The Powell Wheels will take a long time to break in. I've had two sets of them and it usually takes about a week of hard riding before they feel good. But after that they are a smooth slide and good for standups and cliff slides.

they slide super smooth usually. have you worn them in? if the super shiny layer that is on the surface when they are new is still there that may be the problem just do some more slides.

Has anyone tried sliding the white powell bombers (85a)? I was really disapointed, when you slide them they vibrate so much that the board bounces. They are pretty much unusuable for sliding!
I dont have risers but I dont know that it will make a massive difference

hard duros for sliding

The harder duro's help a lot despite the fact you can slide with anything. I think sliding with softies isn't worth the time because it is difficult to get close to the same result and you ruin your wheels in no time. I like larger mm wheels and I have found the Gravity Super G's 73mm/85a (or 90a) to be nice sliding on anything but Kryptonics are a personal preferance. Sliding with anything is such a sweetness.
Skate for fun, slide for joy.

i can slide any wheel I've found. right now I'm on abec 11 gumballs 75a. and when I carve hard enough they slide like crazy. and I don't even need to put my hands down anymore (coleman). i think stance is very important.

I just wanted to post and say that i am really loven the stuff you are doing. Watching those videos gave me all kinds of new ideas and s#@! i have already stolen some of your tricks. I live in a state where longboarding isnt really that popular and it always gets me excited to skate when i see peopleing rocking it like you all do. Keep it up i cant wait to the next edition.

Does anyone know if there is a good type of glue-on rubber that is good for braking and lasts long but still allows you to feel the board?

I should mention that just before this photo was taken, I got my index finger caught in the belt sander (ouch!), leaving the blood stain you see in front of the truck hanger. A dust mask is a good idea.

I can't stand even skating on anything harder than 90A on the street, so if they slide well or not is moot. I find that the flashbacks slide well at 88A. If you don't like the square edges, sand them off ! This set took only 20 minutes with 80 grit:

I have 92a, fastest 'hard' wheels I have tried. I don't have problem sliding them. BTW, I typically slide two hands down, taking a lot of weight of the wheels.

Chief, don't bother with flashbacks, even the harder ones are too soft, besides the footprint on them makes them harder to slide out and a nightmare getting them to return from a coleman slide. try old skool t bones 97a if poss, if not 95's are good too or big bulldogs or death box wheels, they may flatspot but they slide like butter! same goes for no skools 65mm upto a 94a durometor. Sliding on flashbacks aint fun Dom

sliding clinic...?

Dear Cliff,
I just wondered whether you'd be running any sort of sliding clinic whilst you were over in cornwall. I missed the last one in Sheffield but met a couple of guys who went on it and were still stoked months after! -and their moves were looking very very smooth and stylish. I'm not a hugely experienced slider like the cornwall boys, (I'm still getting to grips with pendulums) but I think to participate in something like that would vastly improve my moves and my skating... and be a lot of fun!

This is a poem I wrote a while back. It reminds me of why I love to skate with riders from everywhere.
I want to skate. I want to share the experience. I do skate by myself, but something is missing. It is you, the others that I so much want to share the joy with. I want to skate with riders of all religions, of all nationalities, of any age and either sex. I want to skate with Freestylers, Slalom skaters, Downhillers, Streetstyle, Buttboarders, Luge riders and Vert skaters. I want to skate. I want to listen to the stories. I want to share the history. I want to witness the creativity of skaters from here and there. I want to give a skateboard to a child who can't afford one for themself. I want to see the smile of accomplishment when another skater learns a new move or runs a better time. I want to skate. I want to thank the skaters that share their time skating with me and for the happiness we feel. I want to skate.
Cliff Coleman
I'm hoping to see you guys again in September during the last half of the month in Cornwall. I'm working on the details now. I'll stay in touch.
