Thank you everyone for all your kind words and encouragement!!! It's nice to know you guys don't mind me joining in.I learn so much from reading these forums and being new to slalom, I'll take all the advice I can get!
To Glen D.--Thanks for the info, I sent them an email. I'll post if anything exciting comes of it.
Cabbage-No, that's not me, It's my friend Lauren Perkins. She rides for Vans, I ride for Vision. Glad you found Jimmy.
David- You're so right!! Skating with the more experienced riders always pushes me to up it a level and I love the fact that they do such creative tricks. Seems like the up and comers are all the same old-same old if ya know what I mean.
Arab--I'm serious about the PR thing!!!
MG-thanks for the props! Unfortunately, I'm kinda used to being broken. That was number 6 for me. But I'm now meeting with my Aunt who is a Rolfer and she's working on me once a week. What a difference!!

Right on Sasha and Dave. At our DC outlaw slalom races races there's 2 kinds of people who get props. The people on the podium. The people who try hard and do better than their last time. We've got kids, Kickflippers, college age, old, older. Fast slow, in between. Ex pros, current pros, a legend now and again. All just folks, trying to go faster. All happy to help. And it seems the better skaters they are, the more willing to help they are. I've helped people slower than me get faster. Guys like Curt Kimbel have helped me get faster. I can't help him with technique, but I can help with his trucks. It's whats going to keep this all going when this current boom plays out, and only the hardcore is left.

forgot to add sasha as a girl and someone who is younger than me, i'm sure your experiences are quite different than mine. one thng i've learned from years of skating with guys(and gals) much older than me is that one of the best things about skating is that as long as you skate hard and with passion every session, it does'nt matter how old you,or if you are a guy or girl, or anything else, people will treat you with respect...thats my opinion at least

Olson-I second that! I had Hamburger Hill 5 minutes from my house as you did LA River. Learning to ride 50ft walls on Clay Wheels then early Urethane then early Precision readys you for anything. Lee Webber and I use to skate LA, then we would cool down in the river, and take a ride about a mile or so holding our boards over our heads. Cant believe we never got typhoid or disentary or some other disease of some sorts.
MG-there is a guy named Abe that rules Albakurky, he would have done well at the Deathrace.
Sascha-Being the fact that you could outskate most the Morons on this site, you can hang anywhere! You are also a role model to the younger kids. I think a Kids Forum would be great, I think anywhere that kids can talk to other kids without the pressure of Adults butting in is great.

sasha, i know how you feel. i'm only 18 and usually all the guys i skate with are between 30-55. skating with guys like cliff coleman is interesting, he's old enough to be my dad but as long as i treat them just as skaters, they treat me just as a skater, age does'nt seem to matter when it comes to skating and the friends you make. when skating with guys like cliff, i only have respect for them, and i only wish i am still skating when i'm 50.

Well, I don't know if I speak for everybody, but as far as me and the guys I know are concerned, you are welcome to butt in anytime Sasha. Skating is all about showing up and throwing down, and you proved you know how to do that at Avila. Skating the next day with a busted arm was pretty gutsy too. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the mention Sara.
Joe, too bad you didn't race at Hackett's Deathrace. Talk about needing all around skate skills. Wonder how many Alb locs would have completed THAT course?

Arab--I wish to comment again about the kids forum. Regardless of the negative comments, I would once again like to assert that it is a good idea.
A reason I bet not too many people thought about is this, I am a 15 year old sk8r chik. And I love to talk sk8boarding. but I can't tell you how many times I have felt wierd about posting wondering how these older guys feel about a little girl butting in on their conversation? It makes me feel kind of uncomfortable, but I do it anyway cause I want to be involved and talk with others who love skating as much as me.
So since, I at 15 feel wierd, perhaps those younger than me feel even wierder? I guess I'm actually kind of used to talking with older guys being as that's who I skate with most of the time and they're nice to me and it's all good, but what about others that aren't that used to it?
Perhaps a moderator (or motivator) such as yourself would be a good idea for such a column to keep the conversation moving in the right direction. I personally avoid a lot of other forums as the conversations drift to many things besides skating and I don't want to go there. This includes adult and kids forums. So please, keep pushing the idea for a kids forum. I'm hoping that forum would stay true being as most of the kids have parents that skate or post or both. Over and out.Sasha

In the near future We will show up at the for said location, THE BEAR, for the ALL AROUND EVENT. AT BLACK LEATHER RACING, JUST SO YOU, (JOE) KNOW, We Win, and like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prisoners, that is not a choice, I personally love to go as fast as I can go on huge Banks, Growing up with them 5 minutes away from my house didn't hurt either. The only thing that hurt, Was slamming hard there, which happens alot when learning how to fly. From clay wheels, all the way to the precision bearing wheels. Bring it Bitch, I'm f#@!ing GOOD TO GO

