So typical Huge and LOOney...I suppose you want to run the hundred yard dash too or maybe see who can put on a timing belt faster. or better yet see who can make a leather holster the quickest. You guys really have to stop the hale mary guesses as to who is who because we are all laughing at how wrong you are...Anyways, I really am going to rise above the armature challenges and stick to competing against the safe and sane...PROFESSIONALS. Do you really think I would oblige Team Jenny Craig by accepting that? I'm sure you knew the answer before you asked it. That's why you asked it foolio.

In a "true" 35+ mph slalom (measured with a gps) I would put my money on Chaput... The Rogers Brothers, Connor, Jennings, Waterhouse, Kludy would all be a huge threat as would ANY of the Speedboarders!
Sherm/Billy... show up and let your skating do your talking... back away from the keyboard... pull out your longboards and start practicing... because I will beat you both down the SJC dump road in "true" high speed cone running fashion... you might as well agree to race me now, because this is a CHALLENGE!! So I guess what your saying Sherman is that YOU would not be interested in attending a Hamm Slam 2 slalom race that had 25 cones on the bottom 2/3 of the hill, because why?
Oh yeah... because Hickey did something like that almost 30 years ago?
And being beat by Sean is not a thing to be ashamed of... he's a great racer... HR

If we added curbs for grinds at either side of the track - and gave extra opints for ollying over cones - then the kids in my neighborhood might try slalom. Mostly it seems that they like to hang out and throw off a move every now and then, just like I did at their age. Slalom may be too rigorous for the street crowd. Not too difficult, just too focused on one thing. These kids are awesome skaters. If they cared to focus on slalom they would totally dominate. Maybe that's where a more hybrid format might be enticing. I for one want more banks. As for the home front with my kids, I'm starting the propoganda for slalom early. It's already a requirement that they surf, to which they have no objections. They like skateboarding too, but that street allure is pretty strong out fron on the curb...

If you think your narly GS is something of a new idea, Hickey was running corses like that along time ago. Those SSS boys Mallard and Dansie would rule! As far as what I have seen and heard about how the OC guys run GS about 30mphs big offsets -- in other words you and your bro wouldnt have a chance. Its called skills..Go back to being the toughest guys on the cheerleading squad!"GOOOO Arab!"

You still gotta get me out there skating with ya because you said you would. Don't let me down brother. Besides, I asked hugh r to back off and he did.

What's up guys..kinda gay don't you think to be posting like a married couple...oh,,maybe you are..well us skaters are very open minded and willing take anyone in as long as they linve in O.C. and skate Oust bearings...Just kidding...we are skaters not haters...and I thought since I was on stage I would let you know that Mr Hackett personally told me he was working on holding an event at Kona (Banked Slalom, Cross Country, Pool etc..)Besides having races throughout the local skateparks...Beth Layden from Red Bull also told me that she is working on getting the ramps trucked out to California for a banked slalom series...And....Jason Salfi from comet was working on a border cross event in Oakland..but I haven't heard much about that lately....don't forget to use condoms guys...be responsible...

answer: Hell, yeah! Anything that spurs more interest in the masses has GOT to be better than schmakin'wangkeys on this or any other forum. Add speed and some banks to any event to put in a twist. Courses could be set other places, too, garnering even more local interest than doing everything in just Cali or DC.
Hard-cores and purists may poopoo the idea as blasphemy, but in the end, their sport will benefit, and prosper because of it. Once the DT'ers hit the freestyle scene in '75, the whole world changed because different skating disciplines collided. Look how many pool/vert guys are kickina$$ on FCR, and likewise, some of the dudes I thought of as wigglers only threw it back in my face by rippin' coping and air. Hacket killed in NM. Do the Bear and be better for it.

Arab,
Last year we saw Red Bull Brooklyn, two Surfrider banked slalom races put on by LBK, and Kona banked slalom. While Kona's banked slalom is now a special feature in Tony Hawk 4, I've been told they are not running it this year. Anybody know the skinny on that one.
I think for a true measure of these events attracting new riders, DC would make a good microcosm. I've seen first hand the amount of local interest at one of these things. All kinds of people on a gambit of boards. I'd like to know if any of these people have crossed over to more traditional riding.
Well? Brian P, Ohm, Vlad, Wes, can you guys comment? Has banked slalom yeilded new park n ride racers?

I certainly would like to see some more burly events like the Bear and Deathbox. I think the old school slalom is cool but its time for a facelift (more speed more challenge). I believe that those types of events should be the future and they will bring new faces.

Huge,,,I was at the Sandia New Mexico Event..Where were you? Besides that..I was at the West LA Downhill..You there? I didn't bother looking behind me...Anyways...Lets chat about how weak FCR is and how they won't commit to a schedule until they get sponsorship money. And how Jack's race is getting more push than the Elsinore race...I put my money on Hackett's (ASR) and expect a big event at Kona this year.. or at an SD park somewhere near him...

What Would Jesus Do? He would Never have stooped down to this perverse level of hatred. Jesus would have prayed for his transgressors-like we should all do for each other. We are not each others' enemies-I bet we all have a whole lot more in common than any of us would like to believe. We should all be on the same team. There is alot of evil stuff happening around this world right now and we should not give in to these evil forces that continually prod us on.....
Let's try to clean things up a bit so we can all have this forumn to rap with each other as A R A B wished in the first place. Take care brothers.

arab, pool riders do slalom already, they just don't know it. they go over the deathbox, over the stairs, under or over the light, air the ladder, etc. I don't think this is lost on a guy like hackett.
I am wishing there were some painted-on "obstacles" at the van's pool or something like that although I admit that just reproducing a decent line is hard enough for me.
so I think that in general, there could be a move to skating that involves obstacles of various types. I would like to see some big oregon parks with cones on them and see if brian patch can keep his crown. it would be a great way to showcase speed and power.

Yes I do believe slalom is heading in a different Hamm style direction,it offers a different variety to all skaters.the high speed humongous slalom although more dangerous I believe could open the sport to a crossover maybe giving speed boarders an advantage over 30 mph.
