Hey boys I'm checking with locals with an up to the minute update as far as the tearing down goes. Lee has been talking to the bulldozer guy. If for some rreason we get one more weekend, lets make it this sat, every longboarder this side of the Mississippi better show up and pay some last respects to a sweet as 70's sk8park. We can have a all nighter at the pool and from what I've heard you can camp there over night. It most likely will be gone by then, but I'll post an update on fri. Come on Dillon round 'em up, lets even get some dc doys up there with cones and timers, its a bank slalom heaven.......anyone like that idea?

Hey R, It's cool. That's how we deal with each other here. We talk s***, but we don't take any of it seriously. As far as riding S.E., hell, I can't get any of my Adams Morgan crew to venture over. I always ride by myself. I have a friend who lives over that way and he's a cab driver who knows every spot. We can hire him for a few hours and get shuttled every where. As far as the hassle factor, I've always been treated like an oddity but generally with good nature. I really want to have a downhill competition in S.E. as part of a DC Triple Crown. Am I alone in all this? I'll skate with anyone. And I'll show you parts of the city that must be explored if one is to ever talk about experiencing Washington, D.C. Everyone turns their back on this part of town, but I believe skateboarders are different in that respect. I know people that work with the schools and are always looking for any kind of guests to speak with the kids. A skateboard demo would blow kids minds. I visited an inner-city retreat for kids living with HIV with Street luger Bob Shwartz and we really didn't do anything but let them lay down on the luge. Well, the stoke those kids displayed probably helped to make that one of my coolest skate experiences ever! I can't even ollie but anyone with those talents could truly make an impression! Anyone interested please contact me. Thanks

Hey, Anthony, no diss on you intended, I'm just rather bemused by the idea of capitol "hill" being so flat. Skating is banned on the actual hill, as I'm sure you know. Transplantations aside (I'm not really that "recent"), I tend to consider Anacostia as apart from south-east (the part contiguous to the rest of the city)--which is pretty silly. So thanks for the heads up on the hills--how skater-friendly is it up there? I got some hassles last time I went through the old part of town (checking Orr elementary, etc.) I also might have some info on a new pool in Capitol Hill near South-West, but still have to check it out.

Well boys and girls, I spent yesterday paying my last respects to a wonderful place we call Magic sk8park, in Reading PA, some might remember Tom Groholski tearing it down in some old Vision videos. Anyway, myself, John Dillon, Longboard Lee and his wife Jill, and many others had a great session yesterday. The place will be bulldozed this week, probally today. We have been hearing these rumors since I first sk8ed it in 90, and now the time has come. I filmed the last longboard session and interviewed a bunch of locals for a little documentry film I'm gonna throw together. The footage will also be in the new Gravity video that will be out later in the year. It was a super sad day, but at least the people living in the 60 homes being built there will have a nice parking lot and playgroud....All I can say is wow...please not Lansdowne.....R.I.P. Magic Sk8park... anybody have a story to tell, or something cool to share about the park send me your story or get in touch, would like to get more info, cabbage03@hotmail.com by the way did I mention www.haveyouseenskye.com tell a friend, thanks, Cabbage.

I've been to Orcas twice so far. IT rips. It so fun. I spent two days there last week. Only thing that bites is the price to get there. Ferry is 31 bucks or so just for driver and car. I've put some pictures on the web: Orcas Island, WA Skatepark.
Here's Mark Hubbard, The creator/owner of Grindline, the company building the park, Grinding the "death box."

Anacostia IS Southeast. You must be a recent transplant. We get a lot of those. And they think Capital Hill is SE. Cross the bridge. Forrester, Chcago, Naylor... Wanna check it out? Contact. Hills with Thrills. Like surfing the box. Ever heard of Marlow Heights? Hillcrest Heights? Temple Hills? The names are dead giveaways.

Mysto Pool in DC

I’m glad Anthony brought up the Mysto Pool. I too think it should be skated soon. I don't consider myself an elite NoVa pool rider" but I am one of the NoVa pool riders. The pool in the Southeast Quadrant of Washington DC is in a sketchy area but in my opinion that is not why it has not been drained and skated. And it is definitely not because we are too content with the Vans kidney pool.
When it comes down to it, no one pool or one park is the all and end all of skateable terrain. The Vans park is good in its’ own way but sucks in other ways (crowds, lack of historical knowledge of how a park is run. See Ed Economy on how to run a park). We are so lucky to have the Vans park in our backyard but everything should be skated and not just Vans or just the abandoned 123 Pool.
There are some major projects being taken on by the No VA skateboarders and many events going on at this time, for example, ECRW ventures, the Arlington Skatepark, and the DC Outlaw Slalom Races. It would be a shame if the Mysto Pool is not explored. I hope it is that we just have not got round to it yet and not there is a “one-dimensional skateboard attitude afoot”.

There's a pool in the Southeast Quadrant of the city, that's in an abandoned apartment complex. It's square with rounded corners though I can't tell what the tranny's like, as it's got 4 feet of water in it. So, who wants to get dirty. I've discussed it with some of the elite NoVa pool riders and they said they are quite happy with the Vans park. I think they're afraid of Black folks, but that's just me. Alva and Adams would be severely disappointed. I have a friend at NRL with an industrial pump that can drain it in 15 minutes but it's still gonna be a lot of work. Who's game? As a bonus, SE has the best hills in the city. Cheers!

Still far from pouring the crete but progress is in the making despite the heat. Sorry, I missed the sesh last night on Walker Av...had my own sesh up north.

Sounds like most of the Louisville aldermen/city council have their heads screwed on right with regards to the skate park situation, most unlike *some* people faced with a similar situation in another "L" jurisdiction, North of the District, here.

Recently I got to skate at a nice bowl in North Myrtle Beach, SC. It's 6ft with nice trannies and good tight corners. Its rectangle shaped and 32x16 (i think) Pretty fun and easy to get to It's right off Highway 17 in "downtown" North Myrtle Beach on....s#@! what street is it on? uhm South 47th? I think let me go check. Nope South 7th. Not hard to spot once you turn on the road, its a skatepark and its like 6 bucks to skate i think.

According to buddy himself (not his real name), the supervised (permitted skating) hours are 10am to 8pm 7 days a week.
In the Spring, it M-F 3-8; S and S 12-8
This is what he scribbled for me on some paper on the hood of his van. Who knows if it actually is the case.

The Louisville park is by far the best park in the nation. It is also in danger of losing it's free admission and open 24-7 status due to an unsurpervised 8 year old on a bike that thought he could handle rolling into the 11 foot bowl. Sue happy parents who don't want to take responsibility may have the last word. Still does not change the fact that Louisville has a killer mayor who believed this was the right thing to build. If you have not seen pics of it you might check out www.louky.org .
