Evan Nice thing about Menlo is its close to lots of great areas. Try around and behind Stanford U. nice pavement small hills, Page Mill Rd. looks reall good, I havent tried it yet but it looks long wide and has a few differant grades. Redwood city has some nice runs in the hills off Alameda. Go early less cars.

Went to Purple Skunk in SF this weekend and was so psyched by the service that I bought a longboard. The cooler thing was that my girlfriend, who had just one day before been asking me not to start skateboarding, took one ride on a demo board and said, we have to get one! So, now, of course, we'll have to get another so that we can both ride. That said, we know we'll like carving on streets better than doing tricks at parks. Where can we go? I'm hoping someone has the lowdown on good quiet times and streets in the Redwood City to Mountain View swath or south Bay in general. Menlo Park is pretty damn flat. Thanks!

Goleta, Santa Barbara & Isla Vista, the loss of a legendary spot

It is w/ regret & sorrow that I'm forced to report the loss of the legendary spot in Goleta known as The Flyaway. The county government, in an effort to protect youth from itself, has rendered The Flyaway unrideable by smattering it w/ concrete turds. I just personally witnessed the damage 1 hour ago & it would be a severe understatement to say that I'm heartbroken. This spot has been skated by legends of old & new & everyone else in between since the 1970's. But now it's gone, the same route as other local spots such as Washington School on the Mesa, The Bayou ditch in Goleta & The Fly Bowl in Painted Cave. So many great stories came from those walls & transition as well as video footage & pictures. It wasn't the best spot, but it had a quality that attracted even the most hardcore skater to give it a shot. Lots of fun was had in many sessions. Now it's over, all because the great overseer known as county government, in conjunction w/ some local residents bent on stiffling youth, has decided that it was unsafe to have fun. I can't lay blame on these 2 forces alone. Idiot taggers & inconsiderate jackasses pretending to be skaters ruined it for all of us as well w/ their stupid human tricks. So now the time comes to get over it & move on. The Flyaway; 1975 (?) - 2002. Rest In Peace :-(henry

It seems that Seward Park didn't seem to turn out as such a hot prospect -a lot more cracks in the walk than anticipated and the layout wasn't so hot either.
There's another flat but perfect cyber spot at the Recreation exit at Addison going north on Lake Shore Drive. Twenty empty tennis courts (4 sets of 5 side-byside) ten of them w/o nets for the moment and narry a racket to be heard.

Anyone in the Quincy/Chico/Oroville/Almanor area into speed & road descents? Some really good stuff around Truckee but I'd like to branch out, maybe Hwy 70 or Hwy 32. Shuttle laps are fun, and walking isn't bad either. If interested, please reply!

I Near Kona and I love skating there and the snake is my favorite thing to skate but it is hard to describe the dimensions of it. But I wouldn't consider it a realy hard run to ride, you can go fast down it or go slow. In my openion the faster the better. At the top there is a large roll in ramp you can go down to add speed to the ride, which makes it a little more chalenging.

The Rattler is a fat run about 3 miles long with a killer drop at the end. The street name is called Topoftheworld St. in the mountain park area. Skateboarding around here is mostly for high schoolers but me and my friends run into some old folk. Great runs in Portland area include Greentree Right, Stafford/Mcvey, Birgis Road, Overlook Drive, and in Wilsonville there is a killer 4 mile run that has great pavement. I've never been anywhere in the West Hills but I heard its dank.

The snow is melting fast up here, and the street cleaners are out everyday. Vail Pass won't be ready for a month maybe after mud season. The neighborhood roads below 8000ft are coming together still some chards of rock and sodium chloride...very slippery! I went out to hiway 131 near State Bridge about a week ago. The road is clear but the temp of the pavement keeps your grip down, cold road cold urathane cold leathers, should be just around the corner to come up here and Next time I shoot to denver Id like to se your hills.

Found two spots in two consecutive days! Chrystal Lake, by Carl's hospital has a big drop. The huge parking garage towards south campus doesn't have any cars in the top two levels. Another smaller hill is between IMPE and the football firled. This is Illinois we are talking about! Not that I've seen anyone else skating here...

I have been looking to get some people together to have a race or to have everyone just skate together. It is me and about 6 of my other friends who all have longboards. We have some great hills here but we can never seem to find any groups that skate near us. So if anyone is interested to get together to start something and you are in the Denver area (Around Castel Rock or The DTC or Downtown) let me know.

Hello all, This is a nice little spot that is near the intersection of Rt. 53, and Warrenville Rd. (warrenville rd is just south of I-88). Directions; From the intersection of Rt. 53, and Warrenville rd.; travel east on Warrenville for two stop lights, and hang a right at the second one which should be Arboretum lakes office complex. Drive to the back of it (as south as you can) and whala! there is the hill. We usually hang out on the eastern side of the hill. I found the below map on Yahoo. Sorry, I don't know how to make it into a cool little link. hope to see ya there!

Oh yeah, and the surface is nice asphault, one very light winter on it since its been last sealed. Moderate hill, but can definetely pick up some speed toward the bottem, what can I say? this is chicagoland, and an open hill come the weekend. Feel free to email me-
DISCLAIMER; to the best of my knowledge this is not trespassing, I have never been hassled here, and often catch "smiles and waves" from the few people passing through the adjoining parking garage.

Hi Rob. I was wondering where the heck you disappeared to ! Funny you should mention Revere because I just got back from there last night. FUN ! So San Marcos. Well, I don't recall a bank there. All we ever did there was rails & stairs. However, there is an elementary school right off of the 101 on Las Positas right behind Earl Warren that has a little bank like the one you described. I think that's either Adam's School or Lincoln School. If you get off the 101, go towards the mountains & look to your left. It's the only school on the block. The little bank is in the back playground. I should warn you, there's also a bank to wall ride setup as well. As for ditches, there's always The Flyaway on Queen Ann & Kellog in Goleta. That one depends on whether or not it's dry. We haven't had much rain this season so... Glad to hear winter quarter is over. Our motto @ UCSB has always been "WINTER QUARTER SUCKS !" & it holds true to this day. get in touch soon & we'll skate /;~)henry

Hey Henry -- have you ever been skating at San Marcos high? I hear there is a really smooth, cool little bank -- is it true? I saw this local skate video one night while eating at Rosarito in IV and there were a bunch of kids ripping at San Marcos and some other ditches. I'm going to hit it up after spring break with some bros, and hopefully make a trip down to Revere for some great olllld school gravityboard action. This winter I was so bogged down with school I couldn't think. But hey, Spring is in the air, time to tear it up haha.
