OK OK, if I stand on my tiptoes I can see where this is going. For the record, I kicked Dorf's ass in a WWF cage match. I'm the foul mouthed, beer drinking, cigarette smoking DHB version of Dorf. Being that I am "Height Challenged"(Surly) I would like a volunteer to put me on the start ramp at race time.

And yet again, this year's budget could not afford to get the midget bartender. Stone-cold bummer.

Mike, Thats a great idea. It could be linked directly to PayPal and for those who use that payment option it could automatically show it. The race promoter would need to have an over-ride so for those people who need to pay my mail or other means it could be noted.
I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who have contacted us to let us know of their status. Unlike previous years the amount of local cash sponsorship we were able to generate was minimal if almost non-existent, and we have been having to watch our budget more so than ever.
For racers who may be new to this sport and for those who don't pay that much attention here is short list of what the race organizers often have to pay for to put on event:
Road Closures Fees for Police Coverage (in our case that is $25 per hour per police officer for all day)
Tee Shirts for all racers
Food for the racers (if there is a banquet/awards dinner)
Timing Personel's travel, accomodations, etc.
Insurance (even through the benevolence of ASSA/Gary Fluitt it still costs)
Barrier Tape
Duct Tape
Timing system stuff
Ramp materials
Trophies (moonshine jugs ain't free boys.)
Tents
Chair/table rentals for parties
Truck rental (to haul the ramps, the timing tents, the tables, the cones, etc)
Barrier rentals or barrier tape or barriers themselves
Gas for rental truck
Rent for party location (if not donated)
Artwork for tee shirts
Stickers
Batteries for radios
Cones
Tents
pens, paper, markers
Generator rental
Gas for generator
Stage rental
Signs
Paper products..
And this is just off of the top of my head.....I don't have my budget in front of me.
Look forward to seeing you all at the Dixie Cup and again for those of you who let us know you can not make it you will be missed and we hope to see you at a DHB event in 2009!

If one was to assume that NCDSA was the Official sign-up site for their contest,Maybe the webmaster could put a PAID column on the sign-up page. Use the tool however you like.
When I signed up for Da Farm 08, I actually found out that I Pay Pal'd my $$ to the wrong e-mail address. If there was a paid column maybe I could have fixed the problem earlier rather than delivering my fee to Joe on the hill in Antrim.

Well, I'm bringing my son this year. Will that mean I'm more sedate than sedated? Have you met Nick? It's a total wild card situation. He will probably let you write on me with a sharpie, even suggest what to write, but he probably will not let you stuff me in the ice machine.

I have to post now that this is a topic. I know that we [DHB] have given a lot of time for riders to sign up and pay the fees. Even with a discount in place, then a couple of "reminders", there was still very little response. I guess the majority wanted to pay more? .... ya got me on that one.
Is it too much for race organizers to put a standard in place in regards to race registration? It's an easy "social contract" that the riders are signing ... pay to play ... no pay, no play.
In the future, and as a DHB member, I would say that a new standard for registration would help all event promoters across the board. This is a non-profit sport, and non-profits need to raise the $ first in order to provide.
I know that most people are showing up to Dixie, and will be paying at the registration table; and the Dixie Cup will still be everything it can be and has always been. Don't mistake this post as a complaint in any way. I just want my friends (all over) to be less-broke and more happy come race day.

It is human nature to be optimistic and sign up for races and then figure out later that you can't afford it, it interferes with your work schedule, or other factors.
I usually figure on 80% participation.
I think the way you can protect yourself is with early deadlines for entry fees and a policy where those who have not paid don't get to race. Or if they come in late they pay more, or don't get a T-shirt or other things that the early birds get.
I don't see any problem with requiring early sign-up and early payment.
PS: I treat the NCDSA "sign up" not as a commitment to come to the race, but rather as an "I am interested in possibly going to this race". The payment of actual fees is the commitment.

I can see who is signed up. 75 people. How many paid? How many have contacted you to say they will pay upon arrival? How many are just plain deadbeats? Post up their names and publically shame them. Do they not know they are being A Holes? I'll tell them if you don't want to. What are their names?
This s#@! drives me crazy and may well drive out of the slalom promoting world. It is my belief that The Dixie Cup and few other races (like my races the Farm and Antrim) seek to provide races with a total package. Shirts, food, parties, and even lodging. If we over estimate our numbers based upon sign up, we loose money. How long can we keep paying for our friends that don't show up?
Antrim lost $1000 dollars for the 26 no shows. And I'm talking about people that I've known for years, not some random Silverfish kid. The days are long gone where a race is 10 guys in a parking lot with a timer and a six pack. We have insurance, permits, caterers, volunteers, bands, kegs, lunches, and municipalities we are responsible too.
My name and email are up top if you think I'm wrong. I know you DHB will be busy, but I guess more than any other race promoters, I look at you guys as my brothers. Let's find 15 minutes to knock this around while I'm there. I have some ideas on how we run our races in 2009. We've all worked really hard to build this scene and without some changes, I'm done running races.
Plain done.

You bet Stevie. Point out your cousin and I'll ask her, but don't worry. I'll be a complete gentleman. Heck, I'll even chat her up a bit and lay some smooth compliments on her.
Do you think she'll go for; "Well gosh sweetie, that sure is a pretty tooth!"
