Being against the war does not equate to being against the soldiers.
Sadam is a clever bloke though, I love the way that, according to the pro war media, he's both a significant threat to the security of the free world while at the same time, he's going to lose the war in a few hours. The american lack of ability to spot irony is probably the biggest political force on the planet. Another great example: A news item about an oversized Iraqi remote control plane that just might be able to have a bomb strapped to it and flown 90 miles and how it might or might not be a WMD. The next item was about the Daisycutter 2, 30% bigger bang than the Daisycutter and painted a nice shade of orange...
Another conspiracy theory, or an angle on an old one, that rang slightly true to me was the idea that Sadam IS weak, he IS going to be a pushover, troops will surrender, people will rejoice on the streets and that the real reason to attack him now is to do it before some more fundamentalist muslim group does it instead. Wishful thinking?.

WAR IS NOT HEALTHY FOR CHILDREN AND OTHER LIVING THINGS
To quote the bumper sticker. Everyone we talk to everywhere hates Bush. I mean, so many people are hating Bush I don't know how much longer he can go on. He's the closest thing to the Antichrist this country's had. Remember his dad talking about the New World Order toward the end of his reign as president?
I am sad so many people are going to be hurt because of this stupid dicatators orders. I thought this was a democracy? I recently read a quote Bush made that said " I get to decide if we're going to war or not, not you". He said this to a reporter. Once again I say, democracy? The Homeland Security squad is probably reading this email right now.....

Yeah don't know about wishing troops to die on either sides of the fence...
Don't think Jonny mean't it like it reads. He is a good guy, just don't take what he writes quite so literally although it's hard not to... I think he expressing he wished that the US didn't have such a stranglehold on the western/entire world.
He makes out like he is punk an everything but he is just an old hippy really.....
Oh Jonny you know how to get a heated conversation going eh?
Are you hankering for a equally outrageous response from your team mate John O'Shei or something?
Maybe have the "Wrong show with JonnyX" for all extremist comments that could cause offense to anyone or anything...

jonnyx, I respect your ability to speak against any actions any government takes but I do not respect your wish for many US soldiers to die.
This is the time that we all should pray for these young men and women of our (yes, british troops as well) troops to have has little casualties as possible and a safe and speedy return home.
Keep in mind that those troops are doing thier duty.
Wish all the ill you want against those that are in power to make the decision to go to war or not but please have respect for those that actually have to fight it.
Having lost my brother in Viet Nam just weeks before the US pulled out, I am very close to this issue.
Godspeed to all the troops on thier safe trip home.
Regards, Brady Mitchell

Hell fire and brimstone Arab The war issue is a deep pool to grind, My 2 cents worth is that there is defintely something deeper going on with this whole Saddam business... I just don't believe that it is a clear cut as our media is portraying it. i.e He is the Mad tyrannical dude who wants to wipe out the western world.(He probably does though!)
Although Saddam is by no means a great guy or anything I think it runs a lot deeper into the whole economics of the our countries/world and more so the whole OIL thing must have some swing on the situation.
Excuse me for being under educated on these issues and trying to comment on them but I would put a bet on the fact that we are not being fed the complete picture in anyway shape or form by the media and our respective governments.
I could imagine that large military hardware manufactuers who have developed all these great new gadgets to kill people with (all Government funded). have been producing m80's and what not since the last conflict + have very full storerooms of this great new stuff .. planes, guns, mind reading cloned troops etc That just need to be combat proven as they are worthless without that stamp of approval on them... I mean we wouldn't be able to sell them to Iraq in 5 years time if they have not been road tested...
God I sound like a conspiracy theorist .....
For all the good in the world It seems futile to protest for or against this conflict as whats gonna happen is gonna happen and has been in on the cards for years now. I just hope that Mr Hussain really is mad and our countries are justified for doing what they are doing. I hope we are not doing exactly what he wants us to do so he can unlease his master plan whatever that may be. But I reckon that It is not just gonna be a localised war in the middle east I could see some situations occuring globally be it chemical attacks or planes flying into buildings. I hope not.
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't we sell all Saddams Hardware to him in the first place? Just seems like giving Matches to a pyromaniac or is it give him enough rope to hang himself???
I hope I get my point across I know what I am trying to say but cannot portray it exactly in words
As John Lennon once said......Kill em All and let god sort em out .... Or was that Ted Nugent.....Could have been Metallica actually... Hell I Confuse my self...
The Price of Kalasnikov rifles went from $20 to $500 in one day in Baghdad this week...
Anyone know any Skaters over there? We should show them some support if there are any wheeled comrades in the strike zone...