Where in the world do you come up with this pyscho babble plethora of BS, Most of my problems come from idiots like you, over analizing something that doesnt exist. I think its time for "Free Clue Day" on NCDSA. Would you like to get one? Or you can have the "30 day free trial clue" , I think you would be better off with the "6 month lease option clue", Then again someone with your over analization of everything everytime everywhere might need the "Introvenously Transmitted Clue". John there is a guy from florida that really takes a beating here because he hasnt a clue about anything and everything, you are starting to take his place, I suggest you be seen and not heard, this will help you in the long run.
Antti-You obviously just dont get it, you are that Anti Kid guy that said: "Parents who encourage their kids to make all star teams should be shot" great and leave the kid with no parent? Do you really think the reason to have a kids forum would be to monitor what the kids are doing? Free CLUE here Please!!!!!!!!!!
Joe & Nick-Where were you on saturday Nick?????????, Joe heres the thing, Antti is anti kid.
Cabbage-Dont stop doin what yer doin, heres a free clue for you, dont listen to people that need a clue? (JA).
Henry J-The HV boards are a combination of Maple and Carbon Fibre, some are vertically laminated like Comets. I'll give it to you when your here.
GX-Kids are cool, I enjoy going to skateparks just to hang out with kids, I'll always pick out the kid that can barely skate and try and give him some pointers and encouragement, I'll start by haveing him do something that he "Can Do", then I'll have him take that to another level, when the confidance has been built then they useally will perform alittle better, having a sense of fullfilment is the best confidance you could give a struggling skateboarder. I try and make the kid feel like an "All Star", kids are special, even the ones that cant skate.

ARAB-
Many thanks for the Herr Vaughnster! I'm sure kids will want to ride it. When I'm not using it in clinics or letting people try it at races, it'll be used by my 15 year old sis Ellie. She is interested in learning to slalom and as far as I am concerned, the board is hers when I don't need it. I told her about Herr V's being rare and she promises to keep it in good shape! Can you tell me more about how theses boards were constructed and what their shape is like?
Maybe I can pick the board up when I am out in LA.
Thanks bro!

cabbage, I need to give up ncdsa.com too. got work to do, but coming back to skating after many years makes it hard. so many interesting people like you and arab.
you seem surprised that arab attracts detractors. I am not. here's why.
arab said he replies to posts he thinks are below him because he thinks the absence of a reply is tacit agreement with the post. in my view, this is his biggest weakness and the cause of most of his problems.
he gets lured to taking the low road too easily.
cabbage are you saying you have the same weakness? I have the same problem, but am learning to control it. I have a wicked counterpunch instinct. Hit back twice as hard as you got hit, right? we didn't have message boards as kids and that is when we should have learned this stuff.
ignoring a post is the fastest way to make it go away. try it for yourself and see if it works.
If you have to post something, post something positive and different right after something negative. it is different than real life where sometimes you just have to stand your ground and fight back.
it may be too late for arab to change his ways just like he can't quit smoking but it doesn't mean he can't tell kids not to smoke and to ignore trash talkers on message boards even if they have to stand up and fight once in a while in real life.
arab, you can bust on me now, but I will just laugh and ignore it (I hope), keep your great column rolling thanks!

Cabbage makes me proud to be from MD. That said, Take a deep breath, Cabbage, let it out slowly...R E L A X....hope you can make it to the Park and Ride on the 8th. Kids forum? Sure, why not, although it's cool if everyone helps kids out and doesn't cop attitude w/ kids in the regular forums. There's hardly a pastime I had that wasn't shrinking in participants because the "grown ups" were making it hard to for kids to get in. When I let people at Vans try my board, and I'm not even talking little kids, I mean like college age kids, it's always a revelation. Most have never been on anything that rolls and turns. And with slalom, you always "make the trick" to some degree. I was at the park the other night, and I watched a guy not make ONE SINGLE THING for like an hour. I mean, I understand the paradigm for modern skating a little bit, but in the whole park theres like 5 people flowing at all, and 45 people doing the "pushpushpush-ollie-to-step-on-bottom-of-board" over and over and over. when I try new stuff (new stuff I haven't done for 15 yrs) I bail, but at least I skate a enough between bailing so it's fun...Is it "Extreme" enough for kids today to dig going between cones? The whole concept of pumping is pretty subtle, and todays youth culture is not big on subtle. Remember, the soundtrack of the heyday of slalom was like Pablo Cruise and Player, versus todays skate culture's choice of Mudvayne, System of a Down, and Slipknot. It'd be nice, but I don't know if the kids are going to "get it" unless parents and mentors make the effort to present it in a way kids will dig. Which gets us back to slalomcross or whtever you want to call it...

Well it looks like Arab, came through again.
How can people roast a guy that is try'n to get kids into slalom? I am blown away, how people that don't like Arab. How can people sit here and tell the guy to leave the sport, when I, as well as anyone that knows the truth about the man, know how his heart is completly in the sport. He does alot more for kids then have kid's day on his forum too. To the none email leaving punks step up or shut up, cause I know if you won't leave your email or a name, then you sure as hell, won't approach me or him and speak your mind. And it's not even some, I'll beat you up, tough guy thing, I hate violence. It's just that you are on the outside look'n in. Go ride by yourself, format your hard drive, and die...
Unlike the kids, I can't keep my mouth shut on a kook, that speaks out from behind a keyboard. I guess I could learn something from them huh?
By the way, good job kids, I'm in it for you guy's and gal's too............

go ahead dude, sit there and submit abuse ratings....
ps Hackett was yelling in his post, think he doesn't know what cap locks mean...............
and one more thing, I'm not some Arab ass kisser, actually I don't always agree with him, but I'm an American who believes in freedom of speech. That is until you bash fellow sk8ers and try to keep another down.
