Much to the horror and disbelief of the locals, not to mention automobile pilots, this hill rules!!!!!!! On my second run(night), I ran out at over 20, and had my prized Powell ran over and destroyed. Just south of Eureka,CA. Right off of highway 101.

Traverse City area

So you say the midwest if flat!? The secret is revealed...
Head up North to the Traverse City area. Plenty of hills with various grades
& distances. Choose your "wave" wisely and you'll see little, but most often,
no traffic. Residential development in some areas means nice, fresh ashphalt
with no driveways. Try surfing the Great Lakes, it'll keep ya' grinnin'!

Cal Ida road is a 5 mile logging road next to the
Indian Valley Outpost. It is paved and smooth 95%
and is a great place for smooth easy, carving downhill.
Stop by and see Bill and Shari at the Outpost and
toast a cold one for me. There is hardly any traffic
(a car per hour is about right) It is beautiful also.
My secret gift to you.

Glory Hole

Just thought you all would like to know that I just posted a story about a spot called Glory Hole on Nose Wheelie. Actually, it's more than just a spot, it's a great story. Kind of reminds you why we got involved with skateboarding to begin with. Check it out at:

Central Florida
On 5/22/1998 Jason Jesse wrote in from ()

There is a very straight neighborhood off of S. Courtney
in Merritt Island. Lots of mellow slopes and curves. Look
for Crooked Mile or Hilltop, about 2 miles south of 520. There
is also a few larger hills in Hilltop, in Cocoa just north of
528 on US1. Look for the Amoco station at the bottom. I've
had lots of problems with the pigs though, so skate safe. It
is very hard to find good slopes in the central Florida, if anybody
knows of anymore, please hook me up.Aloha friends.

The Buena Vista Run
On 4/24/1998 Cliff Coleman wrote in from ()

The Buena Vista run is the most famous skate run in the Berkeley hills. It begins at the intersection of Senior road and Grizzly Peak Blvd. It is one and three quarter miles in length and has fifteen turns that are a minimum of 90 degrees. We don't count the turns if they are less than 90 degrees. The surface of the road was repaved about two years ago and is great. I've been skating this run for 37+ years and love it!
At the top there is a view of the San Francisco Bay, three bridges, four islands, San Francisco's skyline and Marin County including Mt. Tam.
The run descends like this, down Senior, left on Fairlawn, right on Olympus, left on Avenida, right on Campus, left on Del Mar, up the dip in the road about 75 yards, continue down Del Mar, then right on Buena Vista, left on La Loma, right on Cedar, left on Euclid and then ends at Euclid and Hearst. On the south side of Hearst, slightly west of Euclid is the bus stop to catch either the #8 or the #65 bus back to the top at Senior and Grizzly.
The traffic varies depending on the time of day. We use a safety method regading traffic. Here is a discription. When approaching any blind corners or intersections the first skater down slides to a stop at the blind corner where he/she can site up and down both directions clearly. For our signals, we don't use verbal signals. The word GO can be easily confused with NO! Instead the skater signaling puts up one or two hands above the head to indicate halt if there is oncoming traffic. If it is clear, the skater signaling rotates his/her arm in a windmill fashion to signal that the road is clear.
For those that wish a tour of the many skate runs in the Berkeley hills, e-mail Cliff at, "sk8fast@thegrid.net".

Berkeley Hills, East side of the SF Bay Area
On 4/16/1998 Cliff Coleman wrote in from ()

Almost all of the roads in Berkeley were repaved about one to two years ago! There are countless roads to chose from . These would have to be rated as difficult but certainly not impossible. Once you master the sliding techniques any road is possible as long as the surface is reasonable. For any of you who have the techniques down, come and join me and my friends for a session.