Helmets arent a very popular thing within the Street community, How ofton do you see a kid wearing a helmet on a rail? I think the magezines play a roll in the Anti Helmet debate.
Companies dont want to get caught with photos of thier riders with a helmet while riding street, Verts a different story, but how much Vert exposure do you even see knowadays in the mainstream mags.
Thanx to Mags Like Juice and CW that just print good skateboarding, regardless if skater is wearing pads or not!
My boy Nathan has been featured in Deathbox Ads along with the hardest of hardcore, all wearing Lids! But then again Deathbox aint no flippy company, He has also been featured in Numerous Vans ads and commercials, Vans requires the Kids team to wear helmets at any Vans event the kids are attending and encourages them to wear their helmets at all times, Thats a good thing!
Its just a shame that if your a street skater you probably aint gonna get a photo in a mag if you got the lid on.
BIG DEAL!
I encourage everybody to wear a helmet, sometimes I dont, sometimes I do, Not a very good sales pitch, I know! But Kids should always wear them.

Five hot blondes were sitting around at Hooters chatting "51 days, 51 days. It only took 51 days!" The bartender walked over and asked what was with the 51 days thing. "Well, you see," the hottest blonde said, "we just finished a jigsaw puzzle! It said 3 to 4 years, but we did it in just 51 days!"

That does upset me that skate companies would tell their skaters not to wear helmets, especially kids. I always wear my knee pads, especially since my accident. I don't always wear my helmet when just skating around the neighborhood, but I always wear it when I set a serious slalom course, as well as in the park. I'm starting to get into flatland freestyle, and I pad up fully for that. Serious injuries suck, trust me, especially ones that could have been prevented by pads or a helmet.

Arab, I was a little shocked to see sasha say that sponsors tell kid pros to not wear helmets?
This seems like a big issue to me. B-I-G.
So she has to choose between reasonable protection and her career?
A kid like your son nathan might have to make the same choice or you have to do it for him?
This seems like an injustice worth fighting? I understand that if one's livelihood comes from skateboarding, maybe this issue isn't worth fighting because every professional athelete faces choices about sacrificing flesh for money.
But as a regular joe, not part of the industry, or even a skateboarding insider, but father of two young and active boys, I think it sucks.
Why isn't there a maker-of-helmets and skate-parents and pros-that-want-to-wear-gear group to oppose the greedy forces of evil in the industry? If there was one, I would donate some money to it.

Judi-Nathans contest got rained out, they have resheduled the weekend of Elsinore, He has to decide if he wants to race slalom, or compete in Street, tough decision for an 8 yr old!, So with the contest rain out I took him to do some slalom today with the SSS boys, Rick Howell brought young Henry J along. Nathan took 2 gnarly falls today, worse thing was slamming on his already bruised hip. Since skating again after his broken collar bone he is really timid, Where the contest is there are no different times for Bikers or Skateboarders, Trying to practice this week was hellish, about every 10 minutes a biker would take out a skater. We all got a good laugh when 2 bikers collided. These guys just dont get it!
Sasha-When practicing for Kona, you can practice high speed low carves on the wall, the first 3-4 cones arnt they high on the bank, they just come real fast, after that its up the big bank accross to the other side, then you come over and down the hip and into another wall, if you can get thru that the last 3-4 cones are easy.

