p-tex is uhmwpe. The more skid resistant grades would be that way for one of two reasons: higher molecular weight, or better density / forming technique. Since that stuff does not melt, it is ram formed by stuffing it through a die at something like 60,000 psi, which makes the powder sinter together. Different pressures and machines may change the porosity to affect wax retention, etc. Then additive can be used such as graphite to eliminate static, lubricants, etc. Companies usually won't tell you what is really in there and I assume that is true with p-tex. I have heard that the ultimate wear resistance is a recycled uhmw grade from PolyHi Solidur, that is so good because being recycled (from their own plant fab scrap), it sees that 60,000 psi ram twice, at least. It has a cool, random multi-color look, too.

skid resistance. UHMW I guess it stands for ultra high molecular weight plastic? It could be that the application for formula one cars demads high temperature performance. In regards to p-tex there are different hardnesses of p-tex. for instance you can buy p-tex 500,700,1000, electra, 1500, 2000 etc. Madd Snowboards at one time used 5000 and I can tell you PERSONALLY from trying to grind that base down with a $165,000 snowboarding tuning machine- that stuff is highly resitant to abrasion- certainly many many many times the stregth of p-tex 500 and it really resists scuffing and gouging.

I should mention that the lead driver is a 4'11" woman who weighs 86 pounds...lying prone position...which may have something to do with the small radar signature. Us fat guys feet first are no problem, my EEEE feet alone would pick up, no doubt.

Got to test this unit out thoroughly. Bushnell Speedster radar gun. Worked perfectly for cars, people walking and running, some random bikers who went by, and everyone else's skatecars except for my own. Thought it was an abberation but it happened 5 times in a row. But skaters and lugers appear to be no problem, I think the aero design of the skatecar (and very small frontal area) gave little to lock on to. The radar MPH results agreed extremely well with stopwatch times, so accuracy appears to be good. May install 3M reflective tape on the skatecars in the front to make a better reflection. I will be bringing this unit up to GSI races in NH so we'll see how well it works for luge, for sure.

Yes the supaflex riders (I'm one of them) use those Eloura gloves but we added extra pads on, You'll be surprised but for Xtrem sliding session, some of us use Plexiglass pads!!! They have to change the pads each 2 days, but they slide like nobody else.

Oh and by switch handed I meant changing from your front to your back hand when you are coming out of a pendulum. First time I saw one was a guy I was trying to teach doing it on accident. Gives it kind of a cool symetrical feeling.

Who could forget the beamer vs boarder collision. Did that guy have broken ribs? I was thinking to make the pads rounded off both on the corners and the egde because they caught the bricks on Lombard and kept ripping off. Although that street is so nice for FB powslides- take the left turn on heels with your front hand down the break into a pendulum for a switch ride around the righthand and repeat 7 or 8 times. fun

oh yea HC, i remember that session....good burritos..:-)
as for TAP plastics, i went there, they did'nt have any good stuff, just regular polyethelene, it got ate up on one run down old tunnel...what i did find at TAP is some nice thin clear plastic that makes a good faceshield on my full-face, deflects those little rocks, and makes my helmet more aero.

What up everybody its your favorite 6 wheeler here.
HC, I need some new pads I can almost see through mine. Some of the other FB guys want good gloves so if you want to make a few bucks....I've been throwing real long pendulums at 35, doing 360 powerslides, switch handed pendulums, and continuous powerslides all the way down the lombard st bricks. We've also had the help of a pro film guy to get some nice shots. WHo's been riding? Snowboard season is almost over, someone call or email me if you're setting up a ride for SJ, SF, Berkeley or whatever.

what i worry about is people trying to learn sliding on these gloves, everyone i know that slides use some kind of hard plastic puck, either we are all wrong or euloura is making crappy glove, (from the supaflex guys too, what were they thinking?)
i doubt they were wearing those gloves in their slide videos.

This system seems like it would me more convient then a police type radar gun, i hope its accurate though. thanks

david, you answered your own question about the velcro, use industrial strength. As i said, i like velcro cuz i can move the pads around for adjustment, and even change to smaller pucks for slalom. maybe the finger pieces can be bolt on, if the velcro still won't hold. (sergio yuppie's gloves use two pucks for the finger area for even more finger dexterity.)
goad, don't get so uptight,
the plastic on the euloura gloves i tried slid like crap, (actually grabby)
and the glove material made my hand all sweaty. (i like canvas backing for breathebility)
