meeting all these fine urban boarders, i decide to bail with 2 other boarders to get on the subway and boogie back to brooklyn.
cruising up 6th avenue, we see a bunch of guys wheeling a 25ft piece of wood across the street. we hop off and help with the pushing - gotta help a brother out, ya know. we ask what the wood is for and find out it's part of a 18th century wine press that is being installed by an artist (the short guy directing at the end of the press) in a local gallery. cool. we are about to get back on our boards and continue up 6th ave and one of the guys realizes that the artist who was at the back of the chunk of wood was the same guy who designed and sculpted the Bull Statue on Wall Street! talk about a small soulful world.
cheers! steve

Stick with it, pete, definate soul there! Though still a "youn'un" (20), I've ridden in most major styles- old school, freestyle, downhile (long and short), cruising, shortshortshort banana boards, dirt boards (with and without bindings)... let me tell you, nothing says soul like a longboard.
...unless it's a 24 inch banana board with more flex than a long bow and nicer curves than Monique Powell.:)

Great post, pete, and glad to hear you're getting some flow and carve. It's all skateboarding and it's all good for you. You reminded me of learning 360's in my driveway near Big Rapids back in the year '68 or so, still riding and still loving it. best wishes, ride on

I skated for about 3 maybe 4 years. (shortboarding)My friend that I started with and I started to grow tired of it. There was no flow or soul in it for me anymore. We were stoked on the new dogtown video and wanted a little old board. We decided to make long boards instead. The last couple of days we just soul carved down hills and totally ditched skateboarding. Something I had done for so long. My first real commitment to life. My first obsession. I dropped it so quickly it kind of freaked me out. That shows the true power of longboarding. I'm fourteen and am the only person in my school that longboards. I live in michigan too, that kinda sucks. But i get to experience soul carving, something very few my age experience let alone appreciate.

Imagine this: You. One guy who you converted from short to longboard. One guy you tought to longboard from the ground up. Two guys HE tought to longboard from the ground up. And one brand-new, never-before-skated (we think) parking garage. Yeah. It was good.

Ahhh dont you love the sound of you wheels rolling along the street. Wizzing as you turn and humming on the straits, the sound when you cross that thick white paint on the center, the overall surealness of just goin 35 mph on a piece of wood, when you rule the road.
Just think about it, live the ride

Heard that the tunnel cycling event last year was fully regulated with The Man in attendance, bogus!
However...h0dad ran the tunnel at 1:30 AM the following morning. Slick as, used the R2's just in case, with the mundos for superior accelleration. Slick is the word, it's pretty oily. Good to have the bud in the car watching h0dad's six. Getting holed up in one of those little phone booths as an 18-wheeler shoots through would be nasty.
It's a downhill gradient, just enough for h0dad to get accelleration after a tow in off the car. Took another tow half way though. Mission went to plan, nice off- ramp at the port end also, bonus.
It was a buzz not knowing much about the grade and fully getting padded, and funny to find that there wasnt enough grade to warrant that much concern, but hey.
Still, adrenaline at being naughty on camera is always fulfilling!