I rode Revere by myself at dusk earlier today. There were a couple of local new schoolers skating without helmuts. I, myself rode pools without one for years, but not any more. Once you've seen a guy smack his head and do the funky chicken on the floor of the pool you never forget it. If you have kids make them wear a helmut. If you're an adult I don't give a damn what you do. It's your head. I wear a fly-away. It's nearly ten o'clock. I think I'll roll a fat one and meet up with Olson at the VFW for a highball, and some midnight cones. Tomorrow is Tuesday. I can sleep.

Went there this morning, but it was raining. We left late cause it looked like a rain out. Got to vans at 11:45. Must have just missed you Judi.I'm sad, I would have loved to see you skate :) Arab-thanks for the banked slalom advice. I will start to do that at the Santa Rosa park. That is the best one around for pumping and carving. I will email you the pics, but I have to send the whole file. I sent some to Judi too. I wish I could send less, but my computer won't let me. It will take a while to load. Sorry.
Checked out the Redwood City park today. It is pretty different all right. The photos on the Thasher site doesn't really do it justice. The bowls are big with coping and a roll in. There are ledges of several different heights spread throughout. There is also a beginners bowl and a big flat cement area for practicing flip tricks. It's in a nice park too. Directions are on thrashermagazine.com
Today I was thinking how much I appreciate the people I've met through skateboarding. They have really become my family and I feel a bond with them. It's cool to know so many wonderful people. If anyone who knows me reads this, please know that I appreciate you and am glad our paths have crossed. Peace, Sasha

(Not going to Elsinore by the way) Sasha, We got rained out this morning and so we went to the Van's park instead. Been way to long since I've skated vert but I had fun on the ramps and the washboard. That old photo on the Indy site inspired me to pull out the park deck once again. See you soon. I'll mail you the helmet.

Sasha-Yer not so little! but still a kid! you just act and skate like a grown up, You got a huge compliment from a friend today who said you are so eloquant in your posts.
Maybe someday Nathan will compete at Slam City!
Stoked you are going to Kona! Start practicing by trying to pump yer slalom board around a skatepark, Work on tucking and pumping frontside and backside on the banks, see if you can just fly around the park carving everything in site. Kona is fast!!! and gnarly, its all about turning, If you got Tony Hawk 4, there is a great similated Kona Bank slalom on it, at least it will give you an Idea of what its like?
I got yer Moms Email and just realized I sent it to another file and forgot about it!
I'll respond tommorow, OOPS tell her I'm Sorry!!
yeah send me the pics! If ya like I'll post one here so all those that see and read your post will get an idea of who you are!

Even though you say this is for us on the weekends, I would really like to hear more of your comments on the things we say on this forum. I always enjoy hearing your point of view Arab. Plus you are always super encouraging toward all of us little ones :)
As far as Slam goes... Yessiree. This will be my third year and I wouldn't miss it. I think it's the best skateboard contest there is. The course is always great, we get to sit on the ramps or seats right by the course to watch everyone else, all the free food you could possibly want, hanging with your friends, skating the Vancouver parks, what more could one ask for? Besides a free hotel room that is:)
I'm actually booked almost every weekend from Tomorrow to the end of October. It going to be a long but fun year for me. Did you know I have to go to Kona that same weekend as the slalom contests for a world cup contest anyway, so I signed up to do them. I haven't done banked slalom yet, but it looks so fun. Glad you will be there so I have someone to hang with. Is Nathan gonna go? Did you see the pics of him and Devon in the latest Juice?
Mom sent you an email a few days ago. She's wondering if you ever got it. Also, I have some great pics to share with you from this week. If I send them to the Groff3 email address, will you get them? Tell Nathan I said skate hard this weekend!!

Josh Byrd, where are you? did you guys try the lights out for your race yet?
Dylan and Lauren whats happening, did you guys get to ride Paso Robles? How was it? Is Nathan gonna have to tighten his bearings down for it?
Sasha-Are you going to Slam City this year? What about Elsinore?
Nathan has a contest Sunday, He has put on 15 pounds in 4 months since he broke his collar bone and didnt skate at all, Practiced for the contest the otherday, he use to beable to skate from morning til night without stopping, now its 1/2 hour of skating and he's ready to stop.
