r. mendino, thanks for the update on Stone Edge. I also heard rumor that some guys were trying to purchase part of the lot with the 9 Bowl. As I posted before, I hope this is not a sign of another skateboard recession.
To the rest of the skateboard community: Keep an eye out on your skateboard locations because if you don’t know one else will. Case in point, Landsdowne Skateboard Park in Baltimore, MD. That park is in jeopardy and the local skateboard community could give a damn. That’s because the Charmcity Skate Shop park is the hot “spot”. The response of the locals are, “we don’t care about Landsdowne because we have Charmcity”. Narrow minded thinking has just about killed skateboarding in the past and it will again.
Damn, I’m going to miss Stone Edge….

...first and foremost this is a "slopestyle" location - no leathers required - and no need to cross state lines to get here - but if you live in North Jersey and want a park setting with not much traffic and a gentle 1/4 mile slope with smmooth black top - for practicing 180 slides, wheelies, and controlled Colemans - 5 minutes from the Garden State Parkway and 7 minutes the nearest Starbucks for that good 3 dollar coffee after a brisk February session - its the place.....

I don’t know if this is the right forum to post my question but here goes. I’ve been riding for almost a year now and feel comfortable enough that I’d like to try riding at a skate park. The problem is I feel pretty intimidated because of my age (I’ll be 53 in March). Does anyone have any info on what is considered proper ‘park etiquette’? I don’t want to get in anyone’s way while I’m learning the do’s and don’ts of riding at a park.

Yesterday i was riding down in local boat ramp carpark and found out my sliding improved instantly, doing no handers with full control.Had i been blessed by the slide god overnite i thought, nup it was from build up of oil and general crap around the boat ramp which made it a perfect slide zone.I havent been back yet as huey has opened up the sky so i cant skate there today but slightly greasy, crudy boat ramps are a little slide paradise.

Here is the Final 3D design layout for our county skate/blade/bike park. Ground breaking this spring after the construction bids come in. This park will be 15,000 sq ft of concrete designed by our committee and the famous Wally Holiday. We are crossing or fingers he supervises the surface work.
Check it out and send me constructive comments. We dont get out to many parks to compare on the east coast and we dont wnat any mistakes.

Roxbury kicked my ass. and my shoulder. and my elbow. and both my knees. i think i could go back and take it though. can't really give directions because i was just visiting a buddy at the time. anyways, it curves right, gets hecka steep, goes through a small intersection, drops again and levels out. those of you in the area know what i'm talkin' about. my buddy's apartment was right nearby as it is in a sorta residential area. i know this ain't alot of info but i just thought i'd tell ya about the one that got away. i live near vancouver BC so if anyone know some areas around here lemme know.

Can't help ya out but i'm surpized that in Cali a skater wouldn't have anyone to ride with,A northern jersey skater like me, would figure you couldn't skate a block without running into or over another skater, and after a couple of blocks of pushing your way through a sea of boardflippers on a downhill a carving old surfer dude would be cruiz'n along and up for a hill skat'n session.....Yeah sometimes i just start typing when i get an idea and i figure everybody reads every page so they know it's just on the wrong page,i'm not pissed at anybody.I don't like to guess at anything and if i am guessing i'll let you know"the way i remember" ,or "i think possibly" ect ect and it seems like most religions are just guesses or theories, but people put WAY to much confidence in the validity of their particular fairytale.

I think ole HerbN just got lost. His mind is going like warp 9 all the time and that one little detail jsut slipped by him (wrong forum). I caught him at it before and it`ll probably happen again. No need to worry though, he`s always right on with what ever is going on in his brain.
Who was is it that said "It`s a fine line between genious and insanity"? In this case, I think he probably had a million thoughts running through his mind and he just slipped.
If only I had his talents ;-)

Hey Valis, whenever you get a chance head out a little bit west to Sunset & Mandeville. Yeah, that's Revere. There's also a lot of little hills in the area that not many know about & don't have 10,000 moving obstacles. You'll dig it ! If you head up the coast towards Malibu there's the entrance road to The Colony. Don't know what shape it's in these days, but always worth a scout. You may also want to check out the roads of upper Kenter (Bundy turns to Kenter north of Sunset). When we used to skate Kenter we would cruise these every now & then. One last place is slightly north of Malibu on PCH & that's some of the back roads near Pepperdine. As w/ just about any spot, use stealth, caution & avoid cars. Best of luck & let me know what's happening down there. Hope to see you sometime @ Revere /;~)henry

ucla has some major, major hills for bombing, not to mention about 50 HUGE parking gargages ranging from gentle slopes to sucicidal. The biggest scariest hill is behind Royce Hall going down to the loading dock. It took me a long time to get up the balls to pull that one off, but it is a serious thrill ride. I would recommend, however, that you wait until after 6:00 during the school year or you will have about 10,000 moving obstacles/targets during the day which can blow your carving - I perfer to go in the middle of the night.

Thanx much David. I was starting to get a little concerned about our good friend Herbn. I'll check it out, but I'll probably still be confused. My mom (Rest In Peace) always used to say I was either genius or a very mixed up individual. A genius I'm not so... ?:~)henry

God,all that talk about god.Religion,a supreme being,an afterlife, that last one is probabely thee most attractive thing religion has to offer to most people, whether they admit it or not, something better,or at least believing that ANYTHING happens after you and your loved ones die. All the rules in religion,"no cloning","no stem cell research","women must be vailed","can't be trying to do gods work",that's wrong. I think ANYTHING science is capable of, should be ok,well maybe the extremely destructive stuff has to be handled carefully(duh),we can't by definition do gods work,if we could ,then "god" is just a really smart being with a tremendous knowlege(sp?) of phyics, chemistry, ect ect.Maybe he is.Given infinite, truely unlimited, infinite amount of time and our current rate of advancement, how long can it be before we pick out a really empty area of the universe and "create" a cataclysmic, matter creating event ,something that can't even be put into words. Then we sit back for a couple of billion years and see what happens. We might be that experiment,it could be a repeating cycle that just happens, with infinite time and infinite space the beginning, middle or end are just unfindable. Religion has some good aspects, there are some rules that are necessary.Everybody knows what people don't want to happen to them ,don't rob, steal,no violence, that's really about it.Intolerant,organized/unorganized religion has been responcible for more violence, death and destruction, than anything else,so obviously the extent that it controls some people is to great, someone thinks their religion is the right one and is gonna teach everybody else the truths that they are so convinced lead to salvation........The supreme being is definitely a really great skater:)
