Hey, SuperSwooper, you oughta mount a videocam to the front of your board; if you're nerdy enough, let some Star Wars prop dangle in front of it, like an X-Fighter or somethin'. Take t w o boards and make it a low-alt dogfight sequence. Okay, I think I should've taken one of the purple pills instead of the rainbow-colored ones...

It's a place that had a longboarding period about 20 yrs ago when it was first paved (I think). As the surface went rougher and rougher the skaters thinned out to a hardcore few, then pretty much none. Last summer it was completely stripped, regraded, and asphalted to perfection. I talked with an expert from the Fed. Hiway. Admin. last weekend who commented on the "exceptional quality" of the new surface. Rumor has it there will be a "chip and seal" job done on it this summer, and doubtless it will happen soon if not this season. So this may be a narrow window of opportunity.
As for riding on the left, this road only goes to a ski area and right now, it's closed. There is no traffic so you can ride as you like, walk back up the yellow stripes, lay down on the stripes and take pictures or sunbathe. There will be some traffic in the summer when they re-open for chairlift rides, horse rides, etc. There will be music festival weekends when it won't be a good idea to be on the road (drinkers).
The downhill run is 6 miles and 1300 feet of vertical. This averages to something like 4 percent grade, so learners have it pretty good. For the most part you can carve turn after turn in the 15-30 mph range. I think it would be hard to break 35 or 40 standing up. An "average" run takes about 20 minutes without stopping. Good bearing maintenance is necessary. The road winds through the woods and hugs the edge of a ridge for good views.
It's a county road and so far, the sheriff's people have said there's no problem as long as we yield to motor vehicles and act mellow. Obviously, it wouldn't take too many rude boys to change that policy. So now it's in our hands to be considerate, smile at the old folks in Buicks, and enjoy this super spot with a "lucky to be here" mindset.
Oh, sorry, it's the access road to the Grand Targhee Ski Area at Alta, Wyoming. Right across the Teton Range from Jackson Hole. From Idaho Falls or Rexburg, ID you go to Driggs, ID to get to Alta. There's good camping nearby and a small town, laid back scene here. Please let me know if you're going to make the trip out here, I'd love to share some turns!

My thought for today, having recently had an unplanned butt to road interface:
surfers respect the sea
snowboarders respect the mountain
I must remember to respect that hard black stuff under my board!!!

So this is soul take two. Good fortune moved me brightly to the House of Blues last night, thanks C-money. Dick Dale is an absolutely fantastic performer. This guy rocked!!!After doing everything on stage, he proceeds to make appearances playing his electric in various sweets, and over every balcony. really too much. From surf guitar to Johny Cash, and Elvis, he plays left handed and doesn't restring, now thats something.

hey everybody that sent a message, you need me then call me i am there....too much bad pain as i slammed and i have a head shaped like a rugby ball but thats by the by. SAmsara bulls#@! sometimes hurts and gives us a painful prod when the "soul" becomes too occupied by the noble eightfold path. getting ready for a few races and a special board v downhill mountain bike race i was too intent on not upsetting the opposition thus shouldering the heavy load of my karma and theirs (trying to scrub speed as they dissapeared behind me)....they must now travel their own road. so enjoy the carve and the soul but keep one eye on the road and shaolin reactions for samsara attack.

Yes, h0dad believes that the lost art of hand jive is a good thing also. Part the air infront with your hands, trail a hand behind on a corner.

technique for Soulcarving. Put your soul into everymovement, from lifting your hand to powering your board into that slight stand up drift, put everything you have into it and feel as it comes back to you at three times the force you put into it.
